It is also a pity that there is no downloadable PDF that shows all events. The Ferocious Mingle Market takes place every Thursday, Friday, Saturday AND Sunday. On Sunday it is a fancy dress market. It’s a flea-market type permanent market with stalls and “chalets” for traders. The Oscar Verne Café and (at least at the weekends) live music adds even more character.

The location of the new indoor market is 72 Thomas Street (between the Vicar St venue & Cafe Notto) an opening hours are 11:00-18:00. There is also a Café, the Oscar Verne Café, open for business at the market.

The Dublin Food Co-op is open every Saturday at Newmarket for organic wholefoods and sustainable household products, plus over a dozen producer stalls offering organic fruit and veg., baked goods, dairy produce, wines, hot and cold food, etc. The Co-op is also open on Thursdays 12:00-20:00.

The weekly Honest2goodness food market in Glasnevin has fresh meat, vegetables, fish, baked goods, and wines. It is open from 09:30-16:00. It is behind Lidl in the Industrial Estate just after the Glasnevin Cemetary coming from the City Centre.

Parkrun Ireland is organising free weekly runs in parks and the first one will take place on Saturday 10 Nov at 09:30. It is a timed run over 5km and will take place every week. Participation is completely free, but registration before your first parkrun is required.

The Back Loft in the La Catedral Studios hosts an evening of Art, Music, Spoken Word & Dance. It is a celebration of the multicultural Dublin in aid of the Anti Racism Network, who are the organisers of the event. An art exhibition opens at 17:00 and the main event with performances from international artists will follow at 18:30. Admission is free and everyone is welcome. One of the first events of the festival is an “Evening of Remembrance & Storytelling”. This event will include moving stories and letters, Enniskerry Gospel Choir, and Justin Aylmer will be giving brief renditions of the speeches from Winston Churchill. For the last number of years Christ Church Bray has been marking the season of Remembrance for those who died in the World Wars of the 20th century. These stories will be developed further through pictures, and memorabilia.

Every Sunday, the Merrion Square Open Air Art Gallery takes place. Up to 200 artists exhibit their paintings on the railings on three sides (West, North and East) of Merrion Square and you can just enjoy the exhibition or even buy.

The Science Week will take place from 11-18 November and is filled with about 600 events throughout the whole country. The website looks nice, but it didn’t work for me. The next Fusion Sundays Market will take place this Sunday in the Dublin Food Co-op. It is a world culture market, an ethnic market, that focuses on the diverse ethnic culture present in Ireland today. The Market features a huge array of International stalls, ethnic food, live music and entertainment for kids. You can buy handmade goods, arts and crafts, recycled products, jewellery, clothes and food. The market is held every second Sunday of the month.

Everybody is invited to come to this gathering- From 11:00-12:00 it will be quiet and silence is required. After that there will be tea, biscuits and chats.

The well known Palestrina Choir sing every Sunday at the mass in St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral. They sing complete masterworks by Mozart, Haydn, Dvorak, Palestrina, de Victoria, usually accompanied by Prof. Gerard Gillen on the organ, who often also plays a solo piece.

The first ever Remembrance Run (over 5km) will take place in Pheonix Park this weekend. (It seems everybody is running this weekend!) The event is not free, but some of you like the spectacle and others like to know that Phoenix Park will be largely closed from 08:30-14:00.

The Sagra della Castagna (Festival of the Chestnut) is an Italian Festival to celebrate the harvest of the chestnuts. It takes place in Italy in or around the last week in October and – a little later – there will be a Sagra della Castagna in Dublin as well as part of the “Sagra dell’Arosticino”, an Italian Food Festival organised by “Coffee To Get Her” which will take place for the 4th time in the backyard of the Bernard Shaw Pub.

There will be a Food Market (Arrosticini, Porchetta, Salsicce e Fagioli (Sausage and beans), Pizza, Caldarroste), Vintage Clothes, Arts&Crafts, Music (DJ & Live), Coffee, Beer etc and (most likely) roasting chestnuts. The Sundays at Noon Concert Series is back after the summer break and takes place again in the Sculpture Gallery at the Hugh Lane Gallery. Now in its 36th year, this series of free (mainly classical) concerts continues to present the best of Irish and International music and musicians. Concerts run from September to June. The next concert will feature the String Ensemble “Concorde” at one of their concerts “Up Close With Music” celebrating 35 years of Concorde.

Olympic Boxer and Gold Medal winner Katie Taylor will sign her book in Eason O’Connell Street.

