July 29th, 2023

Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)

Artificial Intelligence will change everything! Here is help!

Bray Air Display, Liberties Festival, Summer in Dublin, Irish Defence Forces Open Day, Funfest, Sandcastle & Sculpture Competition

Hi!!

July is coming to an end and it will end with a big bang! The airshow in Bray, the Bray Air Display, is a super popular event. The “Summer in Dublin” will be in North Earl Street, Dublin 1 this weekend and at Farmleigh House the Irish Defence Forces Open Day, will attract crowds on Saturday and although the GAA Football All-Ireland is not free, it will also get a lot of attention on Sunday. ;-)

And while we can’t imagine Summer 2023 without rain anymore :-o it won’t be too bad this weekend, if we can trust the forecasts. On Saturday the 12:00-15:00 time frame has a rain risk and on Sunday the 14:00-17:00 time frame. So there are a good few more hours with good enough weather. (We are not asking for much…anymore! ;-) )

And now to something completely different: You have heard of Alexa, right? And maybe you know about Netflix recommendations? They both use something called “Artificial Intelligence” (AI). And last November, the world changed when ChatGPT, an AI software that writes like a human being and simplifies so many daily tasks, was made public. If you are curious about what they are , what they do and how AI will be able to help you, read on!

Some of you know that in addition to publishing the Dublin Event Guide for the last 16 years, I am also a trained and certified Personal Development and Business Coach, but a lot less of you know that my original background is in Computer Science & Computer Engineering and that I am still working as an IT & Telecoms Consultant.

With that background you will probably not be surprised that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ChatGPT etc not just very much interest me, but I also use them intensively and  talk frequently to friends and colleagues about it.

While doing that I realised that many people have not had a chance to give it a closer look and to learn about AI and ChatGPT. Sooo, having a good bit of experience with these tools, I thought some of my wonderfully curious Dublin Event Guide family might be interested in learning more. And I came up with the idea to offer an “Introduction to AI and ChatGPT” class for all Dublin Event Guide followers (you can bring your friends if you want ;-) ). And the best is that it will be completely free.

It will be a 2-hour class, online on a weekday evening (probably 19:30-21:30) at the end of August. The 2 hours will be filled with usable information. No techie talk, only information that EVERYONE can understand.

If you are interested, go to www.getthislink.com/AIclass This link will bring you to a very short questionnaire to express your interest. (If you are wondering why I am offering this class for free? For TWO reasons: 1) Because I like free events and 2) because I think EVERYBODY should know about AI. It is here to stay and will change all our lives! Go to www.getthislink.com/AIclass and add your name.

Donations in August:
EUR -35

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

Thank you soo much for helping again this week! This week the following wonderful people donated: Frances, Yasmin, Enid, Cornelia! Thank you! :-) Your donation will keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and will motivate me to continue week after week. I appreciate you and your support!

The month is nearly over, but in July, the donations were not enough to pay the bills, so we enter August with a MINUS. That’s not a good start of a new months.Your help is urgently needed!!! This is the first time since I introduced the donation meter about 2 years ago, that we start a month with a neagtive value. :-o

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that Euro! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 4. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

+++ Homecoming: JKF in Ireland

This is a new, temporary exhibition that brings you back to to 1963 when John F Kennedy, the President of the USA, was in Ireland for 4 days. This was the first visit to Ireland by a US President, while in power.
The exhibition will be on show until September 2023 and admission is included in the normal ticket price.

From 23 July until 13 August, every Sunday a “Summer in Dublin” event will take place somewhere in Dublin City. There will be stalls, face painting, giant board games, costumed characters, arts & crafts and on 06 Aug there will also be an outdoors movie. The event will take place from 13:00-17:00 and the first one is in Suffolk Street Dublin 2. After that the locations will be North Earl Street, Dublin 1 on 30 July, Capel Street, Dublin 1 on 06 July and then finally on 13 Aug the event will be in South King Street, Dublin 2. www.dublintown.ie/whats-on-events/summer-in-dublin-free-family-fun-on-sundays/

+++ IKEA Crafting / Music / Cooking Workshops
Ikea in Ballymun runs a variety of crafting, music and cooking workshops and there are still some places available. The workshops are free and go for 45 minutes and are for children. Check them out on www.ikea.com/ie/en/stores/events/ikea-ballymun/

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get! – Check out the website at www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

+++ Liberties Festival
This year’s Liberties Festival will be from 24-30 July. It is one of the oldest festivals of a suburb/area of Dublin and lots of events are planned. All events are listed on the website, but they are sorted by type, which makes it unnecessary complicated to get an overview of what is happening. The events are there, but it will take time to get through the seven categories. thelibertiesfestival.com

+++ Some more events:
Find Library events here www.dublincity.ie/events
and Trinity College Events here www.tcd.ie/news_events/events/?day=31&month=07&year=2023&search=week

+++ Storytelling and Toddler Groups at Dublin City Libraries
The Dublin City Libraries have published a list of Storytelling and Toddler groups for age 0-4 across the Dublin City Libraries. You can find it here www.dublincity.ie/library/blog/storytelling-and-toddler-groups-dublin-city-libraries

And this is it for another week! Have a great weekend and good new week.

Take care,
