You see it already in the headline this week, today is a big day for me! This is the 800th edition of the Dublin Event Guide and that means that for 800 weeks, that’s more than 15 years, the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)” has been created week after week and was sent to you.
|
|
In these 800 editions, I have listed more than 100,000 free events as I have calculated recently and I have sent well over 10,000,000 e-mails to all the subscribers. These are just MAD numbers, but they are also remarkable numbers. Crazy what accumulates over time!
|

|
|
I hope you are enjoying the Dublin Event Guide, no matter how long you are with me on this journey. Maybe this is your first Dublin Event Guide or maybe your 800th (yes, there are still a few people from day one!) I am happy that you are with me and that we are on this journey together!

I’d say that for many of you this 800th anniversary is not as huge as for me, that is totally understandable. ++ Lights, Camera, Action: The Irish in Hollywood (as Gaeilge)

With a record 14 nominations at this year’s Oscars, it would appear we’re entering a golden era for Irish filmmaking. However, Irish people have played crucial rules in Hollywood and beyond for decades and have helped to shape the modern film industry as directors, actors, writers, animators, producers and more.
Dublin born inventor Lucien Bull was an early pioneer of high speed photography, without which the Hollywood film industry would not exist. Others like the legendary actor, choreographer and Oscar winner Gene Kelly had roots in Ireland while the original designer of the famous Oscar statute Cedric Gibbons was also a proud member of the Irish diaspora.
The Tour will be in Irish.

We invite all Tiny Tots (Age 3-6) to an interactive storytelling experience at EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum. Meet EPIC’s famous figures in these workshops.
This month, join Draíocht the Seanchaí, the ancient Irish storyteller, on a fun adventure around Ireland, discovering all things Irish in this special “Seachtain na Gaeilge” Tiny Tots workshop.
Along with Draíocht the Seanchaí and using a mixture of Irish and English, you will sing Irish songs, learn simple Irish phrases and words, explore traditional Irish foods, hear Ireland’s famous folklore and learn about EPIC’s famous figures.

From 01-17 March the Irish Language Festival “Seachtain na Gaeilge” will be back. The website snag.ie/ or peig.ie/ allegedly has all the events, but even with the English translation of the websites I didn’t find it easy to reveal the full list. I hope you will be luckier.

+++ Discover Dublin Docklands App
Dublin City has a new app that allows us to discover iconic Dublin landmarks such as the famine statues, the CHQ building and more.
The app is available to download for free via doorsintodocklands.com/
After you got the app, you can point your phone at the landmarks and this will prompt the related images, videos and stories to pop up.
The app uses Augmented Reality (AR), a mix of 3D graphics, animation and audio, to immerse users in the story of the city.
Several colourful characters from history will also appear in AR to tell their tales. These include Captain Bligh who surveyed Dublin Bay in the 1800s and Maggie Doyle, who was a docker’s daughter.
