Hi all!
This Dublin Event Guide will be a little shorter than usually and I will focus more on weekend events than weekday events. It is not because nothing is happening, but because “Rona” got me! After dodging it successfully for 2 years, I was caught and have not the slightest clue where and how. The only good thing is that I am now OFFICIALLY certified as a POSITIVE person. :-D

Nothing to worry about, I am feeling quite well, but headache and body aches are not the best starting point for the 10 hours it usually takes me on a Friday night to compile this Dublin Event Guide. Apologies for the reduced service this week, but next week all will be back again!

I am regularly asked why even after nearly 15 years, I am still writing the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) every week … and even when I am sick in bed. :-) So I thought maybe it would be a good idea to share with you what gives me the energy and enthusiasm for it. And if you allow me, I will do that by telling you a little story.

On Monday of last week, the great people from “EPIC – The Irish Emigration Museum” had organised a media visit to a few touristic sites in Dublin and I was invited. We visited the Custom House Museum, Croke Park, Glasnevin Cemetery, Teeling Distillery and EPIC and at the different locations we particularly looked at additions to the museums that were sponsored by Failte Ireland through their “Dublin’s Surprising Stories” grant.

It was a great tour with media representatives from traditional and online media. We were just on our way from the Daniel O’Connell grave at Glasnevin Cemetery to the Michael Collins grave during an amazingly interesting and fascinating tour. The tour was lead by Adam, an outstanding tour guide who has the ability to make even a cemetery tour a fun event, but just by coincidence I was walking next to a participant who I hadn’t talked to before and – as you do – we introduced ourselves.

She: I am Sarah. Me: I am Joerg. She: NO! Are you the Joerg from the Dublin Event Guide? Me: Yes. (I guess there are not too many Joergs on media tours in Dublin.) And in our further chats it turned out that Sarah was Sarah Hanrahan, an digital creator, blogger and very successful Instagrammer (Is that a word?), who I was in contact a few times over the years, but we never met. Sarah’s Instagram profile at www.instagram.com/i_come_undone has more than 62,500 followers and if you are not yet, you should follow her!! Sarah told me that she is following the Dublin Event Guide since her time as a student and that she used it to plan her time out in Dublin and she had LOTS more great things to say about the Dublin Event Guide and how it impacted her life. Before the pandemic she was also posting about events (a mix of free and non-free events) on her Instagram page and her websites.

It is always wonderful to meet people that like and appreciate what you do and in this case, it really reminded me of why I am doing this Dublin Event Guide STILL.
|
|
But not enough meeting wonderful Sarah, a little later I was introduced to Jess Glynn, a Travel Content Creator, on www.instagram.com/itsjessglynn, who ALSO told me that she loves the Dublin Event Guide and used it for many many years.

|
And this, is the reason why I am still doing this Dublin Event Guide! The wonderful people like Sarah, Jess and YOU (who is reading this right now!) who love/enjoy/get help from the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)”.

By the way, let me be honest and admit that I was flattered BIG time by Sarah’s and Jess’ excitement. But there is no harm in being flattered, right. ;-)
