Meet me in Killiney

Dublin Festival of History, Padel Open Day, Dublin Comic Arts Festival, Bram Stoker Park Family Fun Day

Hi!!

The surprisingly warm October weather makes it really nice to go to events and do things out doors at the moment. I am not sure if it compensates for the wet summer, but we take warm weather any time of the year.

I will be outdoors at the Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel in Killiney the whole day on Saturday and you can join me if you want. The hotel on Killiney Hill got two brand new Padel Courts and if you read the Dublin Event Guide regularly, then you might have read that I am addicted to Padel. ;-)

Padel is a sport that was invented in Mexico and is HUGE in Spain and Argentina, but is taking the world by storm. It has a lot of similarities with Doubles Tennis, but is played in a much smaller court that is surrounded by glass walls.

Tomorrow is the launch of the two new Padel Courts at the Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel and there will be opportunities for everyone to try out Padel (10:00-13:00 + 15:30-17:00) at Padel Clinics with coaches that will explain everything. And from 13:15-14:45 there will be an exhibition match with some top players.

Follow @PadelInIreland on Instagram to find out more. And if you want to see what it is all about, see some top players here www.youtube.com/worldpadeltour

If you are going, you will find me there. Just ask for “Joerg”. :-)

Would you believe it? I will have to move the next “Introduction to AI and ChatGPT” class another time! It is now planned for 18 October (19:30-21:30). Apologies, but I promise it will be even better on 18th. There are soooo many changes in the last 2 weeks alone.

The 2-hour class “Introduction to AI and ChatGPT” will give you an overview of what is important to know in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and will give you an introduction to ChatGPT on Wed 11 Oct from 19:30-21:30. Importantly, you do NOT have ANY technical background, but all will be explained so that everyone will understand it. AI and services like ChatGPT will change our lives more than Google did, so EVERYBODY needs to know what is happening. We will look at the good and the bad of AI! The event will be online via Zoom. If you are interested, let me know here www.getthislink.com/AIclass2

Even if you attended the first one, you should consider coming a second time. I will have lots of news and there will be another few interesting changes. The attendees at the first AI introduction alrady said that “I enjoyed every minute.” And this one will be better!

Donations in October:
EUR 97

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

Last week, the only wonderful people helping with donations were Marina, Noeleen, Keith, Carol, Catherine, Mirjam. Thank you very much! Your help is much appreciated and is making a difference. Without it, the Dublin Event Guide can not survive.

A new month has started and things are not looking bad with a carry over from last month of EUR 45, but your help to reach the EUR 200 is much appreciated and the sooner we reach it, the sooner I can stop worrying about it. ;-)

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that Euro! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 4. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

+++ A Complicated History: Ireland and the Caribbean – Talk
Wed 12 Oct – 18:00 – EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum, chq Building, Customs House Quay, Dublin 1 – Adm: Free
Servants and enslavers; merchants and governors; educators and journalists – the history of the Irish in the Caribbean is complex. This talk will survey Irish migration to the region from the 17th century, telling the stories of a diverse range of people who set out to make new lives for themselves in places like Jamaica, Barbados and Cuba. To what extent have Irish people shaped Caribbean societies and economies? And how have Irish-Caribbean relations evolved in the last century?
Dr Catherine Healy, who will give the talk, is Historian-in-Residence at EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum and she is the curator of a newly opened exhibition on Irish-Caribbean connections.
The in-person event has sold out, but there will be an online livestream available and all details are on epicchq.com/event/a-complicated-history-ireland-and-the-caribbean/
