Dublin Event Guide 752: All back again! – One Dublin One Book, Dublin Learning City Festival, Five Lamps Arts Festival, Outing the Past

Dublin Event Guide (for free events)

All back again!

One Dublin One Book, Dublin Learning City Festival, Five Lamps Arts Festival, Outing the Past

Hi all!

I am back! ;-) Thanks a lot for many wonderful well-wishes! The Dublin Event Guide Community is an amazing group of people and I appreciate you. :-D

It is not fun to be sick and the tiredness that continues for a few more days is also not trivial, but it was easy in comparison to what others had to go through, especially with earlier variants, so I can’t complain at all!

Sadly I missed the good weather completely and being back to 1 degree at night seems so odd. But imagine when we had nearly 16 degrees in Dublin, it was 23 in Germany and the next day it dropped to 0! A temperature drop of 23 degrees from one day to the next, that is MAD!

Here in Dublin we will have to wait another while until spring time will come back and stay. But look at the picture below! I took that on 25 March last year. Nature is well behind this year.

This week, the “One Dublin One Book” Festival started. It is a celebration of Dublin through a selected book for the whole month of April. For a number of years old books were chosen, but because even Dublin with its literary richness will run out of good books, lately books that were specifically written for the festival are chosen and this year the book is “Nora” by Nuala O’Connor. The Nora she writes about is Nora Barnacle, who fell in love with James Joyce. One Dublin One Book is a Dublin City Council initiative and is organised by Dublin City Libraries and all events can be found at www.onedublinonebook.ie/whats-on/

Also this week, a great festival for curious people takes place. It is called the “Dublin Learning City Festival”. It will run from 04–06 April and celebrates and promotes learning for all, through fun and creative events. The Dublin Learning City Festival has been created by University College Dublin (UCD), Trinity College Dublin (TCD), Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT), Marino Institute of Education (MIE) and National College of Art and Design (NCAD). Events are free and there are well over 200 online and in-person events this year! Find the whole list here dublinlearningcity.ie/festival/whats-on-all-events/

And last, but not least the Five Lamps Arts Festival will run from 01-12 April. Their website unfortunately is not at all helpful at fivelampsarts.ie/ So, check on Facebook or Instagram where you have a better chance to find a proper list of events. (Only some events are free, so you need to check.) I found a few more and have them included below, but it is a pity that the website doesn’t have a comprehensive list.

Donations in March:
EUR 185

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

Last week the great people that helped with a donation were: George, Pery, Conor, Bebhinn, Jana, Elaine. Thank you very much! You are appreciated and your donation is as well!

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses. The first of those bonuses is described above.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 3. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

06 April – 18:00-19:00 – Annie Moore Room, EPIC, chq Building, Custom House Quay, Dublin 1 – Adm: Free
The private writings of those who came before us have long held the interest of historians and scholars alike. They provide insights into the personal beliefs and inner lives of the writers and allow us to engross ourselves in the intimate details they share. The vividly detailed series of letters exchanged between Joyce and Barnacle, an Irish emigrant couple often separated for long periods of time, conveys the sense of longing and urgency experienced by many others who find themselves in long distance relationships. Join us as we explore Nora’s story and the important role emigrant letters play in shaping our understanding of our predecessors. epicchq.com/event/reading-between-the-lines-the-love-letters-of-nora-barnacle-and-james-joyce/
