Speeding on a Rock

Messiah on the Street, Bohemia Flea Market, Five Lamps Arts Festival, Dublin Learning City Festival

Hi!!

With Easter so early this year, the gap to something else eventful (maybe Summer?) is quite big, so we will just continue our mad trip around the sun on this rock that we call Earth.

And while we are racing (Did you know that we are moving at a truly mad speed of 107,226 km/h!?), we will continue enjoying all the free events that I am telling you about week after week and we do all the other things we do in our lives?

Some of the things you do might be very repetitive, but hopefully others are exciting and inspirational and if they are not, then you should make some changes to add some new discoveries into your life. I am not necessarily talking about dramatic change, but maybe learn something new. A language? An instrument? A sport? Or something completely different? OR make some other positive (slight!?) changes that interrupt the routine.

When it comes to events, I often suggest to people to try out something completely different to what they normally do. You MIGHT discover something interesting that you had never considered/thought about. Keep open mind and stay curious and your life will never be boring! ;-)

One interesting topic to learn about could be AI (Artificial Intelligence). The first time I heard about AI was many many moons ago when I was in university. AI was interesting to study it, but it was FAR away. Now, many businesses expect that AI skills will be needed as much as Word and Excel skills are needed. Either you have it or you won’t get a job.

I will explain a LOT more about that in my next “Introduction to AI and ChatGPT” class. A free and completely non-technical overview for everyone of the good and bad sides of Artificial Intelligence. The class is 2 hours long via Zoom and will happen on a weekday in the near future (no date set yet).

If you are interested in finding out more so that you can form an informed opinion, join me at this class. To do that send a mail to AIClass AT inspiringleadershipacademy.com and I will tell you about the next class or alternatively sign up for information via joerg.ourpage.link/AICourse

Donations in April:
EUR 151

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

Last week Edda, Artur, Emma, Fionn and Trevor helped with a donation. Thank you so much!! Your help and support is much appreciated by me and (hopefully) by all other readers of the Dublin Event Guide, because without you, the Dublin Event Guide couldn’t continue!

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that Euro! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 4. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

And there is more…

+++ Messiah on the Steet – Celebratory Performance
Messiah, the oratorio composed by George Friedrich Händel was performed for the very first time in Dublin on 13 April 1742 and every year Messiah (parts of it!) will be performed again in Fishamble Street in Dublin 8 (right next to Christ Church Cathedral) very very close to the point where the world premiere took place 282 years ago. And again in 2024 there will be a performance by Our Lady’s Choral Society and the Dublin Händel Orchestra. It will take place on Saturday 13 April at 13:00  on the street. Admission is free. The audience is invited to participate and it is a great event that I recommend strongly if you are open to experiencing something different.

+++ Dublin Learning City Festival
The Dublin Learning City Festival is a 3-day festival from Mon 15 – Wed 17 April that provides a huge range of free online and in-person learning opportunities for everybody. From walking tours, talks, arts & crafts via workshops to exhibitions and music, there is a wide variety of topics and areas covered, so that everybody can find something interesting. The full programme is here dublinlearningcity.ie/festival/whats-on-all-events/ I counted 111 events and won’t even try to select SOME tor inclusion on the listing above. Instead you HAVE to go to the website to check for yourself.

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get! – Check out the website at www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

+++ Five Lamps Arts Festival
From 11-20 April the Five Lamps Arts Festival takes place. Originally all events were happening in the are around the Five Lamps, an iconic street lamp post in Amiens Street. Now there are even events in South Dublin. There are over 30 events in 15 venues and all details can be found at fivelampsarts.ie/events/ Alternatively you can download the festival brochure at fivelampsarts.ie/festival2024/
There are some free events, some events where via Eventbrite a donation is requested (which does not make it free anymore) and a good few evens that are not free. I will sprinkle a few of the free events in the Dublin Event Guide, but I suggest you check the programme to get a full picture.

+++ One Dublin One Book
Every April one book will be chosen in Dublin for the “One Dublin One Book” Festival. Throughout the whole month, a large range of events will take place in connection with this book. In 2024, the book “Snowflake” by author Louise Nealon was chosen ad – as long as they are free – I will include as many events as possible in the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events). Snowflake is a novel about the growing up of Debbie, a girl from an Irish dairy farm who then starts studying in Trinity College, and her eccentric parents.  www.onedublinonebook.ie/

+++ dlr Spring into Heritage 2024
