———————————————————————

Hi all!

Did you have a good long weekend? I know it is a distant memory, but I could get used to bank holiday Mondays! I went to the Dundrum Shopping Centre on Monday and the amount of people there made you believe that Christmas was next week! Recession? Well, it certainly hasn’t arrived in Dundrum yet!

The current Doom & Gloom in the media about the end of the world (or worse!!) reminds me of someone I met a few years ago and who told me that he refuses to read a newspaper or watch the news. He said that he is happy, enjoys life, has no serious debts and enjoys a stable job and all the media wants to make him belief is that he should be worried stiff. While I don’t agree with him fully, I can see where he is coming from! For most of us not much has changed since the “global economic crisis” has hit “us” and (hopefully) most of us won’t be directly affected. The people that will be affected are not hit by the global crisis, but by redundancies etc which are a lot more immediate. So the dooms day panic is seriously counterproductive? “Fear” debilitates, lames and STOPS you from being creative, positive…and from enjoying life! I am not suggesting we should hide our heads in the sand, but maybe, just maybe we shouldn’t endorse the panic we taught constantly by TV, newspapers and radio
either!?

This Event Guide can’t solve any problems for you or for the world ;-) but hopefully it will help you to distract yourself from negativity at times and to enjoy some aspects of life by going to events, by enjoying talks, exhibitions, music. And since all this is available for free you can’t really go wrong! Oh, and do something nice for your friends and colleagues and give them a chance to enjoy the free events too! Tell them that they can subscribe to the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)” by sending a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com. And if you don’t want to explain all that to them, just forward this mail (click on the FORWARD link at the very bottom of this mail) to them and they can read it for themselves.

More than 2500 people are in our Dublin Event Guide Community by now!!!!! This is all thanks to you, because you promoted this newsletter already in the past, but the next goal is to reach 5000 people by October 2009 and I need your continued help for that! I will do my part and do my best to provide you with a comprehensive list (or close enough to it) of all free events in Dublin, can you give me a hand and let 3 of your friends or colleagues know?

—–
From next week I will send this newsletter in HTML format! Initially this will not change anything significant; the formatting will not change hugely. But over time I will add new layout features to beautify the Event Guide and to make it easier readable. Changing the format can, however, cause Spam Filters to get upset again and to classify this newsletter as Spam. So PLEASE check your Spam/Junk Folder next week (Friday 07 Nov) if you haven’t received the Event Guide by lunchtime!

Please note: This Event Guide is sponsored by Esme E., Cliodhna D., Brian L., Padraig S., Kathie S., Orla niF, Jef B. and www.stickyfingerstravel.com. The main sponsor is www.kravmagaireland.com, the self-defense training centre for everyone, which provides 12-week or 2-day self-defence training courses for beginners. I am grateful for the support! – If you think this Event Guide is useful to you and saves you money, please consider a donation too. If you want to help, please send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com with “Donation” in the subject and I will reply to you with a link to the PayPal website where you can donate via PayPal or Credit Card. Alternatively you can contact me to arrange another route for your donation. This Event Guide is a hobby project and NOT a commercial enterprise, so I do rely on donations.

A huge Thank You as well goes to Margaret Gallery who is sending me lots of Event Notices and who is key in arranging some current and upcoming competitions!

All events listed in this Event Guide are free of any admission charges or at least appear to be free unless otherwise stated. I try to find confirmation in all cases and do my best to double-check the information. However errors can happen and therefore no guarantee for correctness can be given.

FILM QUIZ BOOK – BOOK COMPETITION
The competition for a copy of the new “Film Quiz Book” by Michael Dwyer has been won by Sinead Lawton and Ruaidhri Devlin. Congrats!
The book will be sent to you. Liberties Press made this book available for the competition and for more details about all Liberties Press books check their website www.libertiespress.com and if you are interested in the Film Quiz Book, then you can find out more here (and order the book): www.libertiespress.com/index.php?option=com_cartage&main_page=products_all&disp_order=6

All events in this Competition Section are non-free events, but the organisers are making free tickets available for you to win. I usually get lots of competition entries and unfortunately not everybody can win, so even if you are not the winner, please consider going to an event to support the organisers. :-) If you don’t win, and will go to the event, please help showing the organisers that promoting their event in the Dublin Event Guide is beneficial and mention to them that you heard about the event through “Joerg’s Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)”. Thanks!

