After the big Twitter news over the last few days, I wish I could tell you that Elon Musk wants to buy the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)”. :-D And that he wants to continue with a similarly great service but with a whole range of improvements (and it will be sent earlier every week – I KNOW!!). ;-) Wouldn’t that be great news? I would use some of the money to fix a good few things that otherwise (with no money) might never happen! +++ International Sculpture Day 2022<\/strong>
\nInternational Sculpture Day is encouraging a focus on sculptures across Dublin. We have lots of them and there are tours and talks and other events organised and it seems all is free. Great idea to focus on the sculptures, but the website is soooo difficult to navigate that you loose the will to continue after a few clicks. Have a look at https:\/\/www.sculpturedublin.ie\/international-sculpture-day\/<\/a> I didn’t have the extensive time needed to fish out a few good events for you, so you have to do it yourself. Luckily the sculptures in Dublin are much more accessible than the website.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ Bealtaine Festival<\/strong>
\nEvery May, the Bealtaine Festival takes place. Bealtaine is Ireland’s national festival which “celebrates the arts and creativity as we age” and is run by Age & Opportunity. This is a oddly cumbersome description, but it expresses the difficult balance act between what the Bealtaine Festival essentially once was, a festival for old people, and what it wants to be, an inclusive festival for everyone who is older than around 50 without calling them old yet. A difficult balance act. And the saying “if you want to be something for everyone, you will be nothing for anybody” comes to mind. If you asked me, I would describe the Bealtaine Festival as a cultural festival for older people who otherwise don’t get much involved in events and culture and it has a REALLY important function in that role. It makes getting out and meeting others more accessible for many people. It is just a pity that it is limited to one month per year. There is a large number of events and you will find them all at https:\/\/bealtaine.ie\/events-2022\/<\/a> but this year the Bealtaine festival seems to be much smaller than in previous years. If you want to limit your search to events in Dublin City, you can use this link https:\/\/bealtaine.ie\/bealtaine-event\/?_sft_event_county=dublin-dublin-city<\/a> and find 52 events. Many of them are free events, so have a look! +++ COMPETITION: Gospel Rising Music Festival – Ticket Competition<\/strong>
\nDo you know about the Gospel Rising Music Festival? A great group of people organise this amazing Gospel Music Festival every year (with a bit of a break due to some global health issue recently) for the last 10 years or so. I was at the festival myself a few times and ran a workshop at the last festival three years ago.

\nA brand new event during the festival is the “Know Your Lyrics – Gospel Rising Music Game Show” in The Sugar Club. It will be lots of fun: Two teams compete to pick the right lyrics of well known gospel music songs. Led by their host and with the help of the audience, two fantastic piano players will captain their team of gospel singers through a series of rounds against the clock to guess the hidden song lines. Remember the “Lyrics Board” on RTE? Yes, there are some similarities! ;-)

\nOn Sunday 08 May, crime expert Jennifer Rees will explore one of Forensic Psychology’s most troubling topics: “The Psychology Of Serial Killers”. Jennifer will discuss the differences between male and female serial killers, incorporating case studies to illustrate. She will also investigate the phenomenon of killer couples and explain why killers gain admirers, fan mail and even spouses despite their atrocious crimes.
