Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)

Jubilee ideas welcome!

800th Dublin Event Guide in two weeks

Good Morning!

The last few days, I realised: It is definitely getting warmer!! Can you feel the approaching spring? This weekend will be a little windy, and next weekend will be relatively cold again, but there is an upwards trend in temperature. I so hope for a wonderful spring and even better summer! And the mid-term break always reminds me of summer. Why?, you wonder? Because of the mad impact on traffic in Dublin.

It is super easy to get around when the kids are off school and on Monday, the traffic will go back to crazy level again. So summer means long summer holidays and that means much less traffic delays. That’s the link for me.

It always puzzles me that the difference is so stark. Is really everybody at home when the kids don’t go to school? EVERYBODY? I understand some of the reasons for the change in traffic, but would love to understand more.

The other great thing about approaching spring is that usually the number of events increases when we get out of winter. And that is always a good thing if you love events. I am hoping for some good and attractive (free) outdoor events this year.

I mentioned last week that the 800th edition of this Dublin Event Guide is coming up soon (We are at 798 this week!) and I asked for suggestions about how you would suggest to celebrate this big day. If you have any ideas, let me know at dublineventguide@gmail.com I would love to get your suggestions!

Donations in February:
EUR 253

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

The great people that donated last week were Elizabeth, Kieran and Gabriela. Thank you sooooo much! :-) Your donation will keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and will motivate me to continue week after week.I appreciate you and your support!

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 3. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

++ Talk: Photo Album of the Irish: Canada – Family Ties and Hidden Histories
Thu – 23 Feb – 18:00 – EPIC, chq Building, Customs House Quay, Dublin 1 – Adm: EUR 7.50
The “Photo Album of the Irish: Canada” exhibition at EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum celebrates the ordinary and extraordinary histories of Canadians with Irish heritage across generations, reflected in their family photo albums. It includes images from the 1860s up to the present, giving an authentic view of diverse Irish emigrant experiences across Canada. Collectively, the photographs reveal the stories people chose to remember and celebrate in their own lives.
Speakers Dr Orla Fitzpatrick and Dr Deirdre Mulrooney will discuss the role photo albums play in revealing details about how people lived and worked that official histories often overlook, and also give an insight into a fascinating family history as depicted in the Photo Album of Irish: Canada exhibition.
The lecture is presented in partnership with Photo Museum Ireland.

And there is more…

+++ Breakthrough to Success – Unleash your Full Potential – 3-day Seminar
This is a great 3-day online seminar that had a HUGE impact on me. I honestly think EVERYBODY should do it and you can read my story here joerg.ourpage.link/BTS
It will take place online from Fri-Sun 24-26 February (15:00-22:00 every day) and if you want to book your place directly you can do that at www.getthislink.com/ChrisHoward23
The seminar is free but you have to register. If you are curious, but are not sure, read how Chris’ training impacted me: joerg.ourpage.link/BTS

+++ LOW PRICED BOOKS (WITH FREE DELIVERY)
Book Depository is the place where you can buy low priced books, usually for better prices than on Amazon. And Book Depository always delivers for free. By buying books from Book Depository you will also help the Dublin Event Guide for no additional cost to you, so two good reasons in one. Use this link: shor.by/BookDepository
  .

++ Mother Tongues Festival
Mother Tongues Festival is celebrating linguistic diversity through the arts and is focusing on children and their families. There will be 14 events from 16-18 Feb and they will be in the categories of live music, creative multilingual workshops and interactive creative activities. Many of the events will be free and you can find them all at mothertonguesfestival.com/programme-2023/

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get!

Check out the website at www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

+++ Housing Unlocked Exhibition
The “Housing Unlocked” exhibition is described as a celebration of innovation, optimism and imagination. Eight architect-led proposals will be presented that are intended to unlock the housing potential in our villages, towns and cities.
Housing Unlocked is a partnership between the Irish Architecture Foundation and The Housing Agency.
The exhibition will be open from 14 Oct-18 Dec and from 03-17 Feb (Tues-Fri: 12:00-17:00, Sat: 14:00-17:00). It will take place in the former Science Gallery in Pearse Street (Naughton Institute of TCD). Admission is free. housingunlocked.ie/

+++ Discover Dublin Docklands App
Dublin City has a new app that allows us to discover iconic Dublin landmarks such as the famine statues, the CHQ building and more.
The app is available to download for free via doorsintodocklands.com/
After you got the app, you can point your phone at the landmarks and this will prompt the related images, videos and stories to pop up.
The app uses Augmented Reality (AR), a mix of 3D graphics, animation and audio, to immerse users in the story of the city.
Several colourful characters from history will also appear in AR to tell their tales. These include Captain Bligh who surveyed Dublin Bay in the 1800s and Maggie Doyle, who was a docker’s daughter.

And this is it for another week! Have a great weekend and good new week.

Take care,

–Joerg (dublineventguide@gmail.com)