______Dublin News______________

Even more competitions this week! By the way, if you have a business or are working in a company and you have something product to give away in return for being mentioned in the hugely popular ;-) Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events), feel free to contact me to discuss!

AMERICAN ELECTION
Last week I mentioned that Nancy asked if there are any get-togethers in Dublin to watch the TV coverage for the US Presidential Election together. I did investigate and got help from Maureen G., Dan B., Jim H. and Kate F. and this is the story: There will be an official invite-only event organised by the US Embassy. In addition the “Democrats Abroad” have a members-only event in Café en Seine (5 Euro). However this event is already oversubscribed from the members alone and therefore non-members unfortunately can’t get in. However, since Café en Seine (Dawson Street) is open for other business as well that evening, there is a good chance that they show the election coverage on their TV screens throughout the pub. In that case you could meet there as well and have a separate get-together. Unfortunately all pub based events are subject to pub closing times, so just when the election reports get really interesting, you will be kicked out of Café en Seine. Maybe it would make more sense
to meet at home? If there are a number of people interested I am happy to make contact. Send me a mail /dublineventguide@gmail.com) if you want to meet people that evening with the Subject “Election” and I will pass on your e-mail address to the others who want to meet up as well.
A completely different type of event is the “Leviathan: Political Cabaret – US Presidential Election Special” which involves David McWilliams and takes place in the Button Factory in Temple Bar (former Temple Bar Music Centre) on Tue 04 Nov 2008 from 20:00. Admission is 25 Euro and more information can be found www.leviathan.ie. Live coverage from the US will be provided there as well.

LET’S WALK AND TALK
Are you looking to meet people and find out more about Dublin and have some time during the day? Then the regular “Let’s walk and Talk” meetings might be perfect for you. Dublin City provides six different regular walks (two of them are even in the evening). You should have a look at: www.dublincity.ie/COMMUNITY/LET%27S%20WALK%20AND%20TALK/Pages/WalkandTalk.aspx

PINT & PICTURE AND CINE CAFÉ
Howard Linnane (086-3614787) is inviting everybody to his “Pint & Picture Show” and his Cine Café. Both events will take place on Mondays from 19:30 in alternating weeks. Check with Howard to find out which week it is.
Both events are free film screenings in “Toast” in Rathmines (near the clock tower), however the difference between the two events is this:
Pint & Picture consists of a full-length film (feature or documentary) preceded by some Irish short films. When possible there is an informal Q&A session with one of the filmmakers whose work is being screened on the day, immediately after their film is shown.
Cine Café consists of a first half which features a pre-selected set of short films – most of which have been shown at film festivals – and in the second ‘Potluck’ half of the event, short films submitted there and then by members of the audience from their own work may also be screened (DVD only ). No feature-length films will be shown as Cine Café is a ‘shorts-only’ event.