The “Dublin Sketchers” is an informal group of typically hobby artists who go somewhere different in Dublin every Sunday (e.g. National Museum, Maritime Museum, Dublin Flea Market, Farmleigh, Botanic Gardens, Dublin Castle), sketch for one to two hours and then meet up for coffee afterwards and discuss their sketches. There are some hugely talented people among them and it is a great idea to meet up with others who have the same hobby. Find out on their website where they will meet and join them if you do some sketching/drawing yourself. The Gardiner Street Gospel Choir, one of the best known choirs in Ireland will sing during the mass and everybody is welcome independent from your level of religiousness.

Rogério from the Brazilian dance project “Forró de Lampião” in Dublin tells me: Forró de Lampião is Brazilian music that has the same roots as Samba and there is a whole culture that has developed around “forro”. “Rhythm Rocker at The Globe” is a weekly event on Sunday night in The Globe in Sth Great Georges Street, Dublin 2. It is a Rockabilly, R’n’R, Roots night with alternating (week by week) live bands Pavement Kings, Donna & The Sazzy Catz, The Mosquitoes and The Pacifics from 21:00 and with DJs from 23:00-01:30. Yvonne Scott (art historian and lecturer, TCD) discusses the use of landscape in the work of artist Sidney Nolan, and explores the artists appropriation of established motifs and their reconfiguration to question ideas of national identity in a range of images, including the much celebrated Ned Kelly Series which is featured in the IMMA exhibition. This talk takes the form of an illustrated presentation and is followed by a closing discussion on selected works in the galleries.

Milk & Cookies Stores is a Storytelling Open Mic Night on the second Tuesday of each month. The group is founded on the belief that everyone has a story to tell and you can do just aht in a friendly atmosphere. It doesn’t matter if you have a story to tell or just want to listen. Every month there is a theme and this month it will be stories about Bad Things. “About those times when you saw danger coming like a tidal wave of…danger and just let it wash over you. Like a dangershower. Sort of like in The Day After Tomorrow when no-one would listen to the scientists and then they ended up living in a library while the world rearranged itself. Or like real life. Where that is also happening.”

The Alchemist Cafe is a forum for the discussion of important and interesting scientific issues that is much more informal and accessible than a public lecture. This month two events will take place. The “Havana International Language Exchange” is taking place every Wed from 16:30-19:30 in Havana Tapas Bar in George’s Street. There are many Spanish speakers and English-speakers are explicitly invited, but everyone else is certainly very welcome too, to meet for a chat to improve your Spanish or English.

“The dire consequences of unsustainable natural resource governance: from Colombia to Ireland” is the title of a talk to which the Latin American Solidarity Centre invites.

Speakers from Colombia and Ireland will address the tension between local communities and multinational interests caused by more intensive forms of natural resources extraction and how communities organize to resist an unsustainable model.

The Ferocious Mingle Market takes place every Thursday, Friday, Saturday AND Sunday. On Sunday it is a fancy dress market. It’s a flea-market type permanent market with stalls and “chalets” for traders. The Oscar Verne Café and (at least at the weekends) live music adds even more character.

Celebrate the Hindu New Year Diwali with the Chester Beatty Library: A traditional rangoli display (traditional pictures made out of coloured powder) will be there and you can listen to stories about Diwali with Meena Ranajani. On Thursday come to Grafton Street where the Christmas lights will get switched on (MUCH TOO EARLY!!!!) outside Brown Thomas at 17:00. Brown Thomas will also launch their own festive window display with the aid of an international celebrity at that time. I haven’t heard yet who the celebrity will be, but if/when I find out, I will announce it on the Dublin Event Guide Facebook Page.

The choirboys of St. Patrick’s Cathedral Choir School will give a special performance of pieces from their wide-ranging repertoire, both sacred and secular. The choristers (aged eight to 13) will perform a variety of works, ranging from Parry and Walton to Irish favourites “Cockles & Mussels” and “Down by the Salley Gardens”. The concert coincides with the launch of their new CD “In Dublin’s Fair City”. The choir will be directed by Master of Choristers Stuart Nicholson, and will be joined by organist David Leigh; guitarist Victoria Green; and pianist Judith Gannon. Admission is free of charge.

A Jazz Session will take place in the in the Radisson Hotel.

Astronomy Ireland’s weekly free telescope nights are beginning again, and will take place each Friday night at 20:00 if the weather permits. Check the website below for a weather forecast and to find out what you will be able to see at the telescope night. The focus will be on Jupiter and Moon.
