I mentioned last week that I have some great news for you and I am really happy about it. It was a long time coming and while a basic version has been available for a while, I am today formally launching the website http:\/\/www.dublineventguide.com<\/p>\n

The e-mail newsletter\/e-zine will definitely remain as the main publication. It is the fastest way and the most direct way for you to find out about all free events in Dublin. The website will complement this. If you don’t have your e-zine copy available, you can go to http:\/\/www.dublineventguide.com and find exactly the same information.<\/p>\n
The Regular Events are listed on a separate page as well and there is a searchable archive of all 204 Event Guides since I started writing this weekly newsletter in 2007.<\/p>\n
The website launch is not the end of a process, but is the mid-point. I am not a web developer, so it is not (yet) perfect because I did all the work myself, but you probably know, it is better to make a step and correct it than to wait until all is perfect before you venture forward. People that wait until all “ducks are in a row” often wait forever, because these ducks are astonishingly resistant to be put in a row. ;-)<\/p>\n
So, the website still needs a LOT of improvement and your comments are invited! One thing that is EVEN more difficult than in this e-mail is the formatting of the newsletter itself. What you find on www.dublineventguide.com is more basic than this e-mail with no headlines for the different days etc. (For the technically astute people: It is a limitation that is partly caused by WordPress and partly by my process for writing this long newsletter.) But I am sure that I will be able to find solutions for these limitations going forward. (and if you can help, let me know!)<\/p>\n

And more great news: The Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) now has a logo as well! It is a first draft and improvements are necessary for the logo as well, but I finally made a step forward in that area as well. Bit by bit, this logo will be improved (help is appreciated!) and will then give the Dublin Event Guide a stronger and recognisable identity.<\/p>\n
And on top of all that: The Dublin City Soul Festival was – many years ago – one of these great but under-visited free events that got me to start this Dublin Event Guide. This has changed completely and the Festival has experienced massive growth over the last 4 years. This year is the 5th year and I am very happy to work closely with Chris Maher and his team to spread the word about the Dublin City Soul Festival. You will find the new Dublin Event Guide logo in the programme for the Soul Festival! ;-) \u2026and I promised the Soul Festival team that all 8500+ of us will come to the Soul Picnic on 29 May. If I had more time I would consider as well the Storytelling Playschool on Sat and the Donegal Showcase on Sunday.<\/p>\n From Monday Africa Week (instead of Africa Day) starts with many events. On Wednesday the New Music concert by the Contemporary Music Centre, sounds interesting. The Towel Day is some whacky fun and the Brownbread Mixtapes are on again. \nOn 26 May the ArtPolonia invites to a concert of Hasidic Klezmer music and free, improvised jazz in the Button Factory. “Ha-Tichona” (Hebrew for. inner ear), a new musical project by three international giants of contemporary free jazz. HA-TICHONA is building a connection between the Hasidic music with free, improvised jazz. The goal of the project is restoring music\u2019s basic role which is connecting community in spiritual and mystical experience. The performers are Miko?aj Trzaska \u2013 sax, bass clarinet (Poland), Olie Brice- double bass (Israel, Great Britain), Mark Sanders- drums (Great Britain). \nOn 29+30 May 2011 the IHF (Irish Hairdressers Federation) in conjunction with the OMC (Organisation Mondial Coiffure) will host the OMC European Championships 2011. Visitors to the two day event will see some of the Worlds leading hair & beauty experts demonstrating key trends and sculpting, teasing and styling hair into stunning works of art. It is a unique opportunity for visitors to watch the Worlds most creative battle it out for the title of OMC European Cup Champion 2011. More than 5000 hair and beauty experts from over 40 countries are expected at the event. In addition, visitors will be wowed by spectacular body painting from world class artist’s competing for top class honours. Make-up artists and nail technicians will also compete for titles within bridal, editorial and fantasy categories.
