Every summer there is one song that should be played at least once in Dublin: “Summer in Dublin” by Bagatelle. Written in 1980 and released in 1998, it captured a version of the city so well that much of it still feels familiar more than four decades later.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

One important detail has finally been overtaken by history. The famous 46A bus is gone and has been replaced by the E2. Bus routes and their names change, but somehow “Summer in Dublin” with the E2 would not have quite the same ring to it.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

Some of you will immediately start humming the song. Others might have no idea what I am talking about and may never even have heard of Bagatelle. That would be a pity because the song is more than an old Irish hit.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

It is a little piece of Dublin culture and with the summer weather continuing, now seems like the right time for its annual Dublin Event Guide appearance.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\nThe Irish government is not necessarily known for their progressive approach to day to day issue. They much rather ban and restrict than provide innovative solutions.
\nLast week suddenly they were talking about banning electric scooters because there were some accidents with children ending up in hospitals. It took many years to get scooters legalised and considering that we are all told that the future of transport is electric, that legalisation was the right path. Before 2024, scooters were illegal, but did that make much of a difference?

+++ Liberties Festival
\nThis year’s Liberties Festival will run from Monday 20 July until Sunday 26 July. There are lots of events, but most need booking at are booked out. I have included a range of events in the listings above that seem to be for mainly for events that do not need pre-booking. Please note that I didn’t check all events, so have a look and you should find some more free events that are not filled up yet.

+++ The Day The World Rocked: Live Aid – Guided Tour <\/strong>
\nEvery Friday at 14:00 and every Saturday at 11:00 a guided tour of the National Photographic Archive Exhibition “The Day The World Rocked: Live Aid” will take place. Live Aid was a world wide event in 1985 when two concerts took place simultaneously in London and Philadelphia with the intention to collect money to feed the world. Many of the greatest Pop and Rock performers of the time took part, from Status Quo to Joan Baez, Queen to Phil Collins and U2 to Madonna. Discover images and stories from Live Aid donated by Bob Geldof to the National Library of Ireland.
\nThe exhibition is in the National Photographic Archive at Meeting House Square in Temple Bar and it is open every day from 10:00-16:00. https:\/\/www.nli.ie\/exhibitions-events\/day-world-rocked-live-aid<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ Humanarium at RCSI – Heart Exhibition<\/strong>
\nCheck out the brand new “Humanarium” at RCSI, 118 St. Stephen’s Green, Dublin 2 It is an exhibition space that will make health sciences and medical research more accessible and will help us to learn how to live longer, healthier and happier lives.
\nThe exhibition space and the cafe that comes with it are open from 07:30-16:30 from Monday to Friday and 10:00-15:00 on Saturdays.
\nThe current exhibition is called “Heart: more than a beat” and is suitable for everyone, no medical background needed! If you have a heart, this exhibition is for you! ;-) https:\/\/www.humanarium.ie\/<\/a><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

? +++ Seamus Heaney: Listen Now Again – Daily Tour<\/strong>
\nFrom Monday to Saturday every day at 11:30 and 14:00 a tour of the “Seamus Heaney: Listen Now Again” exhibition will take place in the Bank of Ireland Culture & Heritage Centre, College Green, Dublin 2, D02 VR66. Booking is not required. https:\/\/www.nli.ie\/exhibitions-events\/daily-tours-seamus-heaney-listen-now-again-0<\/a>
\nSeamus Heaney (1939-2013) was an Irish poet, playwright and translator. He received the 1995 Nobel Prize in Literature. Heaney was born in Northern Ireland and lived in Sandymount, Dublin4 from 1976 until his death.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ Dublin Castle & Chester Beatty Museum closed until January<\/strong>
\nFrom 05 May, Dublin Castle, Ireland’s most popular tourist attraction will be closed because of the EU Presidency until 31 December 2026. And from 15 June, the Chester Beatty Museum will also close until January.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ Dublin City Council Culture Company<\/strong>
\nEvery week, the Dublin City Council Culture Company organises cultural events in venues in Dublin. They are events in addition to the normal events in museums, galleries and other venues. All events are free, but access is by registration only. And these events are POPULAR!! So when I get to checking them out on the Friday before they take place, the most interesting ones are usually already booked out. +++ IKEA Crafting \/ Music \/ Cooking Workshops<\/strong>
\nIkea in Ballymun runs a variety of crafting, music and cooking workshops it is always worh checking out. The workshops are free and usually go for 45 minutes. They are always for children, but the age is often not fixed. There are specific Toddler and baby workshops at times as well.
