Surprise!!! Last week I mentioned that there won’t be a Dublin Event Guide this week as I am on holidays more than 12,000 km south and power here is at the moment hit and miss. But here is a Dublin Event Guide nevertheless! It gets dark at 18:00 and power is only available for 4-7 hours every day because the main power source is hydro-power (electricity generated by water turbines) and the lake that is used for power generation has such a low water level due to the lack of rain over the last few years that the hydro-power turbines can’t operate enough to generate 24 hours of electricity.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Remember when there were power outages in the west of Ireland due to the recent storms? When we have no power for a few hours, we think this is the end of the world. Here in Zambia these power outages are normality for more than a year.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

It makes you really appreciate the 24 hours of electricity that we have nearly all the time.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Companies have solar power and diesel generators, but private homes not so much, so I am hoping that the power will last long enough to get this Dublin Event Guide to you.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

It is not a FULL Dublin Event Guide, but better than nothing. There are less events listed this week and I might have missed some relevant events. I hope I didn’t, but it is easily possible. I am rushing everything, because in less than 4 hours power will be gone again.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

By the way: Apart from this problem (that is shared by a range of countries in this region) Zambia is a beautiful country with wonderful people.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ One Dublin One Book Month<\/strong>
\nApril is the month of “One Dublin One Book”. Every year a book is chosen and this book is the focus for the whole month with lots of events around that book.
\nThis year, the chosen book is “Dublin, written in our hearts” and it contains fiction, poetry, essays and memoir pieces collated in celebration of Dublin. The book features work from a whol erange of authors:

\nEvery week, the Dublin City Council Culture Company organises cultural events in venues in Dublin. They are events in addition to the normal events in museums, galleries and other venues. All events are free, but access is by registration only. And these events are POPULAR!! So when I get to checking them out on the Friday before they take place, the most interesting ones are usually already booked out. \nIkea in Ballymun runs a variety of crafting, music and cooking workshops it is always worh checking out. The workshops are free and usually go for 45 minutes. They are always for children, but the age is often not fixed. There are specific Toddler and baby workshops at times as well.
