Back to Online, but there are still also Live Markets! – Arts & Human Rights Festival, International Literature Festival, Halloween

Hi all!

So, Level 5 again!? :-O How annoying/disappointing/upsetting is that? I think we all feel the same about it. But the trend was definitely going in the wrong direction and we probably all saw it coming, while hoping to the last minute for “just” a Level 4.8 rather than 5.

The end date is meant to be 01 December and lets hope that it will be that date and not any longer. It might depress you to see how far away that is (then don’t look at this timer) OR it might give you hope. So here is the Countdown Timer (for the people that get the Dublin Event Guide e-mail or check it out on www.dublineventguide.com but not on Facebook):

countdownmail.com

So what next? There is good news and bad news. The bad news is that most real life events will not happen until 01 December. (I don’t like calling them “Offline” events, because that kind implies that “not online” is a negative thing.) But there is also very good news: Level 5 is LESS severe than the lockdown the first time around. So Outdoor Markets, for example, can still happen. You are not meant to travel across town for them, though. And apart from that, we are going back to Online events!

I know, many are fed up with Zoom calls, but maybe you should consider revising that feeling! Zoom is just a tool that helps you to stay in contact or experience things while we can’t do them in real life. Sure you probably are fed up with online events, but it is not Zoom’s fault! Being fed up with an enabling tool will hold you back from experiencing good things. Imagine you loved painting and you felt that you HATE paint brushes, that wouldn’t help your love for painting. If you like communicating with people or learning or experiencing culture and Zoom can help you, then embrace Zoom! It will be with us for a long time!!!

A good few events in this Dublin Event Guide will be online (through Zoom, via Facebook Live or via YouTube) embrace them, enjoy them and make new experiences through these events. It doesn’t matter how exactly they are delivered to you.

I will continue gathering things to do for you to keep all of us going and if it helps you, tell me on the Dublin Event Guide Facebook Page or through an e-mail or through a donation.

This brings me on to how you help me: I need your help with the cost to keep the Dublin Event Guide going and over the years we have found this deal: I do the work and you help me pay the bills through donations. As long as this works, I will continue. If I have to do the work AND pay the bills, I will stop. Fair??? I think so!

I am not asking for a lot, but I think one or two Euro per MONTH is a very fair suggestion. So for the year, this would be 12 Euro or – for people you can afford a bit more – just 24 Euro per year! That is ONLY 23 or 46 cent per Dublin Event Guide edition! An amazingly low cost for the great value that you get every week! :-)

Please donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide
or for Revolut users among you just via 0872931571.

And if 12 Euro is too much for you, then it would be great if you bought one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide and you can do that on the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And come over to www.DublinEventGuide.com to check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps!!

Thank you very very much!

You want for more events and suggestions?

I found a few more things to keep you going or that you might find interesting:

1) HALLOWEEN EVENTS
Next weekend, from Friday until Monday, the Bram Stoker Festival is happening again. This year it is a free online festival and you can find all events here bramstokerfestival.com/
And also all events in Dublin that normally are organised by the four councils (Dublin City, Fingal, South Dublin and Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown) have also been moved online:
Ballymun’s Otherworld Festival, Finglas Fright Night, The Liberties Haunt www.thelibertieshaunt.com, Cauldron of Smithfield www.thecauldronofsmithfield.com, Dockers and Demons Festival www.dockersanddemons.com and more

2) FIVE KILOMETERS AT LEVEL 5
The Level 5 restrictions mention the 5km distance again, but it is one of the most misunderstood restrictions. Many seem to think that this is the max range of freedom during the Level 5 restrictions, but that is incorrect. Instead you are asked to stay at home, but you are allowed to leave for essential reasons and there is no restriction to the distance if you leave for essential/vital reasons. The 5km limit ONLY applies to your range for exercise! So you are not meant to exercise outside a 5km radius around your home and this website will help you again to remind yourself how far 5km is 2kmfromhome.com/5km
But if you – for example – need to go to a Health Food Store to get some required supplements and that store is outside of a 5km radius, you are allowed to go there. The list of exceptions for extending the range of movement can be found here www.gov.ie/en/publication/2dc71-level-5/#domestic-travel-restrictions
Also “support bubble” visits are allowed to be outside the 5km range. The details for this are here www.gov.ie/en/publication/3516d-support-bubbles/

3) PUMPKIN DECORATING COMPETITION – National Botanic Gardens
For many years, the National Botanic Gardens runs a very popular yearly Pumpkin Decorating Competition around Halloween. Unfortunately the normal display of the Pumpkins is not possible this year, so they decided to run an competition with a VIRTUAL exhibition.
Find out all the details here:
www.facebook.com/nationalbotanicgardens/posts/1713324428818081
Entries will be accepted from Monday 12 October 2020 to 17:00 on Saturday 31 October 2020.

3) LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES – Special Offer
Udemy courses are still super popular because as long as we still spend a lot of time at home, it makes sense to use some of that time to learn something new.
Did you learn a new skill in the last few months? In October most Udemy courses will cost between EUR 10.99 and 12.99 again. At some point in August the courses were even reduced to 9.99, but these things happen sometimes without advance warning. I checked though and in September and October there are no 9.99 discounts planned, so you better get the courses when you see form for between 10.99 and 12.99. Please use this link shor.by/GqCk because if you buy through that link, you help the Dublin Event Guide! ;-)

4) READ MORE BOOKS
A new free Book summary can be found here every week: readitfor.me/91927 Readitfor.me actually provides a number of weekly free book summaries and they also have a special offer at the moment still that will expire soon: For $99 you will get Lifetime access to ALL book summaries! This is a great price if you consider that their normal monthly charge is EUR 10, so in just 10 month you would have spent more than with the lifetime access.

To buy physical books and e-books I recommend Book Depository because they are usually cheaper than others and they always include delivery for free (and by using this link you help the Dublin Event Guide). Please don’t use any other links than the one below!! (Book Depository changed all their links and with the old one you don’t help the Dublin Event Guide.) With this link you do help the Dublin Event Guide when you purchase a book and it doesn’t cost you a cent: shor.by/BookDepository

And this is it for another week! Have a good weekend and new week.
Take care,–Joerg
