April is nearly over and the “stretch in the evening” is getting a lot more distinctive. Next we need warmth! Some sun is nice and makes everybody feel better, but if the sun doesn’t heat, then it’s only half the deal. End of April and the forecast tells us that on Saturday morning the temperatures will drop to 3 degrees and on Sunday morning it will be a whopping 4 degrees. This week the Bealtaine Festival will start again and run throughout the whole May. Year after year this festival intrigues me. It is a great festival with LOTS of free events (more than I can I list as individual events). But the intriguing thing is the target group. The festival calls itself “Ireland\u2019s national celebration of the arts and creativity as we age.” You might wonder what “as we age” means, because that is a common feature in ALL our lives.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

Well the Bealtaine Festival was once for “older” people, but then the fear of categorising people negatively seemingly kicked in and the question of what is older or elderly had to be answered. The age category was defined as 55 and above. But nobody at 55 would see themselves as “older”, so I don’t envy the organisers. They gave up on specifying an age and moved from “older” to the odd description “as we age”. Strictly speaking that makes the Bealtaine Festival a festival for everyone (because we all age). But it still is targetted at older people. ;-)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
