Dublin Event Guide 730: Happy Halloween! – A cauldron full of Halloween Events!

October 30th, 2021

Dublin Event Guide (for free events)

Happy Halloween!

A cauldron full of Halloween Events!

Hi all!

Have a great Halloween this weekend! It is not all back to normal yet, but we are getting there. “Trick-or-treats” was mentioned in health advice for the second year, this time though, it wasn’t strong advice against it. It only contained some smaller behavioral changes, that is progress!

The rules that our civil servants dream up are still bonkers though and you really have to question their mental capacity at times, but you can read a bit more about that at the very bottom of this week’s Dublin Event Guide.

In this intro, I want to mention something else that really shocked me. Maybe you heard about it, but if not, then maybe you can help! Trinity College have decided to close the Science Gallery, one of the best free museums in Dublin, in February 2022. Read more about this at the bottom of the mail and if you can help by signing this petition to Save the Science Gallery, then please do so here gturl.eu/SaveScienceGallery

A few weeks ago, I ran the seminar “Tame your inner critic – Reclaim your confidence and thrive in life” as a free Thank you event for everybody who ever has donated to the Dublin Event Guide and it was a big success. 50 people signed up and 42 were able to make it on the night.

Because I didn’t want to make it too big, I had set the limit to 50 and it turned out that a few more people would have loved to join, but couldn’t register. So for them and for all of you who couldn’t make it on that evening, I decided to run the seminar once again on Monday 08 November (19:00-20:30).

I also made some improvements to it and changed the structure a little so even if you attended last time, you are welcome to join again. If you have ever donated to the Dublin Event Guide OR if you attended last time OR if you had registered but were not able to attend, just go to gturl.eu/TameInnerCritic2 and register using the Discount Code DONATED to get free access. And if you have never donated, you can go to the same page and donate EUR 5 to the Dublin Event Guide on the registration page to get also free access to the seminar.

In this 90 minute seminar you will learn how to manage your negative inner voice that tells you too often “You Can’t” or “You aren’t enough” and start pursuing the life you truly want. If you want to change your job, business, relationship or some other aspect of your life, chances are that your “Inner Critic” is somehow involved! Then this seminar is for you!

Why listen to me? In addition to compiling the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) every week, I am also a Personal Development and Business Coach and Trainer and through my company, the Inspiring Leadership Academy, I provide seminars and workshops, including leadership training.

Register at gturl.eu/TameInnerCritic2 !!

Donations in November:

EUR 176

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter on the left shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be extracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

Last week the wonderful people that helped with a donation were Irene and Sonya! Thank you very much! You are appreciated and your donation is as well!

Because Monday is the 1st of November, I have subtracted the running cost for October already. For November we need again EUR 200, but we have a head start, which is really great. Since December is traditionally a bad month for donations, I hope we will be able to stay ahead.

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses. The first of those bonuses is described above.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 3. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

And there is more…

+++ Summertime –> Wintertime Clock Change
On Saturday night / Sunday morning at 02:00 the clock will go back by one hour and Summertime will once again be replaced by Wintertime. Do not change anything on your computer or smart phone, they are smart enough to do that themselves. But analogue clocks or wrist watches or car clocks etc need your help. www.rte.ie/lifestyle/living/2021/0325/1206015-everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-clocks-changing-in-2021/

+++ Haunted Halloween Drive-Through – Dublin 12 (near 6W)
Are you looking for a high quality spooky Halloween display that you can impress your kids/friends/family with? If you have a car and Dublin 12 or 6W is not too far, then here is the perfect solution for you: LostKeyHaunts are inviting to a “Haunted Halloween Drive-Through” near the Limekiln Rounders GAA Club, on the Limekiln Road Car Park at Tymon Park (the exact location on Google Maps is here gturl.eu/lostkeyhaunts and you can use that link in your phone). The Halloween Drive-Through will be open on Saturday 30 Oct from 19:00-21:00. You will slowly drive through the car park and will see nine scenes, some of them are animatronic displays and all of them are spooky or scary or Halloweeny. ;-) If you drive slowly it takes around 5-10 minutes. Admission is free and you will stay in your own car at all times. I have seen some of the displays and they look really good, so I will be there on Saturday evening! Find out more on www.instagram.com/lostkeyhaunts/ or on twitter.com/lostkeyhaunts/

