Dublin Event Guide 813: Happy sunny bank holiday! — Revealing Grangegorman, Normandy Food Festival, Balbriggan Summerfest, Dalkey Vintage Car Festival

Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)

Happy sunny bank holiday!

Revealing Grangegorman, Normandy Food Festival, Balbriggan Summerfest, Dalkey Vintage Car Festival.

Hi!!

I am wishing you a happy bank holiday weekend! And what a weekend this will be. The weather will be amazing from the start to the end, with a promising forecast of 19 degrees on Monday. And there will be lots of events as well!

The June Bank Holiday weekend is actually the best of the bank holiday weekend for events. So don’t get stuck at home, but explore Dublin and all it has to offer.

One of the big events that was a yearly event on the June Bank Holiday weekend was the Dublin Port Riverfest, but that unfortunately seems to be gone. However we do have this year Revealing Grangegorman, the Balbriggan Summerfest, the Normandy Food Tour and the Dalkey Vintage Car Festival.

Busy for a bank holiday weekend! But come back next week, because things get EVEN better in the “free events world”.

Thanks for your votes on my question about the College Green Traffic. 89% of people were pleased that College Green is not accessible for all vehicles anymore. So that is clear result. 55% thought that it is ok to ban cars but not busses and taxis. And only 50% wanted an all-vehicles ban. So based in this vote, I am wrong and Dublin City got it right.

By the way, I know that I could have offered a lot more options in the questionnaire, but it was intended to just get an impression of opinion, not to do a formal survey (Dublin City doesn’t care about the outcome anyway.) I got some mails from people about it and I will reply, but didn’t get a chance yet.

Donations in June:
EUR 97

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

Thank you soo much for helping again this week! The great people who donated were Adam, Audrey, Cara, Mark, Theo, Eric, Giovanni, Sharon, Brian, Tara, Ewa. Thank you! :-) Your donation will keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and will motivate me to continue week after week.I appreciate you and your support!

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that Euro! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 4. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

++ Can Sport & Culture help us fight racism and understand migration issues?
Thu 08 June – 18:30 – EPIC, chq Building, Custom House Quay, Dublin 1 – Adm: Free
EPIC & the French National Museum of the History of Immigration, in association with the French Embassy in Ireland, have developed a unique collaboration to change the way we look at racism.
As part of this cooperation, we invite you to a discussion between the 1998 FIFA World Cup Champion and anti-racism campaigner Lilian Thuram and the Irish-Nigerian poet and editor Chiamaka Enyi-Amadi to better understand contemporary issues related to migration and to deconstruct a few preconceived ideas.
In France, for almost a century, the histories of sport, diversity and immigration have intersected and intertwined. These interconnected stories, marked by great success also highlight issues of racism and stigmatisation. How can we analyse them? How can we put them into perspective?

And there is more…

+++ Take 1 Ingredient – Meet nice people over chats about food!
“Take 1 Ingredient” is a new idea that is being put in the community in conjuction with NEIC, Dublin City Council and Mud Island Community Garden. Every first Sunday of the month at 13:30, meet at the Ambassador Theatre with a resident of the North East Inner City (NEIC) area and a volunteer who has come to introduce you to one ingredient from their home style of cooking. Walk to a nearby store, buy the ingredient and then walk to Mud Island Community Garden for a tea/coffee, a chat and share of the ingredients bought to take home and try out a recipe. The idea is to promote intercultural conversation through food. Sounds like a great idea!
Unfortunately I have no event link, but give it a go, it could turn out great.

+++ Institut Francais Cinema
The IFCinema by the Institut Francais will make 10 feature films available for free in June. You can watch them online via ifcinema.institutfrancais.com/en/streaming/alacarte All films are in French, but have English subtitles if needed.

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES

Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get!

Check out the website at www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)