MOVING WORLDS: CINEMAS OF MIGRATION
Part II of Moving Worlds: Cinemas of Migration runs from 16 October – 20 November, 2008. In this second series, the programme includes a range of dramatic and documentary stories about migration: from the lived realities of family reunification, to cultural expressions produced within immigrant youth cultures, or the complex power relations associated with human trafficking, in addition to the comparative histories of labour migration across Europe, and more.
Moving Worlds is an initiative of the Forum on Migration and Communications (FOMACS, School of Media, Dublin Institute of Technology) in association with the Goethe-Institut, Instituto Cervantes, L’Alliance Francais and the Austrian Embassy.
Admission is free and open to all: To reserve a place for the screenings please contact series co-ordinator Dr Rashmi Sawhney, Centre for Transcultural Research and Media Practice, Dublin Institute of Technology, Aungier Street, Dublin 2. Email: rashmi.sawhney@dit.ie, tel: 01-4023108
The third film in this series is “It Happened Just Before” by Anja Salomonowitz. Utilising an unusual documentary approach, this Austrian film examines the real stories of women victimised by human trafficking, where ordinary places serve as backdrops for what can be considered modern slavery. First-person narratives are read by a customs officer, a neighbour, a bartender in a brothel, a diplomat, and a taxi driver-people not directly involved in the women’s tragic destinies but, as the film suggests, may have played roles in them. Fredericc Fichefet, Editor and Denise Charlton, Director of Immigrant Council of Ireland will participate in a discussion following the film.
The screening (German with English subtitles) is taking place at 18:00 in the Instituto Cervantes – Café Literario in Lincoln House, Lincoln Place, Dublin 2 (at the back of Trinity College near to the National Gallery). dublin.cervantes.es/FichasCultura/Ficha52025_16_2.htm

SANTA CLAUS ARRIVING PREMATURELY!!
This is just too early and I rather kept it quiet, but I guess it is my duty as a “reporter” to tell you about this as well: Santa Claus got confused and the people In Dundrum Shopping Centre weren’t helpful in clearing up the confusion. On Thurs 06 Nov Santa Claus will arrive in Dundrum Town Centre to switch on the Christmas lights, and open this year’s brand new Christmas grotto! The festivities will begin at 18:00 on Town Square adjacent to the Mill Pond with the Dublin Gospel Choir and hot chocolate and mince pie treats to keep you warm while you wait! MC Lorcan Murray from RTE Radio1 and RTE Lyric FM will make sure Santa arrives safely (they should have told him that he is too early!!!!!). Once Santa arrives, he will switch on the magical Christmas Lights, and start getting ready to meet boys and girls of all ages! For more information please contact the Customer Service Desk on 01 2991740. All I feel about this is that it is commercialism in the purest form!

______This is odd!!______________

There are many odd things around us and I guess I only have to mention “Irish politics” to create a Pavlov reflex. ;-) But a lot of the odd things are not worth reporting about in THIS newsletter, so I will turn this category into an irregular feature and will replace it from next week with a “Great Deals” category. “Great Deals” will be good priced or otherwise advantageous solutions for things like international phone calls, bonus schemes etc. I am not sure yet if that will become a permanent feature, but let’s see!
_______________________________

Hurray, I am finished somewhat earlier than usual, that means I will get some sleep tonight (often there is no sleep for me on Thursday nights/mornings because I have a day-job that seamlessly takes over once I have the Event Guide finished). A nice change! :-)

I am looking forward to all the new subscribers that – with your help – will contact me in the coming week and hope that you will have a great weekend and a good new week.

Enjoy life, it is not as bad as the media is trying to tell you!

Event Guide 71: Electronic Arts Festival, Red Line Festival, Hallowfest, Halloween Parade, French Friday, Dublin Marathon

———————————————————————

Hi all!

Time is flying when you are having fun! :-) But seriously: Bad enough that the years just fly by and if you blink at Christmas one year it is December of the next year when you open your eyes. Now it even seems that the time between Thursday nights is getting shorter and shorter. Maybe it has something to do that last weekend I was for 3 days or 39 hours (!!!) at the Chris Howard “Breakthrough to Success” Seminar. I had mentioned it here a few times before and many of you had registered for it, but not tooo many did come and even less held out the whole three days.

A lot of people have asked me about the seminar before and since and for everyone who is curious, here is my thinking after this year’s seminar: I STILL think that it is brilliant and hugely inspirational and I entirely enjoyed the three days. When I did the course the first time, I thought EVERYONE should do it and was wondering how anybody could NOT enjoy it, but this time I realised that you a) need a lot of stamina, b) need to be determined to go through to the end (there is always something better to do, c) need to be interested and positive about personal development (if there is nothing to improve in your life you won’t enjoy it ;-) ) and d) need to start on the Friday (anybody who I know and who thought skipping the Friday should be fine, did fail to reach the end of the course).

