———————————————————————

Hi all!

It is still cold out there, but the spring is definitely on its way. In 10 days it will formally have arrived and with a bit of luck days like yesterday will continue for a bit. However, no matter what the weather, the outdoor festival season is starting with a bang this week. What once was just a parade on 17 March has become a good festival with plenty of activities. Because St. Patrick’s Day is on a Wednesday this year, the festival is extra long and will run from today (Friday) until Wednesday. This year is the 15th (only!!!!) anniversary of the festival and it has improved year on year. A big disappointment is that even in the anniversary year the fireworks “Skyfest” will not be where the majority of the people are, but instead will be in Limerick. I don’t have anything against the people in Limerick, but with more than 1.5 million people in Dublin, I think it would make sense to have the Skyfest every second year in Dublin and visit the other locations only every other year. But, hey, it won’t change for this year, so let’s just enjoy all the other events!

Because of the St. Patrick’s Festival some other events are reduced or postponed and that makes a lot of sense. But I still found a load of other things for you to do. SO have good read of this week’s Event Guide.

During the week I did send a Special Event Guide that contained the Festival Calender for 2010 and it contained information about the upcoming “Breakthrough to Success” seminar. I explained that in my opinion this is a really good event where you learn a lot of things about setting goals and achieving them, something that many of us intend (New Year’s Resolutions??) but we keep having trouble with it every year. I have been at that event and think it is brilliant, but I understand that some of you are not that interested in it. That’s fine. However, there is the other component that I mentioned and that other component is that by registering for the event and by enrolling on Friday (18:00-19:30) or Saturday (09:30-17:30) you will help the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) because the organisers will provide a donation of EUR 1000 if 150 people register here www.breakthroughtosuccess.eu/?af=CLA1035324 and then enrol at the event. I got a mail during the week asking my why I promote this so much and, to be honest, apart from the fact that the seminar is in my eyes brilliant, I think I would do YOU a disservice if I didn’t do whatever possible to get this donation. Because if I do get it, the Event Guide is financially secured for a whole year. So, PLEASE help me! We are still not enough people. At least 40 more need to register and come. By the way, I am not telling you that you HAVE to stay at the event, it is completely your decision how long you stay once you have enrolled. For the avoidance of any misunderstanding: The reason why the 2.5 day seminar is free is because the organisers want to explain to you what they do in the non-free courses and will promote these non-free courses during the 2.5 days. The promoted courses are quite expensive and while I think they are very good, it is not my suggestion that you sign-up for any courses that you don’t need. I hope this clarifies! Oh and if you have already registered, PLEASE make sure that you come to the event. www.breakthroughtosuccess.eu/?af=CLA1035324

A HUGE thank you to all the messages to cheer me up after I left last week’s “Feel Good Slot” empty! It definitely helped and I got a number of suggestions for this slot from you. Thanks a lot! I will include these suggestions over the next few weeks here, and if you find more good videos, poems, stories etc, please let me know.

For this week’s “Feel Good Slot” I chose a video clip that Carry sent to me. Thanks Carry! It is very simple, just a song by singer/songwriter Brian Flynn. Listen to his “Song of Inspiration” and bring the message with you into next week. “For every cry of desperation…there is a song of inspiration and a light to show us how to carry on”.

Last week Kieran O’C, Alan S. and Orla K. helped the Dublin Event Guide with a donation! Thanks a lot! Every cent will be used for keeping the Event Guide going! If you like the Event Guide and want to help covering the cost, go to www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm or help for free by coming to the event that I mentioned in the introduction.

To keep this newsletter going in its current form and to improve the layout and readability your help is needed! You can donate as much as you want or can, but if you need some guidance, maybe consider just ONE Euro per month or – to make it more practical – a donation of 12 Euro per year (that is just 25 cent per newsletter).Over the last two years only about 2% of the subscribers have donated anything, so I definitely need YOU too to help me keeping this newsletter going.

You can donate using PayPal or your credit card by following this link to the PayPal donation page www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm if you want to transfer money to my bank, just drop me a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com and I will send you the details.

______Joerg’s Picks______________

This section is intended to provide some help in picking and choosing from the huge number of events by sharing with you what I will/might or would do. This is not a “best of…” list and if an event is not listed here, it by no means implies that the event is not interesting. Instead my “picks” are just based on my personal preferences. All events mentioned here are described in detail further down.

