Yes, it is the FIFA World Cup from this Sunday (20 November) until just before Christmas (the final will be on 18 December).<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Because it will take place in Qatar, it is not only very controversial because of the atrocious human rights record that Qatar has, but it also will take place at the oddest time ever. All the normal great outdoor summer football parties and events can’t happen and the World Cup will have to share the living room with the Christmas Tree.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

During the week I was talking to somebody who said that he loves football, but hates Christmas and his wife loves Christmas, but hates football. So maybe this pre-Christmas World Cup is not the worst for that couple. It won’t unite them in their interests, but both can focus on something they love at the same time (albeit separately) instead of both feeling that they have to suffer for 4 full weeks. ;-)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