The next seminar with Chris Howard is in on 13-15 March 2009 and I still recommend anybody – who fulfils the above criteria ;-) – to go. But last weekend I realised that – for varied reasons – people do or might choose to deviate from the criteria above and then you will most likely not enjoy the course. If you are interested in the seminar let me know and I can tell you lots more or you can register here
www.breakthroughtosuccess.eu/?af=CLA1035324. (The 3-day seminar is completely free and while the organisers promote their other courses, the “commercials” are not more intrusive than RTE TV commercials.) If you don’t think this is your thing, then don’t worry, BUT if I meet you, it could still happen that I tell you about it. :-) Stop me if you don’t want to know. :-P

Since I am using now iContact to send this newsletter, thanks to Patrick Cumiskey’s (www.kravmagaireland.com) sponsoring, I will attempt to change the format and the formatting this mail over time. So within the next two weeks or so, the mail will be sent in HTML (slightly more formatted) instead of in text format. The difference will be tiny, so don’t expect anything yet. However, over time I hope to add new layout features bit by bit, but only if my time allows. It will create a lot more work and I don’t know yet if I will be able to do more.

______Dublin News______________

With soooo many brilliant competitions this week, I will keep the “Dublin News” a little shorter. By the way, if you have a business or are working in a company and you have something product to give away in return for being mentioned in this Dublin Event Guide, feel free to contact me to discuss!

COSY PUBS WITH FIRE
Last week I listed a looong list of pubs with fire places. Many of you had sent suggestions because Simon C has asked for help to find cosy pubs with fire places. Simon sends his THANKS to all of you! ..and he did offer a pint in return for all the help, but I am not sure if that was intended for EVERYBODY who helped. ;-)
Ohh, a number of you sent a correction: “Polly Hops” in Newcastle is not anymore! It did burn down and got demolished afterwards. Thanks to Will M, Stephen T and Walter F for that information. Will instead suggested
- Laurels in Clondalkin
They have an open fire in the lower lounge and life music Tues, Thus, Fri + Sun.
And Stephen was wondering if “open fire” maybe is an understatement – considering the events? ;-)

AMERICAN ELECTION
The American Presidential Election is around the corner and while things look bright for Barrack Obama, I wouldn’t count my chicken yet. Everything can still happen. To make sure that she doesn’t miss the event and can enjoy it together with other nice people, Nancy sent me a mail and asked if I knew of any venues where people will gather to watch the Election. I guess that due to the licence laws it would have to be a private party or a “lock-in” as otherwise you will be kicked out by 02:30!? Does anybody have any suggestion for events in election night? Send them to me (dublineventguide@gmail.com) with the Subject “Election”

IRISH MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART (IMOCA) – OFFICIAL LAUNCH
I found this event pre-announcement: “The Irish Museum of Contemporary Art (IMOCA) is officially launching their new site/location at 90 Jamestown Road, Dublin 8. The launch is on Friday 07 November 2008. The opening ceremony will be held at IMOCA’s new premises from 18:00-22:00. IMOCA is located a short walk from the Blackhorse Luas stop. For more details visit:www.imoca.ie.”
I had a look at the website and I am not sure if this “Irish Museum” is – like the National Gallery or like the Irish Museum of Modern Art OWNED and funded by the state or not. In addition I am not too sure where “Contemporary Art” in the IMOCA and “Modern Art” in the IMMA are differentiated. We will hopefully get lots of answers, but the reason for mentioning it in this category is just to let you know that a new museum will open soon and you will then most likely read announcement about exhibitions here. …and if you want to come to the Opening, then do so!, every one is welcome. imoca.ie/imoca2/?p=73

