Over the last two years there were plenty of Friday nights when I sat at my computer thinking about what I would write in this intro to the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)” and I drew a blank.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

I just didn’t know what to write. Yes, there was ONE big topic in everyone’s mind and I had and have strong opinions about what the Irish government told us to do and yes, all these things had to do with free events in Dublin. Either directly or indirectly. But I also know that this is a publication about free events, not anything else.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

This week, I have a similar problem. There is a war happening in Europe, something that most of us have never experienced in our whole life. (The Yugoslav Wars from 1991-2001 was more seen by many as an internal civil war, although it wasn’t really.)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\"\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\n

Should I mention the fighting and struggle in the Ukraine? After all, it is something many of us are quite concerned about. But it really has nothing to do with free events in Dublin.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Ignoring it doesn’t feel right, but writing about it, also doesn’t.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

So let me then just say one thing: If you have an opportunity to support Ukraine through any specific action or through supporting any of the protests that hopefully will take place in the coming days and weeks, please consider it! In the 21st century in Europe, NO war is justifiable!<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\nFrom 07 Dec to 27 March the Coach House in the gardens of Dublin Castle will be the home of a National Archives exhibition about “The Treaty 1921: Records from the Archives”. The Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921 is the centre piece of the exhibition.
