As soon as Culture Night is over in September, the next focus is the “Open House” event by the Irish Architecture Foundation on 15+16 October.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

It is a COMPLETELY different event than Culture Night, but it also is a very unique event that brings the world around us closer to us. Open House doesn’t focus on culture, instead its whole focus is on architecture. It looks at the buildings around us and you will be able to visit these buildings, go on a guided tour and find out from architects what was the idea behind how they are built.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

As you can guess from this intro, I love “Open House”! Why? Because I discovered buildings and their purpose and intention in Dublin that had no meaning to me before Open House and suddenly after the event, I “got them”. I understood what the architects intended and I saw their beauty and purpose.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Buildings like Liberty Hall or Busaras, that many judge as quite ugly buildings. Or buildings like the Department of Foreign Affairs at St Stephen’s Green or Government Buildings on Merrion Road or the offices of the headquarters of the Irish Lighthouse authority, the Commissioners of Irish Lights, in Dun Laoghaire, or the Criminal Court of Justice at the edge of Phoenix Park. All amazing buildings in their own rights that we often don’t think much about.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Open House will consist of tours on Saturday and Sunday and while some tours are walk-in tours where you just join a queue outside and wait until it is your turn, many require booking. So check the website https:\/\/www.openhousedublin.com<\/a> already now and make a plan for the weekend of 15+16 Oct. Select at least ONE building that you want to see and then check if you need to book the tour. Do it this weekend, so that you don’t miss out! ;-)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

You won’t have to wait 2 weeks until the next worthwhile event though! There are interesting and exciting cultural events every day of the week in this great city of ours! +++ Sculpture in Context – National Botanic Garden<\/strong>
\nFor the 36th time the yearly “Sculpture in Context” exhibition will be in the National Botanic Gardens. 120 artists are showing their work and the bigger pieces are wonderfully integrated in the park. The sculptures will be in the park from 01 Sept to 07 Oct (inclusive).