This week will be a busy week. On Saturday I already have some plans, but some friends of mine did the St. Patrick’s Festival Treasure Hunt before and dir recommend it. On Sunday I will definitely be at the Big Day Out. It is a great event and if the weather allows us it could be a great day. On Tuesday evening I can recommend the Céilí at Stephen’s Green. On Wednesday then, a public holiday, I might go to the Parade or go afterwards into the centre for a while. Enjoy the St. Patrick’s Festival!

______Competition______________

IRISH COIN CUFFLINKS – COMPETITION
The Irish Coin Cuffinks competition is closed now, but I wasn’t able to do the draw yet. I will do that during the week and will let you know the name of the winner next week. Have a look at www.irishcoincufflinks.com where you can buy cufflinks that are made of old Irish pence coins (5p, 10p) and of Irish flags or Celtic Shields. If you want to give the cufflinks as a present or want to show your connection with Ireland on your own shirt sleeves go to the website and you buy them there directly.

All events in this Competition Section are non-free events, but the organisers are making free tickets available for you to win. I usually get lots of competition entries and unfortunately not everybody can win, so even if you are not the winner, please consider going to an event to support the organisers. :-) If you don’t win, and will go to the event, please help showing the organisers that promoting their event in the Dublin Event Guide is beneficial and mention to them that you heard about the event through “Joerg’s Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)”. Thanks!

FARMLEIGH HOUSE RE-OPENS
Farmleigh House in Phoenix Park is Ireland’s most exclusive Bed&Breakfast. :-) Not because it is so amazing, but because you have to be the head of a country or similarly important to be allowed to stay there. It is the state’s accommodation for international guests of the government and in addition to that it is a wonderful estate that hosts many events during the year. Farmer’s Markets, Easter Events for children, Chrsitmas Events for Children, Movie Nights, Car Races in Phoenix Park and many other events all take place or at least involve Farmleigh House. Over the winter the Estate was closed for visitors, but on 11 March Farmleigh Estate, House, Farmleigh Gallery and Boathouse Cafe have re-opened again and can be visited for free. www.famleigh.ie

TEMPLE BAR DESIGNER MART BACK AFTER BREAK
After a winter break since Christmas the outdoor Designer Market in the Old Town area of Temple Bar (Cow’s Lane) is back again from this weekend. Every Saturday from 10:00-16:30 this Designer Mart will take place. Don’t miss it when you are in Temple Bar. And while you are there you should visit the International Food Market as well. It as well runs every Saturday from 10:00-16:30 in Temple Bar. You will find it on Meeting House Square. www.templebar.ie

NATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHIC ARCHIVE NOW BETTER ACCESSIBLE
And even more good news from the Temple Bar area: The National Photographic Archive at the entrance to Meeting House Square has changed the opening hours and is now a lot more accessible. It was originally open only until approx. 14:00 on a Saturday and was closed on a Sunday, but now the improved and significantly friendlier opening hours are Mon – Sat: 10:00-17:00 and Sun: 12:00-17:00. Great improvement. Have a look at the current exhibition ” Witness to War: the War of Independence and Civil War through the lens of WD Hogan”. www.nli.ie/en/photographs-introduction.aspx

SCIENCE SAFARI – TRINITY COLLEGE DUBLIN
Discover the engine that revolutionised the 20th century, the man who split the atom, the geologist who invented the humane hangman’s drop and, if time allows, a gem of a museum in an attic. These are just some of the treasures awaiting you on this self-guided trail of Trinity College Dublin (TCD). A brochure and an MP3 podcast file for this Science Safari Tour around TCD can be found here www.tcd.ie/visitors/sciencesafari/ Looks really interesting and I will try it out myself in the next few weeks!

LEPRECHAUN MUSEUM
A new museum with the grand title of “National Leprechaun Museum” is opening this month and expects so many visitors that they prefer to sell timed tickets. Cian McCormack from RTE who reported about it didn’t seem too impressed, but I haven’t seen it yet. www.rte.ie/news/morningireland/player.html?20100310,2715565,2715565,real,209 The website is definitely not giving any information away; not even the address can be found easily. The museum is in Twilfit House, 1 Jervis Street, Dublin 1 and going by the admission charges of EUR 10 for adults and EUR 7 for children, which is the same as the Wax Museum charges – that cost EUR 3 million to create -, the owners of the museum must be convinced that the Leprechaun Museum is absolutely brilliant. www.leprechaunmuseum.ie

FACE-PAINT SHAMROCKS FOR CHARITY
On St. Patrick’s Day the charity “Suas Educational Development” needs your help. Suas is looking for people that will paint shamrocks on the faces of visitors to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade for a donation to raise funds to give thousands of children the chance of a quality education and a step out of poverty. Suas Educational Development is a movement dedicated to supporting quality education in under resourced communities. Suas supports the education of over 13,000 children a year in Ireland, India and Kenya and by volunteering your time with Suas this St. Patrick’s Day you’re helping to change lives. All of the money that you raise will go directly to supporting long term education projects in Kolkata, India. Sign up at www.suas.ie Kitty O’S told me about this initiative.

