It came as a HUGE shock yesterday when this news emerged:

Dublin City Council Announces End of Free Cultural Events in the City
|
|
Dublin’s days of free cultural events could be numbered, as Dublin City Council announces plans to introduce a new fee for all cultural events in the city.
|
|
|
|
From 01 April, all organisers of cultural events in Dublin will be required to pay a fee to the Council, which will go towards a lifetime supply of Pay&Display tickets for all current and future City Councillors.
|
|
The move has been met with anger from local artists and community groups, who say that they also want to get free parking tickets or at least get a Leap Card with 20 Euro on it.
|
|
However, Dublin City Council insists that the new fee is necessary because parking in Dublin City got so ridiculously expensive that City Councillors can’t afford it anymore. “We understand that this may be a difficult transition for some organisers and event goers, but we believe that it is a necessary step to secure that our City Councillors won’t get clamped when they buy their clothes and groceries in shops in Dublin City.” said a spokesperson.

Does that mean the “Dublin Event Guide (for free events)” will have to be renamed to “Dublin Event Guide (for unacceptably expensive events)”? And if we organise a free protest march against the ban of free events, will that cost an admission charge?

The 800th anniversary donations were EUR 250 and for now, I keep that separate from the donations for the monthly bills. The reason for that is that I plan to use that money to fix and modernise the Dublin Event Guide website. It really needs it and I was postponing that for a long time of the cost that are not covered by the normal donations.

One Dublin One Book is a Dublin City Council initiative, led by Dublin City Libraries, that encourages everyone to read a chosen book connected with Dublin during April every year.
The chosen book this year is “The Coroner’s Daughter”, a crime fiction novel by Andrew Hughes.

In St. Mary’s Pro Cathedral Vespers (sung masses) will take place every Tuesday and Friday. On Tuesday at 17:30 it is with the St. Mary’s Pro-Cathedral Girls Choir and on Fridays at 17:30 with the Palestrina Choir.

Phoenix Park Visitor Centre is inviting to an archaeology event for kids over Easter. On Sunday 09 April and Monday 10 April 6-12 year olds can dig for fossils and other treasures in 40min long sessions. Details are on the poster here
