Hi all!
Oh no! Will it ever end? Yesterday it was Delta, today it is Omicron and tomorrow it might be Sigma or Psi or Omega. And all the while the media enjoy their latest past time of sensationalising everything totally out of all proportion. If that sensationalism continues and if politicians don’t grow a stronger spine, then we will be in this mess for another few years.

You might have heard that many Christmas events already have been cancelled and more will get cancelled. The new Christmas Market that was planned in the City’s historical Fruit & Veg Market is cancelled and so are Christmas Concerts in St. Patrick’s Cathedral and in St. Mary’s Pro-Cathedral. Others haven’t made the hard decision yet or at least haven’t announced it yet, but the signs are not good.

The government is definitely trying to avoid another lockdown, but more and more it looks as if a new lockdown is unavoidable. (When it will be announced, watch out for the “Omicron” word! It will be everywhere!) And what can we do? There is and will always be ONE thing that will be behind any increase or decrease of spread. And this one thing is social contact. It looks like we are doing too much of that again.

So is it back to online events again? We don’t know yet, but no matter what happens, if there are ANY free events taking place online or offline, you will find them here in the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)”.

+++ The Moving Crib is back
For the 65th year the moving crib is back at the St Martin Apostolate at Parnell Square. It is a whole basement floor of a crib installation and many other scenes from the bible and many of the figures and installation have moving parts. Definitely something for kids, but I enjoyed it as well when I visited the Moving Crib a few years ago. Opening hours are 11:00-18:00 every day of the week from 23 Nov-09 Jan (closed on Christmas Day, St. Stephen’s Day and New Year’s Day). Admission is free, but booking is required. www.stmartin.ie/crib/

Until the end of 2021, entry to Dublin Castle is free for all visitors. You will be able to visit the State Apartments on a self-guided tour. There are currently no guided tours and therefore the Medieval Undercroft and Chapel Royal are not accessible. Opening hours are Mon-Sun & Bank Holidays: 09:45-17:45 (last admission 17:15). Tickets can be booked at dublincastle.admit-one.eu/?p=calendar&ev=SELFGUIDE for free there will also a limited number of tickets available at the ticket desk.

The National Gallery is usually free anyway, but in current times you will have to book tickets to get access and you have to enter the building on the Merrion Street side.