LADIES GAELIC FOOTBALL TEAM
Clanna Gael GAA Ladies Gaelic are starting a new recreational Ladies team that will train once a week. If you are interested but never tried it before, don’t worry: The vast majority of participants will have very basic or no prior knowledge of the game. All rules will be explained and an emphasis will be on fun and enjoyment. If you would like to try out one of the most popular team sports in Ireland contact.
Eoin Vaughan, gaadev@tcd.ie (087 9460750) or Pat Kane , pat.kane2@gmail.com (086 3715944) It will be a very international team, you will improve your fitness, learn about Irish culture and sport in a relaxed environment and will have a lot of fun.

———Opportunities—————–

In order to beat an economic downturn not governments can help, but individuals are needed that take the initiative and to create new markets and new opportunities for themselves and for their customers and hopefully employees. The banks don’t help anymore, the government doesn’t want to help, so we have to help ourselves! The Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) will help you if you have recently started a company and if you could do with spreading the word. I hope being mentioned here and being seen by the 6000+ readers of the Event Guide will kick start something big for you. In return I expect you to tell your clients and friends about the Event Guide and once you have made a nice bit of money, a donation would be very appreciated. ;-) (This offer is for start-ups in relatively early stages only. Established companies can contact me regarding very affordable advertisement options in the Dublin Event Guide.) If you want to promote your start-up/young company here for free, let me know: dublineventguide@gmail.com.

Soon! I promise! :-)

______Exhibitions_______________

It is not a good development, but lately a number of galleries have closed their doors or are about to. I can think of the Origin Print Gallery (to close on 28 March), the Lemon Street Gallery and thisisnotashop and I am sure there are many more. It is natural that as a reaction to economic difficulties less art is bought, but serious reduction in galleries will not be good. So, even if you can’t buy something, show your support for the galleries and visit them to admire the art.

The festival schedule claims that it will be IN St. Stephen’s Green, but AA Roadwatch seemingly was told it will be on St. Stephen’s Green North, which is the street from Grafton Street to Baggot Street. “You can immerse yourself in Irish culture and craic throughout the festival but for the more adventurous, dance in the streets at the Festival Céilí – a contemporary outdoor celebration of traditional Irish dance. Come and join award-winning musicians and dancers from the four corners of Ireland.” About 3000 people are expected for this event, so come along and have fun dancing up and down the street Irish style! ;-) More detail here www.stpatricksfestival.ie/cms/events_ceili.html

ST. PATRICK’S DAY
On 17 March is St. Patrick’s Day the National Holiday in Ireland. The main event on the day is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Apart from that there is not toooo much happening once the parade is over. Traditionally it has been a day when alcohol was consumed from early on in large amount and for that reason the off-licence lawas have been changed a few years ago and open significantly later than before. St. Stephen’s Green will be closed for a large part of the day and you will see lots of Gardai all over the city. My experience is that not after midnight but already at around 23:00 some areas of the city centre become very messy with drunken people on the streets. Let’s hope that things are better this year and if you can help, please do so!
Pay and Display parking will not be enforced on this holiday, but make sure that you don’t park your car in bus lanes or on wheel-chair car park spaces.

ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE
The St. Patrick’s Festival Parade will take place on Wed 17 March. It will leave at 12:00 at Parnell Square and will then follow O’Connell Street, College Green, Dame Street to St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The route is relatively short and the amount of people will be HUGE. So if you want to be able to see something come really early. There is no perfect spot to see the parade and if you are in the 4th row in the crowd, you won’t see much that is happening on street level. Some people bring ladders and it is not a bad idea. If you are small, I have some good advise for you: Come EVEN earlier!! You will regret it otherwise! The parade has and still is improving year on year and if you have never seen it before, go for it! The Parade theme in 2010 is “Extraordinary World” and with lots of marching bands and dancers it nearly reminds you in some aspects of carnival. ;-) If the weather is not so good OR if you didn’t make it early enough and would end up behind a wall of people, you can watch the parade on TV or via live-stream on the RTE website.

