Hi all!<\/p>\n

There is so much I could write about in this week’s intro! At the beginning of the week I had the honour and the privilege to be invited to a tour of four great sights in Dublin. We visited the Custom House Museum, Croke Park, Glasnevin Cemetery, Teeling Distillery and EPIC – The Irish Emigration Museum. A great tour and I want to tell you a bit more about that, but I will have to leave it until next week.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Also on the same tour, I met two wonderful, enthusiastic and super charming longtime Dublin Event Guide followers and supporters. And next week I will tell you more about that encounter as well! So what will I write about this week? Well there are TWO big events this week. The first one is obviously the first St. Patrick’s Festival after a 2 year break. St. Patrick’s Day was a glorious day on Thursday and the weather was perfect for the parade and – as a secret St. Patrick’s Day Parade cynic – I have to admit that the parade was quite good this year. Over the weekend, the St. Patrick’s Festival continues at the Festival Quarter at the National Museum at Collins Barracks. Today I can’t just move on to the free events without drawing your attention to the fact that this is the 750th Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)!! 750 weekly editions weeks is a LOT. Imagine doing ANYTHING 750 times. ;-) If you decide that number by 52, you will find out that it is more than 14 years that the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)” is spreading the word about all sorts of free events to all subscribers and readers.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

A lot has happened over the more than 14 years in the event world in Dublin, but also in the Social Media world and it is getting harder and harder to reach a large number of readers. \nTwo years a pandemic impacted our lives in DRASTIC and DRAMATIC ways! Loved ones died, relatives were (unnecessarily and unfairly) stopped from visiting their dying family members and even stopped from attending funerals. All along we were promised a celebration for the people that passed and the people that worked through these tough times and who were being exposed to it all. But things are back to normal and it seems that we will best pretend that it has never happened.

\nThe Press Release says “The event is part of a National Day of Remembrance in recognition of the efforts of the general public, volunteers and all workers throughout the pandemic and in remembrance of people who lost their lives due to Cov id.” but in the text it even is called an “inti mate event”, so it seems that it was never intended to let the everyone know and to properly commemorate the frontline staff and the people who lost their lives and their friends and relatives.

\nFrom 18 March until 10 April fifteen organisations across Ireland will invite to 39 events that will shine a spotlight on the history of the LGBTI+ community. Mainly through talks (in-person or online), webinars and workshops, academics and activists will create this platform for previously overlooked LGBTI+ histories. \nThe National Gallery is usually free anyway, but in current times you will have to book tickets to get access and you have to enter the building on the Merrion Street side.
