Hi!!
Today (06 Dec) is St Nicholas Day, a date that is hugely celebrated in Germany. When I was growing up, we would polish our shoes on the evening of 5 December and place them outside the door. If we had been well behaved, St Nicholas would fill them with sweets, nuts and a little present overnight. (See some similarity with Santa Claus?) If we were not good kids, we might find only a stick from his companion Knecht Ruprecht. It was a small tradition but a magical one and it always made the start of December feel special.
In Ireland we don’t celebrate St. Nicholas, so it is full steam ahead to Christmas at every corner.
With so many Christmas events popping up, the event list grew big. Every time I thought it was complete, another market, concert or community gathering appeared. Dublin is packed with things to do right now and that is a wonderful problem to have.
The downside is that I am publishing this week’s Dublin Event Guide late again. Sorting through such a large number of events takes time and I want to make sure that everything you might enjoy actually makes it into the list. I did post the Saturday events on the Dublin Event Guide Facebook Page, so that you have a head start, but the full guide is only now finished.
Thank you for your patience. Now that everything is gathered, you can dive into a packed week of festive fun without spending a cent. Let’s see what Dublin has in store as Christmas comes closer and closer.

If you have friends or family or colleagues that also enjoy cultural events in Dublin, let them know that they can sign up for the free weekly Dublin Event Guide newsletter at https://getthislink.com/DEGSignup

Donations in December:
EUR 124
(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)
If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.
The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.
This week the wonderful person who helped with a donation were Dervila, Roisin and Eric. Thanks a lot! EUR 76 to go before December is finished. Please don’t rely on others to help, but if you can, please support the Dublin Event Guide!
With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.
Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that Euro! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 4. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.
To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: https://gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)
In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via http://www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also https://revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)
To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here https://www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG
And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to http://www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?
Thank you!!

The Winterlights are back. This is not a free event, but it only costs EUR 2 for an adult and up to two children are included for free, so at such a low price it definitely deserves to be mentioned. Find all details at https://dublin.ie/whats-on/listings/dublin-winter-lights-at-merrion-square-park/

+++ DUBLIN LOVES CHRISTMAS AT RDS
Another one of this year’s Christmas Markets and Christmas Event venues with a a Bavarian Market, a Spiegeltent, ice rink and fun fair rides is “Dublin Loves Christmas” at the RDS in Ballsbridge. And it will run from Saturday 15 Nov until 23 Dec. The “Bavarian Market” opens at 12:00 each day. https://www.dublinloveschristmas.ie/

+++ TWINKLETOWN – CHRISTMAS VENUE
Twinkletown is different from last year. You might remember that last year there was an ice rink and an ice museum and a ferris wheel.
We are told that Twinkletown 2025 will be very different. The ice museum is gone, the Christmas Market is much bigger and there will be the Spiegeltent for shows and gigs and a “Santo Panto” live show.
“Twinkletown” will run until Sunday 04 January. Weekday opening hours will be 11:00-21:00 and at weekends the event is open from 10:00-21:00.
The Christmas Market is free and no tickets are required, all other features are not free.https://twinkletown.ie/

+++ CHRISTMAS MARKET or MARKET AT CHRISTMAS
In most European countries “Christmas Market” has a very specific meaning. It is a market in the pre-Christmas period that has a distinct Christmas-y feel. The stalls are in wooden chalets, there is beautiful Christmas decoration, many stalls sell Christmas-related crafts and arts, there are food stalls and you will definitely find Mulled wine there.
In Ireland (and the UK) this is sometimes called “Continental Christmas Market”, which implies that the Christmas Markets that happen NOT on the continent are very different. And they are! The “normal” markets that are called here Christmas Markets as well are for me just “Markets at Christmas”, not “Christmas Markets”. They lack atmosphere, decoration, distinct Christmas-related stalls, mulled wine and food stalls. I think they shouldn’t be allowed to be called “Christmas Markets”. ;-) What do you think?
–
I haven’t been in Henry Street for a few Christmas periods, so I don’t know exactly what is happening there and I am looking for your help. Dublin City promoted the daily market there as the “Henry Street/Mary Street Christmas Markets 2025”. Last time I was there, it wasn’t a “Christmas Market” based on the above criteria. Have you been there recently? Should we call it “Christmas Market” or rather “Market at Christmas”? Let me know! https://www.dublincity.ie/culture-art-and-film/henry-street-mary-street-christmas-markets-2025

+++ Dublin City Council Culture Company
Every week, the Dublin City Council Culture Company organises cultural events in venues in Dublin. They are events in addition to the normal events in museums, galleries and other venues. All events are free, but access is by registration only. And these events are POPULAR!! So when I get to checking them out on the Friday before they take place, the most interesting ones are usually already booked out. If you are interested, check them out here https://cultureclubdublin.ticketsolve.com/ticketbooth/shows (This week you only see a few, because every month a new batch is uploaded not in a rolling way, but in a month by month way.)

Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get! – Check out the website at https://www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)