WILD STRAWBERRY FILM CLUB – IFI
For the more grown-up ;-) members of the Dublin Event Guide Community this might be interesting: The Wild Strawberry Film Club of the IFI (Eustace Street, Temple Bar, D2) is providing free films for older people: “Wild Strawberries is our monthly film club for older people. PRE-HISTORY OF THE CRISIS – PROJECT ARTS CENTRE
From 23 October until 29 November 2008 thus show could not be more timely.
As Ireland heads into recession in 2008, cultural and socio-political relationships are beginning to tighten. The open and relatively inclusive web of Irish and migrant workers formed the bedrock beneath the economic boom. But as the stones begin to shift beneath our feet, where will discontent arise and how will Ireland cope with an upsurge of nationalism?
The Prehistory of the Crisis attempts to broach these issues before the period of crisis has hit, at a time when art can have a discreet yet potent voice.
An exhibition project in two parts, The Prehistory of the Crisis begins with an international exhibition at Project Arts Centre in October 2008. The exhibition brings together four artist and artist partnerships from the Netherlands, France, Germany and Serbia, who will all be exhibiting for the first time in Ireland. Each of the works have been produced in relation to the power displacement experienced by both citizens and civil servants, the nebulous group of subjects variously called ‘new nationals’, ‘migrants’ or ‘non-nationals’, and migrants without the right to work, ‘sans papiers’.
Aernout Mik’s video installation Training Ground, Patrick Bernier & Olive Martin’s film MANMUSWAK, Jeanne Faust & Jörn Zehe’s film sonst wer wie du (who else like you), and Andrijana Stojkovic’s film HOME all hone in on individual responses to conditions: the pieces are variously referential of particular situations, but they all activate within us some sort of responsibility for coming to a an autonomous awareness of the complexity of otherness and the complications of ‘living with others’.
The second part of the project, The Prehistory of the Crisis (II) is scheduled for July 2009.
(Venue Details: Project Art Centre, 39 East Essex Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 2, www.project.ie, Open: Mon-Fri 10:00-18:00)

THE WITCHES – IFI FILM SCREENING
On Saturday 25 October at 12.00, Lights Out! presents a Halloween treat for the whole family in the Irish Film Institute (6 Eustace Street, Temple Bar, D2). Before the film you are invited to pumpkin carving and face painting and – importantly – anyone who comes in costume gets in the film for free!
Adapted from Roald Dahl’s darkly comic tale, The Witches was brought to screen by director Nic Roeg (Performance, Don’t Look Now and The Man Who Fell To Earth) and Muppetmaster Jim Henson, who provided the special effects.
On vacation in England, young Luke and his grandmother have just checked into a hotel. Also on the premises is the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, an organisation that hides the fact that its members are really evil-minded, mask-wearing, child-hating witches! They have gathered to discuss a most fiendish plot: to turn all children into mice by feeding them poisonous chocolate. Discovering this, it is up to the Luke and his grandmother to stop them killing every child in England. Angelica Huston shines as the Grand High Witch.

It will be the fifth in a series of collaborative projects by the collective. On this occasion Projector Collective features John Carter, Jay Roche, Anthony Kelly and David Stalling.

———Monday————————–

DUBLIN MARATHON
The 29th Dublin Marathon will take place on Mon 27 Oct and will start at 09:00. The start will be in Fitzwilliam Square East and the finish will be in Merrion Square West. The course is mapped out here adidasdublinmarathon.ie/general_course.php. If you are not participating ;-) support the runners by cheering them on OR alternatively avoid the whole City area between 08:00 and 17:00 when the last walkers will be expected back.

