Dublin Event Guide 735: Christmas planning can start now – Lots of Christmas Markets

Christmas planning can start now

Lots of Christmas Markets

Hi all!

Last night it was announced that nightclubs will close again from Tuesday until 09 Jan (At least! So expect a MAD busy city centre at night time this coming weekend!) and that more new restrictions will be (re-)introduced. Most of us will not lose too much sleep over the nightclub closure, but the businesses and the nightclub-going age group will be hit hard again! And the signal is also not a welcome one: Nobody wanted to go back to the pre-October situation.

I still don’t get how “1 metre between tables” and “There can be no multiple table bookings” in a restaurant will help, but clearly I am not smart enough to understand how aerosols can be controlled when the government says so.

With event venues having to reduce the number of attendees again to 50%, it is likely that the last few Christmas concert events that have not yet been cancelled will also re-consider their options, so if you have booked something before Christmas, you should check in a few days to see if it is still happening.

Looking at online events, it doesn’t seem that the organisers of online events who were active in the pre-Christmas period last year are rushing back again, so this Christmas could even be quieter than last Christmas. :-O

Considering that it is 04 December now and Christmas is just 3 weeks away, it is somewhat unlikely that there will be an even stricter lockdown again over Christmas this year, so you should be able to start planning your Christmas now.

Donations in December:

EUR 235

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter on the left shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

Last week the wonderful people that helped with a donation were Elena, Natalia, Thomas, Kate, Ann, Patrizia, Peter, Ann, Ian and Marta! Thank you very much! You are appreciated and your donation is as well!

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses. The first of those bonuses is described above.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 3. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

And there is more…

+++ Christmas at the Castle – Dublin Castle Christmas Market
The Christmas Market in the Courtyard of Dublin Castle is back from 08-21 December daily from 14:00-21:30. It is a market with a LOT of potential, but it disappointed a lot in 2019. Then in 2020 it was cancelled and is – somewhat unexpectedly – back this year. Some disappointments in 2019 where the small number of stalls and the selection of stalls. This year the market is called a Boutique Market, which suggests that this aspect did not get changed. However the overcrowding last time (because it was the only Christmas Market in Dublin!) might be reduced because this year you have to book tickets for a timeslot to enter the market. If you want to go, I would recommend that you book really soon! www.dublincastle.ie/christmas-at-the-castle-2021/ (Booking required)

+++ Dublin Arabic Film Festival 2021
Established by female Moroccan film maker Zahara Moufid, who lives in Ireland, and film maker Jim Sheridan, the Dublin Arabic Film Festival (DAFF) will take place again this year as an online festival from 08-12 December on www.dublinarabicfilmfestivalonline.com Most of the content is not free, but one film “Chaibia” is free. It is the true store of Chaibia Talal, the famous Moroccan painter who spends her childhood and adolescence in poverty. She was married and widowed with a child by the age of 15 after her family forced her to marry a 70-year-old man and she became one of the greatest Moroccan painters of the 20th century.

+++ The Moving Crib is back
For the 65th year the moving crib is back at the St Martin Apostolate at Parnell Square. It is a whole basement floor of a crib installation and many other scenes from the bible and many of the figures and installation have moving parts. Definitely something for kids, but I enjoyed it as well when I visited the Moving Crib a few years ago. Opening hours are 11:00-18:00 every day of the week from 23 Nov-09 Jan (closed on Christmas Day, St. Stephen’s Day and New Year’s Day). Admission is free, but booking is required. www.stmartin.ie/crib/

+++ Illuminated Forest Walks
Dun Laoghaire Rathdown, have their Christmas programme paired down to an illuminated forest walk at Marlay Park and also at Cabinteely Park. Both are open from 16:00-20:00 from Monday to Friday. There will be NO Christmas Market in Dun Laoghaire.

+++ Visit Dublin Castle for free
Time is running out! Only until the end of 2021, entry to Dublin Castle is free for all visitors. You will be able to visit the State Apartments on a self-guided tour. There are currently no guided tours and therefore the Medieval Undercroft and Chapel Royal are not accessible. Opening hours are Mon-Sun & Bank Holidays: 09:45-17:45 (last admission 17:15). Tickets can be booked at dublincastle.admit-one.eu/?p=calendar&ev=SELFGUIDE for free there will also a limited number of tickets available at the ticket desk.

+++ Low Priced Books with free delivery
Book Depository is the place where you can buy low priced books, usually for better prices than on Amazon and Book Depository always delivers for free. And by buying books from Book Depository you will also help the Dublin Event Guide for no additional cost to you. Use this link: shor.by/BookDepository
  .

+++ National Gallery tickets available here
The National Gallery is usually free anyway, but in current times you will have to book tickets to get access and you have to enter the building on the Merrion Street side. Tickets are available here: www.nationalgallery.ie/visit-us/book-your-ticket The National Gallery also is running events again and because the events have limited number of spaces, they can book out relatively fast, at least before I can write about the events, so check out the events 1-2 weeks in advance here www.nationalgallery.ie/whats-on and then book tickets for them.

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or NLP or some Business related “soft skills”? Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest cost for courses this month will be around 12.99. Check out the website at shor.by/GqCk And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

And this is it for another week! Have a great weekend and good new week.

Take care,

–Joerg (dublineventguide@gmail.com)
