I\u2019m finally back in Dublin! After the unpredictability of Zambian power cuts, it feels like such a luxury to switch on a light or charge my laptop without wondering how long it will last. It\u2019s good to be home and at the same same time I miss what I left behind. The coming back was a bit of a shock: From wonderfully hot 36 degrees on Monday afternoon (I like heat!), to cold 10 degrees in Dublin on Tuesday morning. I was freezing for two days. But don’t we adjust to “normality” quickly? I am acclimatised again and all is good.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Now that Halloween is behind us, Dublin has slipped into November mode. Less spooky but no less exciting! ;-) Dublin is always filled with music, art, talks and markets and it\u2019s that time of year when Christmas decorations and lights start to appear in shop windows and very soon the Christmas lights in the streets will be switched on.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

November often gets called a \u201cquiet month\u201d that is overshadowed by its much busier brother\/sister, the festive December. But in a way, November is a perfect in-between – full of chances to enjoy cosy indoor events while still making the most of crisp, bright days outside. Whether you fancy discovering a new band, wandering through an art exhibition, or joining a community event, there\u2019s plenty to keep you entertained and inspired. +++ DUBLIN BY NIGHT FEST<\/strong>
\nThe 3rd Dublin by Night Fest will take place this Saturday 01 November. It is a free evening in Dublin City Centre (Dame Street, College Green and Capel Street) that highlights Dublin\u2019s night-time culture with live outdoor performances, street animation, arts and culture installations, market stalls from local businesses, food from restaurants and caf\u00e9s, and cookery demonstrations by Dublin chefs. It will also feature performances from buskers and emerging musicians. The city will be buzzing and organisers expect tens of thousands of people. +++ DUBLIN BOOK FESTIVAL<\/strong>
\nFrom 05-09 November the Dublin Book Festival will take place and will bring LOTS of literary and book-related events to Dublin. Nearly all events need booking, so you better hurry to check them out at https:\/\/dublinbookfestival.com\/explore-the-programme\/<\/a> Different to many other festivals, the organisers are super helpful and have little “Free” labels showing on the event picture for all free events. Look out for them!
\nThere is also a “Dublin Book Festival After Dark” Programme, but unfortunately the “Free” label has been dropped on that sub page: https:\/\/dublinbookfestival.com\/event_category\/dbf-after-dark\/<\/a> So you better use the main event page (first link) to look for events if you are specifically interested in free events.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ HUGH LANE GALLERY CLOSED – for 3 years!!<\/strong>
\nIf you enjoy art in Dublin, take note! The Hugh Lane Gallery on Parnell Square has closed its doors on 28 September 2025 for a major refurbishment. And the closure is expected to last a crazily long three years.
\nDuring the works, the historic 1930s wing of Charlemont House, the home of the Hugh Lane Gallery, will be upgraded to full modern museum standards, with improved environmental controls and security and the building will be connected to the new city library that is planned for Parnell Square.
\nThe collection \u2014 including the always-fascinating Francis Bacon studio \u2014 will be packed and protected during the closure and the gallery plans to continue some outreach and off-site programming while the building is being transformed.
\nThree years without the Hugh Lane will be a huge cultural gap and the surprising thing is that the gallery has been closed despite the fact that the tender for the building works has not even been issued.
\nThis is unfortunately another long-term closure of a museum in Dublin since the National History Museum closed on 01 September 2024 and will be closed for “several years” without an indication for a re-opening date.

\nIkea in Ballymun runs a variety of crafting, music and cooking workshops it is always worh checking out. The workshops are free and usually go for 45 minutes. They are always for children, but the age is often not fixed. There are specific Toddler and baby workshops at times as well.