ALL IRELAND ELVIS COMPETITION – DUNDRUM TOWN CENTRE
On the Bank Holiday Monday 27 Oct the Dublin leg of the Paddy Power All Ireland Elvis Competition (in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland) is taking place at Dundrum Town Centre. Since there is no better Elvis Performer than Kevin Doyle and since I am totally non-biased on this (I just sing in Kevin Doyle’s backing choir!) ;-) , I am not sure what the purpose of this event is, but here is what the organisers say:
“All Elvis hopefuls are encouraged to arrive at Dundrum Town Centre and compete for a coveted spot in the final. Entry is free to anyone over the age of 18 and the eventual winner will be granted a wildcard entry to the All Ireland Elvis competition, the winner of which will represent Ireland in an International Elvis competition in Memphis in 2009. There will also be some guest Elvis performances to encourage those hoping to impress the judges!
The final of the search for Ireland’s best Elvis is the headline event at the Paddy Power sponsored Bundoran Elvis Festival, which takes place in the Great Northern Hotel in Bundoran between 31 October and 02 November. (For more information visit www.lasbundoran.com.)” Unfortunately the organisers didn’t specify when and where the event is taking place, but it seems from information I found elsewhere that it is taking place from 14:00 at or near the Mill Pond.

PINT & PICTURE AND CINE CAFÉ
Howard Linnane (086-3614787) is back with his weekly film screenings! After a re-grouping and after finding a new venue, Howard is inviting everybody to his “Pint & Picture Show” and his Cine Café. Both events will take place on Mondays from 19:30, however they will take place in alternating weeks. Check with Howard to find out which week it is. In addition, check with him to find out if the event will take place on the Bank Holiday.
Both events are free film screenings in “Toast” in Rathmines (near the clock tower), however the difference between the two events is this:
Pint & Picture consists of a full-length film (feature or documentary) preceded by some quality Irish short films. When possible there is an informal Q&A session with one (or more) of the filmmakers whose work is being screened on the day, immediately after their film is shown.
Cine Café consists of a first half which features a pre-selected set of short films – most of which have been shown at film festivals – and in the second ‘Potluck’ half of the event short films submitted there and then by members of the audience from their own work may also be screened (dvd only pls). No feature-length films will be shown as Cine Café is a ‘shorts-only’ event.

REGULAR MONDAY EVENTS
* From 21:30 in the International Bar in Wicklow Street: An acoustic singer-songwriter session hosted by Jacqueline Tuck. Entry is free. The music styles vary from pop to folk to traditional. www.myspace.com/jacquelinetuck

———Tuesday————————

There are no height or dress size restrictions and we’d love to meet ladies with the right confidence to make it as a successful commercial model. If it’s not you, then maybe it’s your mum, your sister, niece, auntie or even your best friend!
12 semi-finalists will be chosen at the Dundrum Town Centre heat by 3 judges. The panel of judges are 1st Options Models Managing Director Julian Fallon, Peter Mark Supremo Gary Kavanagh, and Celebrity Figure Gillian Quinn. The 12 semi-finalists will take part in challenges and a final 4 will be selected by the 3 judges. The overall winner will be selected by The Afternoon Show viewers. The competition will be televised and will receive promotion through press and radio. www.dundrum.ie/happening.asp?nid=552

At this time of unprecedented turmoil in the financial world, coinciding with Ireland’s decision to say no to reform of the European Union, many questions are being raised about how globalisation can be managed in the interests of the peoples of the world, and what positive role if any, the EU ca play in the process.
Organised by the European Socialist Group and the Labour Party, the principal speakers will be: Will Hutton, Chief Executive of The Work Foundation, London; Fintan O’Toole, Irish Times journalist and critic.
The conference will be opened by Eamon Gilmore TD, Labour Party Leader.