ST PATRICK’S DAY FUN FAIR
In addition to the Fun Fair at Merrion Square and Wolfe Tone Square on Wed 17 March Custom House Quay will be closed to accommodate a Fun Fair. Motorists, please note that his closure will be in place from Tues 16 Mar 20:00 until Thurs 18 March, 06:00.

I have to admit that I had NO clue what saxifrages are, so I looked it up: It is a genus containing about 440 known species of Holarctic perennial plants, making it the largest genus in the family Saxifragaceae. TAXI DRIVER PROTEST – ONCE AGAIN
The taxi drivers were out protesting again and making life difficult for many many other people. This time traffic in the City Centre was severely disrupted and in the office of the Taxi Regulator two men staged a sit-in protest. The drivers are protesting over what they claim is the unfair regulation of the industry. Pat Walsh from Limerick and Tom Hanlon from Dublin had been in the building for a good few hours and were told by the High Court to leave it. What strikes me as odd is not that they protest but what one of the people staging the sit-ins gave as a reason. Tom Hanlon said people driving a taxi were entitled to earn a decent living and Minister Noel Dempsey would have to listen. The word that amazes me is “entitled”. If taxi drivers are entitled to earn a decent living, does that mean that all the 184,000 people that were made redundant in the last year are ENTITLED to earn a decent living as well? I guess so!? And can you imagine all the pub owners and Spar shop (etc.) owners? They will demand as well that the government will stop competitiors from running their business nearby!?!? www.rte.ie/news/2010/0309/taxi.html

It would help me if you told me in an e-mail why you decided to unsubscribe, but that is not a “Must”. If you only want to stop receiving the newsletter temporarily, you can – if you wish – discuss this with me by e-mail so that we find a solution that makes sense to you. If you unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of the mail and there is a chance that you – at some stage – want to re-subscribe, please make sure that you keep a mail with the “unsubscribe link” because I will not be able to add you anymore to the list once you have unsubscribed using this link. This Event Guide (the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)”) is an Event Guide with a difference. It covers mostly free events based on the thinking that free events deserve additional support and that non-free events have the money to pay for advertisement. The Guide is a _guide_ and not just a listing and is therefore at times quite extensive. It is sent for free to anybody who is interested and if you want to be added to the mailing list or know somebody who would like to receive this guide, just send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com with the Subject “Subscribe”.
If you have feedback – good or bad – PLEASE tell me via the same e-mail address.
BTW: I am not paid or otherwise rewarded for compiling and distributing this Event Guide it is purely a hobby so your donations are needed: www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm. Advertisement in or sponsorship of the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) is possible and very welcome, please contact me for more information.
Please note: The Dublin Event Guide (for Free Event) is not related or connected to the former fortnightly printed publication “the event guide” that you found until December 2008 in pubs and other venues.

Event Guide 142: Dublin Book Festival, Gravitation, Dance for Mary, Feminist Walking Tour + Film Festival

March 5th, 2010

———————————————————————
| DUBLIN EVENT GUIDE (for Free Events) No. 142
| 05 March 2010 Subscribers: 6005
———————————————————————

Hi all!

Have a look at the subscriber number! Another important milestone has been reached!! The Dublin Event Guide Community grew to 6000 subscribers and continues to grow week on week. I am thanking each and everyone of you, because not me but you are the promoters of the Event Guide. Don’t stop just yet! Keep telling your friends and colleagues about it. Check with your Social Club at work if they can include it in their mails to the members. Tell the people in your sports club, gym, choir, band, book club, knitting group or wherever else you talk to others about this weekly newsletter and suggest to them to send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com. Or help by hanging up and handing out fliers: www.perfectresults.info/event_guide_mini_flyers.pdf

www.perfectresults.info/event_guide_tear_off_poster.pdf

The goal is 10,000 and we are on track for achieving it next year. I remember when the list had grown to 1000 and I thought WOW! What do you think at 6000? Maybe WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW?? ;-) Wait until we reach 86,000. :-) But seriously: Just ONE of the Sunday newspapers has a distribution of approx. 260,000. If we assume that Dublin is 1/3 of the country in population, this means that there are approx. 86,000 readers for that single paper in Dublin. I don’t really expect that this Event Guide will grow so far, however it gives an indication of what a theoretical upper limit is! Ohh, and I can already promise you that we will have a MASSIVE party/festival for everybody when we reach 10,000. Keep spreading the word!

