One step forward and two back?
– Lots of markets and some more events

Hi all!

So on Friday a new lockdown was announced. :-O Lucky – for us -, it is limited to counties Kildare, Laois and Offaly, but if you lived there, then you would be completely goosed, even if you never had any contact with any of the settings that show a higher increase in case numbers! Feels like we are going one step forward and two steps back.

No leaving the county apart from work related travel! And lots of other restrictions again. Restaurants closed, sports and meeting limitations etc.

Going forward, localised lockdowns make more sense than general lockdowns, but that also means that restrictions should be lifted sooner in some areas than in others. For example, Pubs could open where there was no Covid case for a long time and they could stay closed in other areas. But I really don’t think County-wide lockdowns make sense. We have to fine tune this further!

So, keep educating yourself and keep talking about it. Nobody is an expert here and even the perceived experts have NO experience with a situation like that!

Also (in case you haven’t heard about it yet): From Monday 10 August, the wearing of masks (ANY sort of mask!) will be mandatory in shops, supermarkets, shopping centres and other retail settings. But you do NOT NOT NOT have to wear a mask while going for a walk or for a jog or cycle! (Why do people do that!?!?!)

And finally remember, that we will need to stand together, while being physically apart! And join in in banning this other word from your vocabulary: It is “Physical Distancing” not “S….l Distancing”!

By the way: Why do I mention Covid in the Dublin Event Guide? Because Covid is all-present and has a huge impact on events and on our life. So, not mentioning it would be ignoring the elephant in the room!

As I said before, I will do my best to continue the Dublin Event Guide, but I might soon run a vote, just to see if enough of you really want me to continue! Feedback is needed! And you could leave it on the Facebook Page if possible! Please!? :-)

And this is important! Before we get to the events, I will have to ask you for support again because it has dried up over the last two weeks. :-O The Dublin Event Guide is entirely crowdfunded. That means it needs you to help with the bills! I use all donations to cover the cost for sending and hosting the Dublin Event Guide. Your donations are not for me, so you DIRECTLY help to keep the Dublin Event Guide alive!

You can help with some “virtual coffees” or maybe even a 10 Euro donation via Paypal or Revolut. Every cent is VERY MUCH appreciated!! Thank you!

You can contribute here on the “Buy Me a Coffee” site: www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG
Or even better (because I don’t have to pay any fees) you can donate directly via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide
And for the Revolut users among you, it is super easy via 0872931571.

Thank you very very much!

Hungry for more events and suggestions?

I found a few more things to keep you going or that you might find interesting:

1) Science Gallery “Invisible” open
The Science Gallery is open again and I just wanted to remind you of the access procedures.
The exhibition is called “Invisible” and is about all the things that we can’t see but that might (or might not exist) and to give you a taste of it, you can go to invisiblesciencegallery.com/ It is not a fully virtual exhibition on that website, but you can read up about the exhibits.
From Tuesday 11 August, only 12 people will be allowed in per hour and only if you have pre-booked. Find out about the rules and regulations for the re-opening here dublin.sciencegallery.com/news/foc-tzpbp and then book your free ticket here www.eventbrite.ie/e/invisible-at-science-gallery-dublin-tickets-116090679347

2) Virtual Reality Cinemea – Carlow Arts Festival 2020
The Carlow Arts Festival are running a Virtual Reality Cinema entitled “From the Arctic to Australia” from 01-31 August. It consists of a number of Virtual Reality (VR) films that you can watch with VR Goggles. All details can be found (even how to get low-ish-priced goggles) here: carlowartsfestival.com/slice-5/

3) Van Morrison Tribute
On 31 August, Van Morrison celebrates his 75th birthday and in August and September, 75 artists will perform Van Morrison songs.
Some ore details about Van Morrison and the celebration is here www.hotpress.com/music/rave-on-van-morrison-president-michael-d-higgins-joins-75-irish-musicians-in-remarkable-celebration-of-legendary-belfast-songwriter-curated-by-hot-press-22823834
Unfortunately the article leaves out the schedule for the celebration. But I found some more details:
The YouTube channel is www.youtube.com/hotpressmagazine and every day at 19:00 a new song will appear there.
For next week the schedule of songs is

Sat Aug 8th: Tim Wheeler – Jackie Wilson Said.
Sun Aug 9th: David Keenan – Slim Slow Slider.
Mon Aug 10th: Gary Lightbody, Miriam Kaufman & Iain Archer – Into The Mystic.
Tue Aug 11th: The Scratch – Sweet Thing.
Wed Aug 12th: Bronagh Gallagher – And The Healing Has Begun.
Thu Aug 13th: Imelda May – Wild Night.
Fri Aug 14th: Maverick Sabre – Beautiful Vision.
Sat Aug 15th: Wallis Bird – Listen to the Lion.
Sun Aug 16th: JC Stewart – Bright Side of the Road.

4) Online Courses – Special Offer
During the Covid lockdown, enrollments in Udemy courses increased by 425%! Wow! What did you learn during that time? In August most Udemy courses will cost between EUR 10.99 and 12.99 again, so it is not too late yet to learn something new. Especially watch out for 05+06 August on these two days the courses will cost just EUR 10.99. That will be the lowest price this month. Use this link shor.by/GqCk because if you buy through that link, you help the Dublin Event Guide! ;-)

5) Books
A free Book summary per week can be found here: readitfor.me/91927
And to buy books I recommend Book Depository because they are usually cheaper than others and they always include delivery for free (and by using this link you help the Dublin Event Guide). But Book Depository played a trick on me and I lost a whole month of affiliate rewards: They changed ALL their links, so if you used an old link, please don’t use it anymore and ONLY use this new link if you want to help the Dublin Event Guide with your purchase: shor.by/BookDepository

And this is it for another week! Have a good weekend and new week.

Take care,–Joerg