UNACCEPTABLE HARM – FILM SCREENING
27 October until 02 November 2008 is the Global Week of Action to Ban Cluster Bombs. The Global Week of Action takes place one month before the Oslo Signing Conference on 03 December 2008, where more than 100 governments are expected to sign the new Convention on Cluster Munitions that bans the use, production, transfer and stockpiling of cluster bombs.
The Cluster Munition Coalition Ireland is organising a film screening of “Unacceptable Harm” – a documentary by Chris Anderson. The film documents the lasting legacy that the use of cluster munitions has had in eight of the countries where they have been used. It demonstrates the long term suffering caused for affected families and communities and the devastating developmental consequences.
The screening will take place on Wed 29 Oct at 18:00 in Filmbase, Temple Bar, Dublin. The film screening will be preceded by speeches by: Nicholas Twist, Deputy Director, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Section, Department of Foreign Affairs;
Colm O’Gorman, Director, Amnesty International Ireland; Barbara Raftery, Afri.
A public action will take place outside the venue.
The Global Week of Action is a week dedicated to promote awareness of the treaty and the historic occasion of the signing of the Convention on Cluster Munitions. We are calling on the Irish government to continue the leadership it showed during the Dublin negotiations by encouraging other nations to sign the treaty when it is opened for signature in Oslo in December.
I couldn’t find clear information about the admission cost for the screening, so there is a possibility that it is not free. Please contact Susan Hensel on susan@stopclustermunitions.org or on 01-860 3431. www.stopclustermunitions.org

FILM SCREENING – INSTITUTO CERVANTES
The Spanish Cultural Institute in Dublin invites regularly to interesting talks and film screenings. All talks and screenings are usually in Spanish but translation into English or subtitles (for films) will be provided.
On 29 Oct at 18:30 the film ” En el corazón de la tierra (The Heart of the Earth)” will be screened. In 1888 a powerful English company operates for over 30 years the millennial mines of Riotinto in Huelva. Blanca Bosco, a nine-year old, and her inseparable English friend Kathleen, niece of a British executive, witness the miserable working conditions in the mines. These, abundant with juvenile workers, are terribly affected by air contamination and acid rain that devastates the region. The crops, livestock, trees and rivers, and especially the health of children, elderly people, women and men, are endangered permanently by the toxic fumes that make the air unbreathable and destroy the land. The arrival of Maximiliano, a revolutionist who Blanca falls in love with, brings back the hope in the village.
This film is in Spanish with English subtitles. dublin.cervantes.es/FichasCultura/Ficha51781_16_2.htm. The Instituto Cervantes is in Lincoln House, Lincoln Place, Dublin 2 (at the back of TCD near the National Gallery).

BOOK LAUNCH – “HAUNTED DUBLIN” BY DAVE WALSH
Dave Walsh sent me an e-mail to invite you all to the (free) launch party for his book “Haunted Dublin”. On Thurs 30 Oct from 18:00 a Halloween Launch Party at the Dice Bar, Queen St., Dublin 7 is taking place. Booze, books, costumes and mayhem! Outlandish outfits recommended! More information about his book and a map to the party venue can be found here:
www.blather.net/blather/2008/10/haunted_dublin_chilling_accounts_of_the.html. “Haunted Dublin” is a chilling account of the supernatural in the city. It gathers together in one succinct volume, well-known legends with rare and chilling accounts of the supernatural in the city. With poltergeists and apparitions, lore, myth and the downright scary, this fascinating work will delight and unsettle those brave enough to explore this hidden world. Dublin is the perfect haunted city, with its narrow cobbled streets concealing layers of interwoven history and folklore, left behind by generations of Viking, Norman and Irish inhabitants. Walking through the streets on a dark October evening, as Halloween or Samhain grows closer and the moon slips behind some flimsy clouds, the ‘other world’ seems closer, more tangible.
Haunted Dublin brings together the city’s most infamous hauntings with stories that have never before been seen in print, including some of the author’s own chilling experiences. Meet phantom dogs in Dublin’s suburbs, black cats and Satanists in the Dublin Mountains, and the headless ghost of Buck Jones, which haunts the streets around Croke Park.

What is happening this week! This is the longest Event Guide ever! And I thought we are approaching the quiet period of the year!?!?! I hope nobody will complain that there is not enough free stuff going on in Dublin. :-))))
Don’t forget that Monday is Bank Holiday AND don’t forget that on Sunday morning at 03:00 the clock will go BACK to 02:00, so you have an hour longer to sleep (or to party!) :-)
It is normal for bank holiday weekends to be less busy than other weekends, but there is still lots to do, so if the weather is half way ok, do get out at least for a few hours!

Enjoy the weekend!
