This week feels a bit different. With the ongoing fuel protests across Dublin, blocked depots and disruptions on the streets, it’s hard to ignore what’s happening at the moment. At times like this you almost wonder if putting together an event guide makes sense at all.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

But then again, life doesn’t really pause. Even with the chaos, people still go out, events still happen and the city keeps moving, even if it’s a bit slower and more complicated than usual.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

It’s not always clear what exactly is being achieved with this level of disruption, especially when it starts affecting everyday life for so many people. But regardless of where you stand on it, the reality is that we all have to navigate it as best we can.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

So the Dublin Event Guide goes ahead as usual. Maybe with a bit more flexibility required this week, maybe with a Plan B in mind, but still with plenty of options if you’re willing to make the effort.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ Five Lamps Arts Festival<\/strong>
\nThe Five Lamps Arts Festival, named after the landmark Five Lamps at the junction of Amiens Street with North Strand Road and Portland Row and Seville Place and Killarney Street, is taking place from Saturday 11 April until Sunday 19 April. It is a festival in the North Strand Road area with lots of events. The majority of events are not free, but there are free events and I have listed a few in the listings above. +++ Handel\u2019s Messiah on the Street<\/strong>
\nOn 13 April 1742, in a packed concert hall on Fishamble Street, Georg Friedrich H\u00e4ndel conducted the world premiere of his oratorio “Messiah”. And every year this event is celebrated by up to 120 singers from Our Lady’s Choral Society and the The Dublin Handelian Orchestra, by performing this epic piece of music on the street, just steps from where it was performed the first time in 1742. And it is a great performance every year! \nApril is the month of “One Dublin One Book”. Dublin City Libraries and Dublin UNESCO City of Literature are selecting one book every year that they suggest everyone should read in April. This year the book is “Christine Falls” by John Banville, a crime fiction book.

\nIkea in Ballymun runs a variety of crafting, music and cooking workshops it is always worh checking out. The workshops are free and usually go for 45 minutes. They are always for children, but the age is often not fixed. There are specific Toddler and baby workshops at times as well.
