Magical Surprise

Christmas Markets at Farmleigh House, Rathfarnham Castle, Botanic Gardens, Grand Social, The Well, Stillgarden Distillery, Dallymount Park

Good Morning!! :-)

[Please note: It is not VERY likely, but there might be some venues that will cancel their events this weekend and next week due to the weather. Check their website before you go.]

Now that was a surprise! I was out on Thursday, following my biggest passion for the last three years, playing Padel (a.k.a Padel Tennis) at Bushy Park and while it was REALLY cold, it was a great evening of exercise and enjoyment. We were finished just after 21:00 and on my way home, suddenly the sky was FULL of snowflakes and in no time the ground was white.

Snow is something magical, isn’t it? And snow in the pre-Christmas time is even more wonderful. Sure, it only is wonderful until you need to get to somewhere on time the next morning and are stuck in traffic or until you want to go to a Christmas Market (for example) and it is cancelled because of a few snow flakes. ;-) We just have to accept that snow  (like high-ish temperatures in summer) is NOT something we are prepared for in Ireland.

Even more magical than the falling snow, though, was the excitement in a girls face (my neighbour’s daughter) who had never consciously seen snow. She ran outside to stand in the middle of the falling snow and tried to catch it with her hands.

It reminded me of the quality that I often talk about in my courses at the www.InspiringLeadershipAcademy.com That quality is “curiosity”  and if more adults would have retained the curiosity they had as children, we would have significantly less problems in this world.

Curiosity is a un-biased desire to explore, learn, understand and discover. Curiosity implies an open mind, a welcoming of change and inquisitive thinking! Conflict, disagreement, intolerance and judgement is characterised by exactly the opposite: Closed mindedness and ignorance.

So my suggestion to you for this weekend – just for fun! – is to practise curiosity wherever you get the opportunity. Try it out and see what happens! And if you want, tell me about it at dublineventguide@gmail.com

Donations in December:
EUR 99

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

The great people that donated last week were Siobhan, Stephen, Alan, Lorna, Eric, Mairead, Liz and Daragh! Thank you so much! Your donation will keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and will motivate me to continue week after week. I appreciate you and your support!

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 3. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

Bring your 3-6 year old to this interactive storytelling experience at EPIC and meet EPIC’s famous figures on our way to the North Pole!
Did you know that polar bears come from Ireland? Scientists have discovered that they can trace their family tree to Ireland and that they are descended from Irish brown bears that lived during the last ice age.
One such polar bear, Nollaig, needs your help! He has received a letter from his Irish Granny, inviting him home for Christmas day – but some of the instructions are missing! Help him navigate home by finding and making all the items he needs for his journey in this interactive storytelling experience.
This is a special sensory, immersive workshop in which parents and children will work together to bring the magic of the story to life – creating, making, interacting, singing, acting and experimenting along the way. Children will create a very special winter canvas to gift to someone for Christmas.

And there is more…

+++ The best Dublin Christmas Markets website!! ;-)
Check out the Dublin Christmas Market website, brought to you by the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events), at www.DublinChristmasMarkets.com

+++ Christmas at the Castle – Ticket Update
Asking people to book tickets to get access to a Christmas Market was a daft idea from the beginning. It is unnecessary and doesn’t work and it seems that the organisers have finally realised it too.
There are two reports from visitors of the market: 1) Tickets are often not checked. 2) There is a second queue now for people that don’t have tickets and in off-peak times people with no tickets are also admitted.
Hopefully this is the last year of tickets for a market!

+++ Christmas at the Mansion House & Garden
Every day from 12:00-18:00 (03-24 Dec) the new Christmas experience at Mansion House will welcome visitor. After the Live Animal Crib was sent away (and found its new home in St. Stephen’s Green Park), the Mansion House has a Wishing Tree, a Traditional Crib, Pot Grown Christmas Trees, ReCreate Workshops in the Oak Room and a Pedal Power Workshop. Details are at dublinwinterlights.ie/christmas-at-the-mansion-house/

+++ Live Animal Crib – Now in Stephen’s Green Park
The current (temporary*) mayor of Dublin did her best to kill off the Live Animal Crib that traditionally was outside of Mansion House to have some new Christmas display there. But after 27 years in Dublin, the Live Animal Crib is too popular and many many people were involved in finding a new place for the crib.
This year it will now be at the Summer House in St. Stephen’s Green park from Thu 08 Dec until midday on Fri 23 Dec. The Summer House is next to the lake in the park. The animals will be there from morning until late afternoon every day.
(*All mayors of Dublin are unelected by the people of Dublin and are appointed for one year only.) www.ifa.ie/resources/live-animal-crib-coming-to-st-stephens-green/

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get!

Check out the website at www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

+++ The Moving Crib – On Display

The Moving Crib at the Saint Martin Apostolate in 42 Parnell Square West, Dublin 1 is on display for the 66th year from 24 November until 08 January from 11:00-17:30 every day.

(Closed: Christmas Day, St Stephen’s Day & New Year’s Day. Early closing on Christmas Eve & New Year’s Day at 15:00).

The Moving Crib is a huge installation in the basement of the St Martin Apostolate building that shows a range of crib & bible scenes with moving figures in each scene.

November might still be a bit early, but closer to Christmas, it is a nice destination with your little ones to discover the stories in the display together (as long as the bible is relevant in your or their lives). Admission is free and booking is not required. www.stmartin.ie/crib/