+++ Trinity College will shut down Science Gallery – Don’t let it happen!
I was shocked when I found out on Thursday evening that that Trinity College had announced that they will close the Science Gallery Dublin in February of next year. The Science Gallery was opened in 2008 and has brought outstanding exhibitions to Dublin. It always tailored exhibitions to a younger audience (15-25) without excluding any other age groups and made science and technology accessible to everybody. In addition to the free-access exhibitions, there were really interesting talks and discussions, workshops and other events. It was a place for expanding your mind and learning, hearing and experiencing new things from the worlds of science, art and technology. I wrote a bit more about it at www.facebook.com/DublinEventGuide/posts/5040800809281397 and I also am suggesting in that article that we all support the petition at gturl.eu/SaveScienceGallery More than 20,000 people have seen that post and please tell others about the closure and about the signature campaign. At the time of writing this 2050 people have signed, but we need a LOT more to make a difference! Go to gturl.eu/SaveScienceGallery to support the Save the Science Gallery campaign!

+++ Chapters Bookshop closing
Chapters Bookstore on Parnell Street, a “Dublin Institution”, have announced that they will close their doors early next year after nearly 40 years in business. The bookstore opened its doors on Wicklow Street in 1983, then moved to St Stephen’s Green, Henry Street, Abbey Street before it arrived in Parnell Street. www.rte.ie/news/dublin/2021/1029/1256628-chapters-bookstore/

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or NLP or some Business related “soft skills”? Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest cost for courses this month will be around 12.99. Check out the website at shor.by/GqCk And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

+++ Low Priced Books with free delivery
Book Depository is the place where you can buy low priced books, usually for better prices than on Amazon and Book Depository always delivers for free. And by buying books from Book Depository you will also help the Dublin Event Guide for no additional cost to you. Use this link: shor.by/BookDepository
  .

+++ National Gallery tickets available here
The National Gallery is usually free anyway, but in current times you will have to book tickets to get access and you have to enter the building on the Merrion Street side. Tickets are available here: www.nationalgallery.ie/visit-us/book-your-ticket The National Gallery also is running events again and because the events have limited number of spaces, they can book out relatively fast, at least before I can write about the events, so check out the events 1-2 weeks in advance here www.nationalgallery.ie/whats-on and then book tickets for them.

+++ Visit Dublin Castle for free
Until the end of 2021, entry to Dublin Castle is free for all visitors. You will be able to visit the State Apartments on a self-guided tour. There are currently no guided tours and therefore the Medieval Undercroft and Chapel Royal are not accessible. Opening hours are Mon-Sun & Bank Holidays: 09:45-17:45 (last admission 17:15). Tickets can be booked at dublincastle.admit-one.eu/?p=calendar&ev=SELFGUIDE for free there will also a limited number of tickets available at the ticket desk.

+++ No smart Civil Servants left? More nonsensical pandemic rules!
We often like blaming the government and ultimately they carry the responsibility, but no elected official writes these pandemic rules. They are all written by employees (Civil Servants) of the relevant department. But it seems that the civil servants with a brain have left the building when you hear these nightclub and live entertainment rules:
+ To get into the nightclub, the queue outside (!) has to keep a 1m distance.
+ But once you are in the building, you can dance like sardines without mask on the dance floor.
+ As long as that dance floor is clearly marked. Because if you dance outside the marked dance floor, then you have to wear a mask (and you probably are not allowed to dance).
+ If you talk to your friends, you might have to shout with the loud music in the night club. You are allowed to do that, but you have to wear a mask if you are not on the dance floor, because it is dangerous to shout.
+ If you are on the dance floor it is not dangerous anymore. You can shout without mask as long as you keep dancing.
+ If you drink something, and not just in the very moment the glass touches your lips, but all the time while you are in the process of consuming a drink – for some people that is the WHOLE night in a nightclub – you don’t need a mask. Not dangerous! But as soon as your glass is empty the danger is back! Masks are mandatory!
+ If you leave your glass on the table to go to the toilet or queue at the bar you do not only need a mask, but you also need to keep a 1m distance in a queue.
+ Once you are back with your friends – with drink in hand – no distance whatsoever is needed, shouting is allowed and (because of the drink) no mask is needed.
—-
I could go on about the ridiculousness of these rules. Or about the nonsense that tickets have to be booked a MINIMUM of 1 hour before entering the nightclub. Nobody can explain why it is safer to buy a ticket 60 minutes before entering in comparison to 10 minutes before entering. When you think that a Civil Servant decided in their wisdom to write this rule, then defend it in discussion with others and if you then also consider that there were numerous other layers that waved that nonsense through and thought it makes sense, you really have to question that the people involved have any brain cells left. :-(

And this is it for another week! Have a great weekend and good new week.

Take care,
