Event Guide: Air Show, African Market, Bray Air Display

Hi all!

Since it has stopped raining after 49 days (!!) of rain for a little breather and we had a whopping 2 whole days without any rain at all this summer, we should hope and pray for the bank holiday weekend.

Shopping and entertainment will be available at the Smithfield Summer Market. The market is opening tomorrow evening (3rd of August) and will allegedly be “the biggest open air market Dublin has ever seen”.
As well as stalls selling something for everyone, the Smithfield Market hosts street entertainment and kids’ activities. There is also a picnic area so you can relax. The Smithfield Summer Market is open every Friday and Saturday until the 1st of September.

The Festival of African Art and Culture is on this weekend as well. www.festaac.com gives details. On Sunday and Monday there is an African market + music performances on Meeting House Square in Temple Bar. There is as well a African Concert and there are open-air movies (in Temple Bar??). The website does look nice, but is not very informative when it comes to the LOCATIONS of the events. Surprising and a lost opportunity, but, hey, the African Market is at least something you could go to.

++++++++ NEWSFLASH ++++++++++++
During the coming week I will tell you more about an event – or rather a number of events – myself and 20+ others are putting a LOT of energy in at the moment. It will be the best event of the summer and I am TOTALLY unbiased! ;-) So keep your eyes peeled for a mid-week event guide and make sure you read this extraordinary event guide!

This weekend, the Bray Summer Festival comes to close and does this with the “Bray Air Display” a 90 minute show of aerobatics on Sunday at 3pm. The event is headlined by the Irish Air Corps with many more visiting aircraft of all types. www.brayairdisplay.com/ and www.braysummerfest.com/

The Temple Bar Diversions Festival still shows Outdoor Cinema every Saturday, this week the film is “This is Spinal Tap”. You need tickets (free!) to get to see the film on the Meeting House Square, and the tickets are available from the Temple bar Information Centre opposite the entrance to the Meeting House Square during normal business hours and on Saturday. Be aware that the tickets sometimes go like hot cakes, so a bit of advance planing does help. All movies are listed on www.templebar.ie

Enjoy your bank holiday weekend and let me know if you enjoyed any of the events I have listed here.

Take care,

–Joerg

Disclaimer: This Event Guide is sent to friends and colleagues of mine to lot you know about events (usually free!) in the Greater Dublin Area. I started this because some friends asked me to share my weekend plans with them as I went to all types of festivals and searched for more. ;-) If u don’t want to receive this mail, just let me know. If you have feedback, good or bad, PLEASE tell me. BTW: I have no affiliation with any of the organisers and don’t get any reward from them for advertising their events.
