At this stage I am starting to check the horizon for signs of Noah\u2019s Ark. The rain in Dublin has been relentless and not of the polite Irish drizzle variety. Nooo, instead it is proper, committed, heavy rain. If someone told me we were quietly transitioning into amphibious living, I wouldn\u2019t be entirely surprised.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

This weekend I am temporarily escaping to Germany to visit family, which may or may not be a strategic move to avoid further meteorological punishment. Because of that, this week\u2019s Dublin Event Guide might be a little shorter than usual. Speaking of noise, this Saturday is Valentine\u2019s Day. In earlier years we used that day for a Dublin Event Guide supporters\u2019 meetup and had well over a hundred people show up. Not because of candlelit dinners, but because it was a good excuse to gather people who love Dublin and believe culture doesn’t need a ticket price. The real reason we chose that specific day? Valentine\u2019s is wildly overhyped and unnecessarily stressful for singles and couples alike. I am not at all against celebrating love, but there are better ways than sitting in a crammed restaurant that has limited their normally wide and flexible, delicious food options to just two or three prescribed alternatives because otherwise the kitchen staff will go mad. And the love that we celebrate doesn’t have to be for a partner. Just celebrate life and what you love in life and have a wonderful day no matter what your relationship status is.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\nThe Dublin Cemeteries Trust, in conjunction with the School of Histories and Humanities at Trinity College Dublin, has announced the “Working in Dublin 1850-1980”-titled Glasnevin Spring Lecture Series 2026.
\nThere will be four lectures in March and April. +++ LIVE AID EXHIBITION<\/strong>
\nLive Aid was a two-venue benefit concert and music-based fundraising initiative held on the same day on Saturday 13 July 1985 in Wembley Stadium in London and in the John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia. The event was organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for relief of the devastating 1983\u20131985 famine in Ethiopia. The charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” in December 1984 was the start of the project. Live Aid was HUGE and had an estimated audience of 1.9 billion people in 150 nations.
\nSome of the performers at the concerts were U2, Phil Collins, David Bowie, Queen, Dire Straits, The Who, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Bob Geldof, String, Elvis Costello, Sade, Boomtown Rats, Status Quo, Spandau Ballet.
\nThe National Library of Ireland is showing 70 photos and images from this decade-impacting, momentous event at an exhibition in the National Photographic Archive, Meeting House Square, Temple Bar, Dublin 2, D02 WF85.
\nThe exhibition will be on display at least until March, possibly longer and will be open from 10:00-16:00 every Monday to Sunday (last admission 15:30). Admission is free.

\nIkea in Ballymun runs a variety of crafting, music and cooking workshops it is always worh checking out. The workshops are free and usually go for 45 minutes. They are always for children, but the age is often not fixed. There are specific Toddler and baby workshops at times as well.
