Event Guide: Urban Garden, Music in Temple Bar and Family Day in Sandymount

Hi All,

It is Wednesday and that means the weekend can’t be toooooo far away :-) and as I will be too busy tomorrow, I am sending this mail already today.

With the current weather you wouldn’t think it, but tomorrow is the official start of summer marked by the summer solstice. And consequently the temperatures are forecasted to go down towards the weekend. However, there are meant to be even SOME dry spells on Saturday and Sunday and with more events this weekend, let’s hope that that comes true.

This weekend there are three relevant events:

– “Urban Garden” on Smithfield Plaza
– Music in Temple Bar on Meeting House Square
– Dublin City Council Family Activity Day

The Urban Garden event on Saturday sounds interesting, but I can’t imagine what and how it will be. It will be on this weekend and in two weeks time.

Yurodny & Myriada are two musical groups that will perform in Meeting House Square at 4pm on Sunday as part of the Temple Bar Diversions Festival.

If you have children or have nephews and nieces to entertain or can get a loan of children from a neighbour or friend, (Don’t loan them from unsuspecting parents in shopping centres!) the Dublin City Family Activity Day might be interesting. This week it is in Sandymount Green, but more locations will be visited over the summer and the dates are below.

As always all events are free!

Have a look at the Temple Bar website www.templebar.ie! As part of the Diversions Festival, Temple Bar has lots of outdoor cinema screenings at weekends (Saturday) and during the week. All screenings are free but you need to get tickets beforehand. The website (follow the link to the Diversions Festival) lists the details.

Have a good rest of the week and an even better weekend.

Regards,

–Joerg

Urban Garden, Smithfield 23rd June and 7th of July

As Dublin develops as a European City, apartment living is becoming the norm. The aim is to add colour to our community and encourage biodiversity, conservation and sustainability of our green land.

Take a concrete canvas and spectacularly transform it into a magical civic garden with large planters, flower boxes and picnic areas.

Inspired by the tradition of markets in the Smithfield area special event days will happen on  23rd June and 7th July when interactive performers, musicians, markets and games areas will populate Smithfield Plaza.

Sunday 24th June
4pm, Meeting House Square

Yurodny & Myriada

in association with Diversions
The warm colours of the Eastern Mediterranean meet the sinuous grooves of the Balkans in this fascinating encounter between Dublin’s Yurodny and Crete’s Myriada. Prior to this performance, both groups will engage in a period of collaboration toward a common musical lingua franca, with new compositions that make their debut in Meeting House Square. It’s the latest project from saxophonist Nick Roth, whose imaginative style has yielded a diverse range of Irish music initiatives, including the boundary stretching Kai Big Band and Dublin’s annual Klezmer Festival.
No tickets required
