Next Monday is Valentine’s Day. That’s the day for overpriced roses, bad service in overfilled restaurants, tremendous anxiety in many people that are not in relationships and significant pressure on people who are in relationship. All in all, a great day so!

You probably didn’t guess at all, that I am not a big fan of Valentine’s Day. Right? ;-) But honestly who is? I am a fan of celebrating love, though. Now that doesn’t need to be love to a person you are in a relationship with. You don’t even need a relationship for it. Just celebrate that you love!
|
|
|
|
Maybe you love your parents or your dog or football or dancing or reading. Just celebrate it. And if you have a Significant Other, you can celebrate it with them, but you don’t need a Significant Other to be happy. Just BE happy!

In the early days of the Dublin Event Guide, many many years ago, I organised for two or three years Dublin Event Guide Meetups intentionally on that day. It was something to do for people not in relationships on that emotionally charged day and it gave people in relationships a chance to leave the dinner date to a better day and come to this Meetup that only happened once per year. We had well over hundred people at some of them and at that time the Dublin Event Guide community was TINY.

And for this year? Do something on the day that makes you feel good and that celebrates love in the widest possible sense. (I love chocolate. Hahahaha) And in that spirit: Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

Last week nobody helped with a donation! This is ok because the EUR 200 for February have been reached already, so – strictly speaking – no donations are required until 01 March. But I want to be honest: NO donations in a week always fills me with a degree of concern.

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses. The first of those bonuses is described above.

Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that! +++ National Print Museum free for 25th anniversary
The National Print Museum is in the Old Garrison Chapel, Beggars Bush Barracks, Haddington Road, Dublin 4. It is a relatively small, but perfectly formed, museum in Ballsbridge and it shows and explains the history of printing in Ireland. In the past, retired printers regularly explained how the fully-operational historic printing machines work and the museum does a great job in helping all ages to understand how dramatically the world has changed in that area. The museum has re-opened on 21 January and is currently free, to celebrate their 25th anniversary. Guided tours are still on pause, but even a self-guided tour will be very interesting and educational. From 07 Dec to 27 March the Coach House in the gardens of Dublin Castle will be the home of a National Archives exhibition about “The Treaty 1921: Records from the Archives”. The Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921 is the centre piece of the exhibition. The National Gallery is usually free anyway, but in current times you will have to book tickets to get access and you have to enter the building on the Merrion Street side.