Last night I was at a great event organised by EYP Dublin. (European Young Professionals) There were lots of interesting and nice people and since it was the EYP birthday party we had the most delicious cupcakes. Claire, you have a talent! There were lots of cool prices and one of the prices was a book and a pair of tickets to the upcoming Christopher Howard event. If you were at the EYP event and didn’t win, I have something for you. ;-) I can’t give you the book, but I can give you as many tickets as you need to bring your friends and family to Christopher Howard’s “Breakthrough to Success” on 19-21 March in Dublin. www.breakthroughtosuccess.eu/?af=CLA1035324 IF you were not at the EYP even, you should have been! ;-) The next one will be on 08 April and I will tell you more about it when we come closer to that date.

This week’s “Feel Good Slot” will stay empty. I don’t feel too good! I have to “feel” the video clips or messages I put in here, they are not just any kind of positive message but they are selected with intent and meaning. This week, I don’t really feel them, so forgive me for skipping this section. Hopefully all will be better again next week.

Last week Soeren G., Sheila McC., Regina Q. and Marc F. helped the Dublin Event Guide with a donation! Thanks! Every cent will be used for keeping the Event Guide going! If you like the Event Guide and want to help covering the cost, go to www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm

You can transfer your donation directly to “Joerg Steegmueller, AIB, SortCode 93-36-78, AccountNo 03556043″ (pls send me a mail afterwards so that I can thank you!) or donate using PayPal or your credit card by following this link to the PayPal donation page www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm.

I am late again! Later than ever! It is because I went out last night. Hmmm, I guess I shouldn’t do that, but I had to get out for a while!
This week I plan to go to the Dublin Book Festival and the Gannon Cup Rowing Race on Saturday. On Sunday I will try to go to the “Dance for Mary” have a look at that (Sunday Section), many of you will remember Mary. The films at the Women’s Day Film Festival sound really interesting. Maybe I will manage to watch one.
During the week, I will be busy, but browse through the day sections and have a quick look at the headlines, there are some really interesting talks and lectures on!

______Competition______________

IRISH COIN CUFFLINKS – COMPETITION
Yes, this is a first. No event tickets and no book but still in the Competition section? Yes! :-) Brian from Irishcoincufflinks.com suggested that I run a competition for a pair of cufflinks and I think it is a brilliant idea! www.irishcoincufflinks.com is a website where you can buy cufflinks that are made of old Irish pence coins (5p, 10p) and of Irish flags or Celtic Shields. If you want to give the cufflinks as a present or want to show your connection with Ireland on your own shirt sleeves go to the website and you buy them there directly. The cufflinks look nice and I like the 5p one in particular. The coins are original coins that were in circulation until Ireland joined the Euro Zone.
If you want to win a pair of 5p coin cufflinks you have to send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com with CUFFLINKS in the subject of the mail. The body of the mail has to contain your name, your mobile phone number AND you have to tell me in what year Ireland joined the Eurozone. If you need help, check the PRODCUTS page on www.irishcoincufflinks.com Your mail has to be with me by Wed 10 March at 15:00.

MEDEA REDUX – PLAY IN AID OF WOMAN’S AID
On 08 March is Women’s International Day and to celebrate the occasion. Bluepatch Productions will perform a play/performance in aid of Women’s Aid. Bluepatch Productions had provided a pair of free tickets and the lucky winner is Felicity Williams. Congratulations!
If you are not Felicity but are interested in the play, check this this out: “Medea Redux” is the title and it is written by Neil LaBute. It will be performed (40 minutes) in The Boys School, Smock Alley, Temple Bar on 08 March at 13:10, 18:30 and 20:30. The play is about a woman’s confession of a forbidden relationship and more details can be found here in an article about a previous performance bluepatchproductions.wordpress.com/2009/08/06/medea-redux-by-neil-labute/ Tickets are 10 Euro and they are available at door or in advance via bluepatchproductions@gmail.com or 087 2694776.

Thanks!

