Do you have a “bee in your bonnet” about something? “Bee in your bonnet” is a term that was created 1648 and it refers to a bonnet, which is a soft hat\/cap that was worn by women at night to hold the hair in. And if you had a bee in that said bonnet, you would be quite irritated and triggered about it.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

So “having a bee in your bonnet about something” means that that topic triggers you, gets you to talk about it so that you can’t shut up and is on your mind a good bit.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Well, my bee in my bonnet is about the start of the seasons in Ireland and in this coming week you will read LOTS of misinformation about that again. Especially with the new national holiday, St. Brigid’s Day, lots of media outlets will incorrectly claim that 01 Feb is the start of spring.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\n

Why would they do that? Because till today, in Ireland primary schools teach this wrong to children. Yes, 01 Feb is an important day in the Celtic Calendar, but the Celts didn’t divide up the year like we do (or the day!) and they were not referring to spring in the way we define it today. Met Eireann is trying to correct that for years (https:\/\/www.met.ie\/cms\/assets\/uploads\/2021\/02\/YP-Fun-Facts-Meteorological-Seasons.pdf<\/a>) but the wrong information stubbornly doesn’t go away.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

01 Feb is Imbolc, the Pagan holiday created 4,000-12,000 years ago that marks the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. It was intended as a festival of a new start after the cold period is coming to an end and for that reason can be confused with the start of spring, however the Celts had a different outlook on the world. Their day started for example at sunset (not at midnight). So, no Imbolc is NOT the start of Spring. The start of Spring in meteorological terms in Ireland is 01 March and the start of Spring in astronomical terms is 20 March.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\nDublin City has a new app that allows us to discover iconic Dublin landmarks such as the famine statues, the CHQ building and more.

\nAfter you got the app, you can point your phone at the landmarks and this will prompt the related images, videos and stories to pop up.
\nThe app uses Augmented Reality (AR), a mix of 3D graphics, animation and audio, to immerse users in the story of the city.

\n<\/strong>An exhibition of Bowie photographs by Philippe Auliac will be on display from Wed 11 Jan – Sun 29 Jan in Rathfarnham Castle (10:30-16:15). Admission is free (closed Mondays and Tuesdays).
\nSince first shooting Bowie in 1972, the French photographer has captured the rock icon many times over his long career.
