We have arrived at the last weekend before Christmas! Your last few days to buy presents and definitely the time to fill the fridge and freezer for the feast that usually comes with Christmas.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

But this is also the time to think about neighbours, friends or family members that are living alone or are elderly. While some are MAD busy around Christmas, this period of the year can be really difficult for others. If you are a tourist in Dublin, then unfortunately the news is not great. There are NO events today and no sites are open. There are usually also no restaurants open. Some hotels serve food. Otherwise go to one of the Spar shops in the city centre or maybe a take away. There is one shop for example at the corner of Dame Street and George’s Street that usually is open on Christmas Day.<\/p>\n

\nThe OPW didn’t make Dublin Castle available for the “Christmas at the Castle” Christmas Market, a major disappointment in 2025. In previous years Dublin Castle was open free of charge for self-guided tours while the Christmas Market was taking place. This year, the OPW is making visits to Dublin Castle free for two days on Sat+Sun 20+21 Dec. Make use of it!

+++ GAZA THROUGH THEIR EYES – Exhibition<\/strong>
\nDublin City Council, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and the European Commission\u2019s Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations are inviting to the exhibition “Gaza Through Their Eyes”. It is an exhibition featuring twenty-seven photographs taken by photojournalists who have been documenting life in the Gaza Strip under siege from October 2023. The exhibition is in City Hall, Dame Street, Dublin 2 and will be open from 11-20 December (09:00-17:00). \nTwinkletown is different from last year. You might remember that last year there was an ice rink and an ice museum and a ferris wheel.
\nWe are told that Twinkletown 2025 will be very different. The ice museum is gone, the Christmas Market is much bigger and there will be the Spiegeltent for shows and gigs and a “Santo Panto” live show.
\n“Twinkletown” will run until Sunday 04 January. Weekday opening hours will be 11:00-21:00 and at weekends the event is open from 10:00-21:00.

\nEvery week, the Dublin City Council Culture Company organises cultural events in venues in Dublin. They are events in addition to the normal events in museums, galleries and other venues. \nIkea in Ballymun runs a variety of crafting, music and cooking workshops it is always worh checking out. The workshops are free and usually go for 45 minutes. They are always for children, but the age is often not fixed. There are specific Toddler and baby workshops at times as well.