______Dublin News______________

DUBLIN CITY SOUL FESTIVAL – RISING STARS
It is still a bit of time until the next Dublin City Soul Festival (27-30 May) will take place, but the team around the festival are already working hard on the next festival in May. The start is the search for this year’s best “Rising Star”.
The ‘Rising Stars’ event, designed to showcase the wide range of talented unsigned artists in Ireland and from around the world is expected to attract hundreds of entries from emerging artists. In 2009 submissions were received from many countries including Belize, Canada, Egypt, England, France, Ireland, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, Togo and the United States.
Solo artists, bands and musicians of all kinds who wish to showcase their music live on stage as part of the 4th Dublin City Soul Festival are invited to register at www.risingstars.ie where we all will get to experience their music and vote for our favourites. The Top 20 most popular artists will perform as part of a special show during Soul Fest 2010. Last year’s “Rising Stars” was won by the brilliant band “Mob Fandango”.

EASON TAKES OVER HUGHES & HUGHES AIRPORT SHOPS
After the surprise closure of the bookshop chain Hughes&Hughes (I have still a book voucher from that is worth nothing now.) after 26 years in operation, Eason have announced that they will take over the former Hughes&Hughes airport shops. It was always a surprise to me that Eason’s didn’t have any presence at the airport and with the take over of the shop license at the airport, they will retain up to about a half of the Hughes & Hughes employees. This development, however, probably means that the other Hughes & Hughes bookshops will remain closed for good. The airport shop license was seemingly the most valuable component of the remains of the closed down book chain. www.rte.ie/news/2010/0304/hughes.html

30 KM/H LIMIT TO STAY – AT LEAST FOR A WHILE
22 councillors thought that the speed limit in the City Centre should be modified and limited to some areas and 20 thought it should stay in all areas as it is now. But the 22 weren’t enough in the 52 member council and therefore the speed limit will stay as it is now. The next review will now be in July and who knows what the decision then will be. www.rte.ie/news/2010/0301/dublin.html

IRELAND IN TOP TEN OF FRIENDLIEST COUNTRIES
The Lonely Planet guide book lists Ireland along with the US, Malawi, Fiji, Thailand, Samoa, Vietnam, Indonesia, Scotland and Turkey in a list of the 10 friendliest countries. Interesting list!
Fáilte Ireland chief executive Shaun Quinn said “Over the years, our research has constantly found that the warmth and friendliness of our people, along with our green landscapes and scenery, are the biggest draws for overseas visitors” and the Irish Times interpreted that as “[Mr Quinn] said its latest “Visitor Attitudes” survey …, showed that the Irish people were the most significant advantage that distinguished Ireland from other holiday destinations.” Hmm, Quinn didn’t say “the Irish people” and I assume he is not only talking about people with Irish Nationality, but about “our people” as in everybody who is in Ireland and is in contact with tourists. After all the majority of employees in hotels etc seems to be non-Irish.

CHECK YOUR ATTIC AND YOUR CUPBOARD!
The Irish Times reports that a chinese vase with an asking price of just EUR 150 sold at a Co. Laois auction yesterday for EUR 110,000. Maybe we should all check our cupboards and attics for a “12-inch-high blue-and-white porcelain vase”?

———Opportunities—————–

In order to beat an economic downturn not governments can help, but individuals are needed that take the initiative and to create new markets and new opportunities for themselves and for their customers and hopefully employees. The banks don’t help anymore, the government doesn’t want to help, so we have to help ourselves! The Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) will help you if you have recently started a company and if you could do with spreading the word. I hope being mentioned here and being seen by the 5800+ readers of the Event Guide will kick start something big for you.

I better start working on some of the opportunities again. Hopefully nect week I can present the next company to you.

QUICKIE MASS IN GALWAY
Last week a message made the rounds: A parish in North Galway reported a tenfold increase in mass goers since they introduced a Quickie-15 min-Mass. The location is Kilconly and the priest who does these high-speed masses was interviewed in some newspapers. It turns out that the tenfold increase was not too difficult to achieve: Prior to the 15min mass he only had 3-4 people attending the mass. However, it still puzzles me why people would go to a 15 min mass but not to a standard 30-40 min mass. It makes you wonder what going to mass means to people. Are they maybe just going because they have a bad conscious if they don’t? I find it odd that there is an increase in attendance.

The weather forecast is looking good fro this weekend. So your “Feel Good Task” this week is to get out and to enjoy the still cold but brighter days. Go for a walk, meet a friend and just enjoy life! :-) Even if you don’t feel your best right now (and I can empathise), things could be a LOT worse! So be happy that they aren’t!
