Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) No. 605

Dear Dublin Event Guide Follower!!

And here is another Dublin Event Guide. This week should be the week of Africa Day! A celebration of Africa and its cultures and for 15 years we always had a great celebration in Dublin for it (for the last few years at Farmleigh House). But this year, in early April and with just a 5 days application period, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) oddly and unexpectedly announced that there would be no large event this year, but instead they decided to adopt “a fresh and collaborative” approach and wanted local authorities to organise their own events. So now these organisations had FIVE (!) days to come up with a plan for events and to apply for funding. It is no surprise that the time was much too short and Africa Day was effectively killed by the Department of Foreign Affairs. What a pity!

You might know that I am involved with the Gardiner Street Gospel Choir and when we heard about this change to Africa Day, we decided to organise an alternative celebration of Africa Day. It is a Gospel Mass in Gardiner Street Church in Dublin 1 (near the junction with Dorset Street) on Sunday at 19:30 with the Gardiner Street Gospel Choir, an African choir and it will be celebrated by the Papal Nuncio, Nigerian Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo. Everybody is invited no matter what religion (or none) you are. Say HI when you come! I will be there! ;-)

And just to explain this again: What you have in front of you is the simplified (new) Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events). It is a long list with event headlines and then links so that you can check out the details yourself. I hope it works for you. Because I am sending more newsletters now again, I will ask you for your help again and it is super simple:
Just go to www.DublinEventGuide.com and click on the ad banner that is at the very top of the page! If you don’t see an ad banner there, please turn your Ad Blocker off and then do the clicking. ;-) It is just a few cents that I will get, but if enough people click on it, it might do the job.

All events are sorted by start time, but watch out for the few events that have a “++” in front of them, the are particularly recommended. ;-)

Saturday Events (25 May)

This Saturday and Sunday the Battle for the Bay will happen again on Dollymount Strand. It is a great beach-side event in Dublin and there are not many events at the beach! Perfect for a good-weather-day weekend. The Party in the Park is also happening. And also have a look at “Under One Tent”. It is a Ramadan celebration for everyone, no matter what your religion or level of religious-ness is. Quite different than other events, so worth checking out.
