Dublin Event Guide 792: Getting into the swing! The Armagh Rhymers Performance, Comedy Crunch, Last Days of Moving Crib

Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)

Getting into the swing!

The Armagh Rhymers Performance, Comedy Crunch, Last Days of Moving Crib

Hello, I am late again, but hopefully still useful!

Are you? What the headline says? ….getting into the swing of things again in 2023? (For the Dublin Event Guide readers who are only learning all these English language expressions: “Getting into the swing of things” means “getting comfortable with a regular activity (again)”.

Schools will be back again next week (“Hello traffic!”), most of us are back in work, event organisers are publishing their events again and we all are bit by bit adjusting to 2023. (Although I am still tempted to write 2020 at times. :-O )

A new year, but normality has returned and for now, after Christmas, there is no big event yet to look forward to. So let’s just focus on the small events and make them big! We can do that! ;-) And there are plenty of really good small events happening in Dublin.

The “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)” is approaching 800 editions (= 800 weeks) soon! This week you have Edition 792 in front of you, so on the weekend of 04 March is the big Dublin Event Guide jubilee. Should we celebrate that in any special way. Let me know what you think!

If you know other people who could benefit from the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events), let them know! The best way to find about all the free events in Dublin is to subscribe to the weekly e-mail newsletter on the Dublin Event Guide website at www.DublinEventGuide.com (right hand side towards the top!)

Donations in January:
EUR 175

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

The great people that donated last week were Gennadii, Evelyn, Magdalena and Juliana ! Thank you so much! Your donation will keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and will motivate me to continue week after week. I appreciate you and your support!

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 3. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

And there is more…

+++ Gardiner Street Gospel Choir looking for (male) singers
Some of you know that I am involved with the Gardiner Street Gospel Choir, one of the longest established choir in Dublin. (There were only two Gospel Choir and we don’t know anymore if us or the other choir was first, over 20 years ago! ;-) )
After some difficult lockdown years, we are restarting the choir, have a new Musical Director, are changing up the repertoire and will build the choir again to the strength it had before.
For that, we are looking for some new signers to join the choir. If you are interested, send a mail to info@gardinerstreetgospelchoir.com  WE are looking for male and female singers, but initially male singers will be brought in first. Get in touch if you can sing, enjoy it and want to be part of a great Gospel Choir. We have great plans for 2023!!! ;-) www.gardinerstreetgospelchoir.com

+++ LOW PRICED BOOKS (WITH FREE DELIVERY)
Book Depository is the place where you can buy low priced books, usually for better prices than on Amazon. And Book Depository always delivers for free. By buying books from Book Depository you will also help the Dublin Event Guide for no additional cost to you, so two good reasons in one. Use this link: shor.by/BookDepository
  .

+++ Chasing the Ball – Football Exhibition
The Italian Institute of Culture in Dublin, with the support of the Embassy of Italy in Ireland are inviting to a football sticker exhibition in Printworks at Dublin Castle, showcasing original material covering the 1990, 1994 and 2002 World Cups.
Ireland and Italy and their football teams will be the focus and you will find a series of albums, stickers, drawings and other original materials.
The exhibition will be on show from 06-22 Jan and admission is free. Opening hours is Monday-Saturday 10:00-17:30.

+++ First Fortnight Mental Health Arts & Culture Festival
The First Fortnight Festival takes place this year from 06-15 January and in previous years there were many great events, dealing with Mental Health and Arts & Culture.
I was hoping for a great festival this year again and there are plenty of events, but the events section on their website is close to unusable. You can search for events at a specific venue, but not for events in a city or county, so a search is really cumbersome and I gave up. And that is only ONE problem with the search.
I can definitely recommend the festival, but regrettably when it comes to identifying events in Dublin, I will borrow Kimberly “Sweet Brown” Wilkins’ expression and have to say “Ain’t nobody got time for that!” (www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGxwbhkDjZM).
The First Fortnight website is here www.firstfortnight.ie

+++ Housing Unlocked Exhibition
The “Housing Unlocked” exhibition is described as a celebration of innovation, optimism and imagination. Eight architect-led proposals will be presented that are intended to unlock the housing potential in our villages, towns and cities.
Housing Unlocked is a partnership between the Irish Architecture Foundation and The Housing Agency.
The exhibition will be open from 14 Oct-18 Dec and from 03-17 Feb (Tues-Fri: 12:00-17:00, Sat: 14:00-17:00). It will take place in the former Science Gallery in Pearse Street (Naughton Institute of TCD). Admission is free. housingunlocked.ie/

+++ OPW Websites down AGAIN
For the 3rd or 4th time in the last few months, all OPW websites and with that all event pages for the National Botanic Gardens, Phoenix Park, Dublin Castle, Farmleigh House are inaccessible again this weekend! Somebody get this sorted please! ;-)

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get!

Check out the website at www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

And this is it for another week! Have a great weekend and good new week.

Take care,

–Joerg (dublineventguide@gmail.com)
