2025 is done and dusted and 2026 didn\u2019t bother knocking. It just walked in, took over and got on with it. No nostalgia, no gentle handover, no sympathy for the year that just left. And honestly, that feels about right.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

So here we are. A fresh set of 365 days and no good reason to waste them drifting along. This is not the year for half measures or waiting to see how things turn out. If we want 2026 to be something better, more interesting or more enjoyable, then we actually have to take ownership of it. The same applies to Dublin and its cultural life. We can enjoy what\u2019s on offer and we should, but we can also be clear about what we want more of. We want cultural events that are accessible, inclusive and not locked behind ticket prices. We want creativity in the city to be something everyone can take part in, not just something to be marketed and monetised.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

So let\u2019s start the year with intent. Explore Dublin. Support free culture. Be curious, be present and when necessary, be vocal. +++ Nollaig na mBan (a.k.a.”Little Christmas” and “Women\u2019s Christmas”<\/strong>
\nSome still know that the Christmas period STARTS on 25 December and then continues for 12 days (the true 12 days of Christmas) until 06 January. More know that Spain celebrates Christmas and the gift giving in that period on 06 January when the three Kings (Los Reyes Magos) come to bring the presents. BUT less and less people know the other meaning of 06 Jan that is specific to Ireland.
\n06 January has traditionally been Nollaig na mBan (“Women’s Christmas”) in Ireland. It was the day, after all the hard work of cooking and housekeeping over Christmas, when the mother\/wife\/woman of the house got a day off, met up with other women and left the home for a few hours to celebrate Christmas without work.
\nI think it is a nice way to recognise the hard work, but as you can imagine, it is a tradition that is on the way out.
\nIf your wife\/partner\/mother\/grandmother slaved away over Christmas keeping everyone fed and watered and ensuring that the house was kept in shape, it is time that you thank them! Do it on the 6th or you forget! She might not meet her friends to go out on that day, then you the grateful male, offer to do the work on that day!
\nIn Dublin’s North Inner City, a community festival is taking place on 06 Jan. Organised by women for women, they organise talks, Live music and more and all details are at https:\/\/nollaignamban.ie\/<\/a><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ LIVE AID EXHIBITION<\/strong>
\nLive Aid was a two-venue benefit concert and music-based fundraising initiative held on the same day on Saturday 13 July 1985 in Wembley Stadium in London and in the John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia. The event was organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for relief of the devastating 1983\u20131985 famine in Ethiopia. The charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” in December 1984 was the start of the project. Live Aid was HUGE and had an estimated audience of 1.9 billion people in 150 nations.
\nSome of the performers at the concerts were U2, Phil Collins, David Bowie, Queen, Dire Straits, The Who, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Bob Geldof, String, Elvis Costello, Sade, Boomtown Rats, Status Quo, Spandau Ballet.
\nThe National Library of Ireland is showing 70 photos and images from this decade-impacting, momentous event at an exhibition in the National Photographic Archive, Meeting House Square, Temple Bar, Dublin 2, D02 WF85.
\nThe exhibition will be on display at least until March, possibly longer and will be open from 10:00-16:00 every Monday to Sunday (last admission 15:30). Admission is free.

\nEvery week, the Dublin City Council Culture Company organises cultural events in venues in Dublin. They are events in addition to the normal events in museums, galleries and other venues. \nIkea in Ballymun runs a variety of crafting, music and cooking workshops it is always worh checking out. The workshops are free and usually go for 45 minutes. They are always for children, but the age is often not fixed. There are specific Toddler and baby workshops at times as well.
