Useless Flea Market, Rainbow Umbrella Market, Art for All Day

Good Morning!!

Is this it? The end of the Dublin Event Guide on Facebook? Something happened, I am not sure if it was a change in the Facebook Algorithm again or if they started to dislike the Dublin Event Guide, butt wo weeks ago the weekly post shown to 15,000 people, last week it was shown to less than 2,000 people. Out of 83,000 Followers, this is a joke. And actually, this is the best description of what Facebook has become in the last few years: a joke!

Facebook was a big contributor to the Dublin Event Guide’s success in the early years.The Dublin Event Guide was in the Top 10 list of most popular groups in Ireland for about 2 years (before Facebook got rid of groups and I lost all 4,000 followers, just to re-instate groups a few years later, but the 4,000 were gone).

In peak times, my posts reached 60,000 people, but then Facebook smelled the money and started to show posts only if customers paid for it. At less than 2,000 it is really not worth the effort anymore. So if you read this on Facebook, PLEASE sign up to the weekly e-mail newsletter at www.DublinEventGuide.com (top right) or you will soon miss out on all the free events.

And another big company is showing their muscles and killing something that once was great: I mentioned it already that Book Depository will be gone at 12:00 on this coming Wednesday 26 April. Amazon is killing that once great company. This is really the last chance to order cheaper books for ZERO delivery charge. Do it now here shor.by/BookDepository or you will regret it. Maybe already buy your Christmas presents. It will not get cheaper anymore!

Donations in April:
EUR 173

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

Thank you soo much for helping again this week! The great people who donated were Tania and Gabriela. Thank you! :-) Your donation will keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and will motivate me to continue week after week.I appreciate you and your support!

We will have to reach EUR 200 by the end of the month so that I can pay the bills for the Dublin Event Guide. If you can help to get us there, please do so! We are in the last week of the month.

The 800th anniversary donations in March were EUR 250 and for now, I keep that separate from the donations for the monthly bills. The reason for that is that I plan to use that money to fix and modernise the Dublin Event Guide website. It really needs it and I was postponing that for a long time of the cost that are not covered by the normal donations.

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that Euro! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 4. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

And there is more…

+++ LOW PRICED BOOKS (WITH FREE DELIVERY) – LAST CHANCE
Book Depository is closing next Wednesday 26 April. It was always the place where you can buy low priced books, usually for better prices than on Amazon and they always delivered for free. But that’s it now! Bought by Amazon a few years ago, Amazon is now shutting them down. This weekend is your last chance to buy books from Book Depository. Use this link TODAY: shor.by/BookDepository
  .

+++ Poetry Day Ireland
For Poetry Day this year, a bout 20 events take place in Dublin and you will find the full list at www.poetryireland.ie/poetry-day/whats-on/category/dublin Some are mentioned in the events list above, but I was not able to include all.

+++ Storytelling and Toddler Groups at Dublin City Libraries
The Dublin City Libraries have published a list of Storytelling and Toddler groups for age 0-4 across the Dublin City Libraries. You can find it here www.dublincity.ie/library/blog/storytelling-and-toddler-groups-dublin-city-libraries

+++ Spring into Heritage – Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown – Free tours
Usually twice a year, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown offers free guided tours at major local heritage landmarks. The spring version is taking place from 10 April until 07 May. The tours are really interesting. They take place at at specific times and the sites covered are National Maritime Museum, Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre, Cabinteely House, James Joyce Tower and Museum, The Oratory, Marlay House, Fernhill Park & Gardens.
Tours need to be pre-booked and the online brochure and the booking link are on events.dlrcoco.ie/event/spring-heritage-2023
There are also two history talks (“The Metals” on 19 April and “The Borough Environment Through The 20th Century” on 03 May). Both talks need to be pre-booked as well and you should do that soon if you are interested. The booking link is on the same website above.

+++ One Dublin One Book
One Dublin One Book is a Dublin City Council initiative, led by Dublin City Libraries, that encourages everyone to read a chosen book connected with Dublin during April every year.
The chosen book this year is “The Coroner’s Daughter”, a crime fiction novel by Andrew Hughes.
There will be approximately 20 events throughout April in connection with the book and the festival and many of them are free. You find the events under “Events” on www.onedublinonebook.ie/

+++ TCD Talks
With a campus in the middle of the city, Trinity College talks and at times also events are in most cases open to the public. The talks can be found at www.tcd.ie/news_events/events/?day=03&month=04&year=2023&search=week and on the subsequent pages. SOME of the events are in the listings above, but only some.

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get!

Check out the website at www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

And this is it for another week! Have a great weekend and good new week.

Take care,
