On this weekend the complete focus is unsurprisingly on St. Patrick’s Day. The festival starts properly on Saturday and runs until the Bank Holiday Monday. The main day is obviously St. Patrick’s Day itself on Sunday 17 March when the parade happens in the City Centre.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

In recent years I have discovered that there are THREE types of St. Patrick’s Festival celebrators.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

There are the ones that go to the parade year after year and are serious about St. Patrick’s Day. Then there are the ones that NEVER went to the parade and are otherwise also not too pushed about St. Patrick’s Day and then there are lots (many of them are “new Irish”) who went to the parade once and did all the green hat and Leprechaun outfit shenanigans and in all following years they use the St. Patrick’s Day weekend to explore other cities in Europe. Which type are you?<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

I think in the last few years the festival in Dublin got much better. The addition of the events at Collins Barracks was a great idea for a whole range of reasons. But I am not convinced that the parade is the best it can be. However if you asked me what should\/could be improved, I have only a very small number of ideas.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ St Patrick’s Festival Dublin<\/strong>
\nThis year’s St. Patrick’s Festival will consist of three main components. There is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, then there are events in the “Festival Quarter” at Collins Barrack and there are “One City” events. Events in the Festival Quarter are free from 12:00-17:00 and require purchased tickets after 17:00. Most of the “One City Events” are not free.
\nThe Parade starts at 12:00 and if you want to see it (not just hear it) either be very early (2 hours before it starts as a minimum) or do not go to O’Connell Street or Dame Street. Between Christ Church and the end in Kevin Street, you probably have a better chance to see the parade. https:\/\/stpatricksfestival.ie\/events\/parade<\/a>
\nOnce the parade is over, leave the city centre immediately. The messy aspect of St. Patrick’s Day appears at that point and you better are on your way to Collins Barracks (National Museum) where the Festival Quarter is and where at 15:00 the Ceili Mor, a mass-event of Irish dancing will take place. You will be taught some Irish Dance moves and you will listen to different types of Trad music.
