This weekly newsletter focuses totally on Dublin and its events. But Dublin is not the only place that has (free) cultural events. This weekend, two big events take place a good bit further South and if you have time and the interest, maybe consider going there OR plan it in for next year.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

The two big festivals are the “Spraoi International Street Arts Festival” in Waterford where there will be street performance, circus, music, dance and fireworks on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. With approx. 200 free events this festival will attract tens of thousands of visitors to Waterford. It is running since 1993 and always takes place on the August bank holiday weekend. The second festival, with surprisingly high figures mentioned of up to 600,000 visitors (that’s more than 10% of the population in Ireland!?), is the Fleadh Cheoil festival in Wexford with traditional Irish music, dance and culture from this Sunday (03 Aug) until next Sunday (10 Aug). https:\/\/fleadhcheoil.ie\/<\/a><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Closer to home, the Bray Air Display (ONLY on Saturday!) will bring you fly-bys and performances of planes and helicopters in the air and craft and food markets on the ground from 12:00. The air show will start at 15:00. https:\/\/brayairdisplay.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ Climbing “Mount Everest” for Rescue Dogs<\/strong>
\nA friend and colleague of mine loves and cares about rescue dogs so much that this weekend he is tackling a near super-human challenge: Daniel Cooney will climb Ireland’s highest mountain, Carrauntoohill, 15 times in a row (!!!) over the bank holiday weekend to cover 8848 metres, which is the height of Mount Everest. And all this to collect money for Rescue Dogs.
\nDaniel was on TV (Ireland AM) and in the newspapers (https:\/\/www.independent.ie\/regionals\/kerry\/south-kerry-news\/meet-the-meath-man-set-to-climb-kerrys-carrauntoohill-15-times-in-a-rowall-for-the-love-of-rescue-dogs\/a2054730166.html<\/a>) with the current challenge and his original goal was well exceeded. The new goal is EUR 13,000 and at the time of writing this, the donation counter stands at EUR 11,550.

\nFor an outdoor event it is surprising that you need to register. Yes, we had that during the pandemic years, but since then, most event organisers have realised that ticketing for free large scale outdoor events usually doesn’t work well.
