Getting out of it in Big steps & 13th Birthday!  – Events in Dublin, Suggestions and More

Hi all!

The really big and very good news yesterday was that from Monday lots of restrictions will be eased and the 5-phase plan was reduced to a 4-phase plan so as it looks at the moment, we will be sooner out of Covid-19 restrictions than originally expected!

I have posted a brief summary of the changes here www.facebook.com/DublinEventGuide/posts/3503237769704383 if you are interested.

What does it mean for events? Unfortunately, there is no change yet! Restaurants and pubs with restaurant license can re-open from 29 June, but live music and maybe even background music will probably be banned for another while. (The concern is that people will speak louder and move closer when there is music, which will increase the spreading of droplets.) Museums & cultural institutions will be able to open again from 29 June at the latest as we know now.

So another bit to wait, but we are on the right path!! ;-)

By the way, there is some other great news! Imagine, today is the 13th birthday (!!) of the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events). Hmm, that means this weekly publication is now a teenager!! Wow! :-) Thanks for staying with me all these years!

And in case you would like to get a “birthday present” for the Dublin Event Guide or you just want to help paying the bills which I would appreciate a LOT, you can help with some “virtual birthday coffees” or maybe even a 10 Euro donation via Paypal to keep this weekly newsletter going for another 13 years. ;-) Every cent is MUCH appreciated and the money is not going in my pocket but will be 100% invested in the the Dublin Event Guide!

You can contribute here on the “Buy Me a Coffee” site: www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG
Or even better (because I don’t have to pay any fees) you can donate directly via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide
And for the Revolut users among you, it is super easy via 0872931571.

You can also go to www.dublineventguide.com and give your close attention to the advertisers there. Every click is appreciated.

Closer to Freedom Day

The news about opening our world faster than originally announced is really great news. The direction is the right one and I’d say we all can’t wait to have all or most freedoms back again. Yes, there will probably still be some restrictions even after August and there is still the risk of a autumn/winter recurrence of Covid-19, but people were doing a good job by staying away from each other and staying at home and it will be a nice thing to get a bit of a reward for it.

By the way, the new rules here www.facebook.com/DublinEventGuide/posts/3503237769704383 apply from Monday, not yet this weekend. You might feel that they should apply with immediate effect and I would agree, but like your passport identifies you legitimately on the last day of its validity and the next day you are an “illegal” that can be rejected at a border, dates often don’t make that much sense, but do matter.

If you are interested how different countries reacted or are reacting to the Coronavirus Pandemic over the last few months and how the world is slowly opening up again, have a look at these interesting graphs, sorted by a variety of affected areas: ourworldindata.org/policy-responses-covid

What can I do while waiting for Freedom Day?

1) Virtual Tour of the week
Our Virtual Tour this week will bring us to Rome where we will visit the opulent museums in the Vatican: www.museivaticani.va/content/museivaticani/en/collezioni/musei/tour-virtuali-elenco.html

2) Mental Health help for musicians and artists
Minding Creative Minds is a free 24/7 wellbeing & support programme for Irish musicians, songwriters, artist managers & event production crew. If you are an artist in Ireland and experience anxiety and stress because your source of income totally disappeared in March or if you have other problems in life, check out this service. mindingcreativeminds.ie

3) Gospel Rising Music Festival – 10 years
This weekend the 11th Gospel Rising Festival was meant to take place in Dublin. It had to be cancelled, but for all people interested in uplifting Gospel Music, the organisers have decided to do a 10 year review broadcast on Sat 06 June at 20:30. www.facebook.com/GospelRising/live

4) Online Courses
I found something new out about Udemy courses: It seems that curretnly the prices constantly move. Last week at some point they were all 11.99, now some are back up at 19 or 22 Eur. So check the site a number of times during the week to see if there is a better price. If it is 11.99 or 14.99 then buy! Check courses and put them on your wishlist here: shor.by/GqCk

Trinity College Dublin is providing the course “An Introduction to Radiation Oncology: From Diagnosis to Survivorship” so that you can learn about how radiation therapy is used to treat cancer including current treatments and exciting innovations on the horizon.
Admission is free and you can still join the course at www.futurelearn.com/courses/radiation-therapy

5) Books
Check our the app “Story Shots” for all book summaries. The basic version is free.
To buy your eBooks (or paper books) I recommend Book Depository because they are usually cheaper than others and they always include delivery for free (and by using this link you help the Dublin Event Guide): www.bookdepository.com/?a_aid=dubevg

And my book recommendations this week are here
+ The first one is “The Richest Man in Babylon” by George S. Clason. The book uses stories from ancient times to explain wealth principles in an easy and interesting way. (www.bookdepository.com/book/9780451205360/?a_aid=dubevg)
+ The second book is “The 10X Rule – The Only Difference Between Success and Failure” by Grant Cardone. Grant Cardone believes in “Massive Action” to achieve success in life and in this easy-to-read book he explains how he is doing that and he gives good advise how you can to! (www.bookdepository.com/book/9780470627600/?a_aid=dubevg)

And this is it for another week! Have a good weekend and new week. Stay sane and safe and smile, laugh and stay in contact with your friends!Take care,

–Joerg
