Another Friday night and for the next 12 hours I will search for events across hundreds of websites and pages. Filtering the free from the non-free events and then capturing the essential information to share it with thousands of subscribers, website visitors and Facebook followers. Week after week, the same ritual.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

It is all done without pay and with the hope that I can make a small difference to Dublin’s cultural life by match-making an appreciative audience with the hard-working organisers who create all these free events across the city.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

This is edition No. 972. That means I have been doing this for 19 years. The birthday of the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) was on 1 June 2007.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Long-term readers know that it all started with an email to ten friends and then somehow got completely out of control. Twenty-four thousand subscribers and 83,000 Facebook followers later, we are still here.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

I don’t often talk about the Dublin Event Guide itself, but this week I was reminded that nothing lasts forever. The Phoenix magazine, the Irish political and current affairs publication that has been around since 1983, announced that it will close its doors after 43 years. That’s a remarkable achievement and a reminder that every publication eventually reaches a point where the journey ends.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

I can’t promise that I will still be compiling the Dublin Event Guide in another 24 years’ time. But as long as there are people who find it useful, who read it, share it, support it and turn up at the events, I’ll be here for a while yet.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

? +++ Dublin Pride Festival 2026<\/strong>
\nThe Dublin LGBTQ+ Pride Festival 2026 will take place from 24-28 June and will culminate in the Pride Parade on Saturday 27 June (from 12:30-14:30). It will go from O’Connell Street to Merrion Square, which is called “Pride Square 2”.
\nFor the first time this year, the Pride Square 1 will be at Meeting House Square in Temple Bar and it will run from Wednesday until Friday.
\nThroughout the week, already from 20 June, lots of events will take place and they are all listed at https:\/\/dublinpride.ie\/events\/<\/a><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\nEvery week, the Dublin City Council Culture Company organises cultural events in venues in Dublin. They are events in addition to the normal events in museums, galleries and other venues. All events are free, but access is by registration only. And these events are POPULAR!! So when I get to checking them out on the Friday before they take place, the most interesting ones are usually already booked out. \nIkea in Ballymun runs a variety of crafting, music and cooking workshops it is always worh checking out. The workshops are free and usually go for 45 minutes. They are always for children, but the age is often not fixed. There are specific Toddler and baby workshops at times as well.
