Hi!!
A quick word about last week before we move on. I managed to send the Dublin Event Guide with the wrong intro first and then resent it with the corrected one. In theory that should have fixed things, but in practice some email systems don’t take kindly to receiving almost the same email twice. So if things looked confusing or if the second version never arrived, apologies!! Good news is that normal service resumes now. ;-)
If there is one thing that has been perfectly consistent this year so far, it’s the rain. It feels like it hasn’t really stopped since the beginning of January and when it rains, it often does so with serious commitment. This is not gentle drizzle weather. This is proper, soak-you-through rain that makes even the most optimistic walker reconsider their plans.
That’s why this is a good moment to focus on what Dublin does very well indoors. Museums and galleries are warm, dry, free and surprisingly easy to forget about if you haven’t been in a while. The National Museum of Ireland (in Kildare Street or at Collins Barracks) is always worth another visit. There are lots of free guided tours, but even without a guided tour, there is plenty to explore and if it has been years since you last went, it will feel new again.
The same goes for the National Gallery of Ireland. It’s one of those places people often mean to revisit “sometime” and then never quite do. This weather is a very good excuse to stop postponing it. Free admission, interesting exhibitions and a solid reason to get out of the house without battling the elements.
So while the rain keeps doing its thing outside, this week’s Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) leans heavily towards events that happen indoors anyway. Talks, exhibitions, tours and performances that offer culture, distraction and a bit of warmth. Let’s make use of them.

Donations in February:
EUR 49
(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)
If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.
The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.
This week the wonderful people who helped with a donation were Siobhan, Valerie, John, Wendy, Oksana&Maksim, Milena and Oisin. Thanks a lot! Keeping the Dublin Event Guide going is quite low cost at just EUR 200 per month. Your help is needed to gather this money and your support is very much appreciated! All money will go to the cost for the Dublin Event Guide!
The generosity of the people who donated this week meant that we made up for the shortfall last month and we are one quarter on the way in February. It is a short month, so don’t wait too long with your donation. If you have never donated, but are using the Dublin Event Guide regularly, it would be really great if you could join the wonderful supporters!
With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.
Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that Euro! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 4. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.
To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: https://gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)
In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via http://www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also https://revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)
To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here https://www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG
And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to http://www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?
Thank you!!

+++ SUPERBOWL LX THIS SUNDAY
The American Football Final always attracts lots of people and it is quite popular in Ireland too. Some just watch American Football once a year for this important game, others are regular fans throughout the year and then there are lots of people who only watch it for the half time show. The show will be Bad Bunny this year and he match will be between the Seattle Seahwaks and the New England Patriots.
You can watch it on Virgin Media if you want to stay at home. But there are lots of pubs that also show the match. Here is an incomplete list https://www.eventbrite.ie/d/ireland–dublin/super-bowl/ Add the Woolshed Bar to the list as well.
In most places the pre-party starts at 20:00 or even 19:00 on Sunday evening. The kick off will be at 23:40 and it is expected that the match will continue until approx 03:30

+++ WORKING IN DUBLIN 1850-1980 LECTURE SERIES

There will be four lectures in March and April. If you are interested, check the topics out here https://www.histories-humanities.tcd.ie/assets/img/news/DCT_LectureSeriesSpring2026.jpg and then register via booking@dctrust.ie or +353 (0)1 882 6550. It is still a while away, but these sort of talks seem to book out fast at times.

+++ LIVE AID EXHIBITION
Live Aid was a two-venue benefit concert and music-based fundraising initiative held on the same day on Saturday 13 July 1985 in Wembley Stadium in London and in the John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia. The event was organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for relief of the devastating 1983–1985 famine in Ethiopia. The charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” in December 1984 was the start of the project. Live Aid was HUGE and had an estimated audience of 1.9 billion people in 150 nations.
Some of the performers at the concerts were U2, Phil Collins, David Bowie, Queen, Dire Straits, The Who, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Bob Geldof, String, Elvis Costello, Sade, Boomtown Rats, Status Quo, Spandau Ballet.
The National Library of Ireland is showing 70 photos and images from this decade-impacting, momentous event at an exhibition in the National Photographic Archive, Meeting House Square, Temple Bar, Dublin 2, D02 WF85.
The exhibition will be on display at least until March, possibly longer and will be open from 10:00-16:00 every Monday to Sunday (last admission 15:30). Admission is free.
If you are a child of the 80s or missed the concert, but have heard about it since, check the exhibition out!

+++ Dublin City Council Culture Company
Every week, the Dublin City Council Culture Company organises cultural events in venues in Dublin. They are events in addition to the normal events in museums, galleries and other venues. All events are free, but access is by registration only. And these events are POPULAR!! So when I get to checking them out on the Friday before they take place, the most interesting ones are usually already booked out. If you are interested, check them out here https://cultureclubdublin.ticketsolve.com/ticketbooth/shows (This week you only see a few, because every month a new batch is uploaded not in a rolling way, but in a month by month way.)

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get! – Check out the website at https://www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)
