Hi all!<\/p>\n

Some of you know that I am part of the Gardiner Street Gospel Choir and a few years ago I had the pleasure to meet an amazing vocal group from Zambia who were visiting Gardiner Street Church.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

We met, became friends and stayed in touch over the years and in December that vocal group, called “Chosen”, was meant to do a Christmas concert. They were all ready to go and then the gig was cancelled because of\u00a0the pandemic.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Fast forward a few weeks and after two further schedule changes, the concert is now taking place today (Saturday 19 Feb from 17:00-18:30).<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

If you like gospel music, vocal groups or just singing you HAVE to her Chosen! They are so so good. The harmonies blow you away or give you goose bumps, the excitement and enthusiasm that they have for their music is infectious and their performances are uplifting and inspirational. Just AMAZING! I would love for everyone to hear them, but the concert is taking place in St. Ignatius Church in Lusaka, Zambia. And this might be a little far for most of us. Right? Well, actually not!<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Over the last two weeks I was working with Chosen and LoyolaTV to give all of us a chance to enjoy this concert and after a few discussions it was agreed to live-stream the concert tonight.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

I would have loved to tell you already last week, but only yesterday the plan finally became concrete enough to talk about it.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\nThis exhibition at EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum reflects on the role and influence of Irish educators across the globe over the centuries.
\nThe Irish had an important role in early Catholic colleges in France, Spain and Belgium. Later, education in Ireland itself was revolutionised with the establishment of the National Schools’ system in 1830, the development of convent schools and from 1892 the compulsory education of all children aged 6\u201314. By 1911, Ireland was second only to Finland in the proportion of women attending university.
\nThe combination of these factors led many Irish women to train as educators. Some of those featured in the exhibition include Dublin-born Sr Gabriel Hogan, who founded the first Catholic school for the deaf in New South Wales; Limerick’s Dr Pamela O’Malley, educator and part of the communist resistance against the Franco regime; Donegal-born Sr Julia McGroarty, who founded one of the first women’s colleges in the USA, as well as schools for immigrant and African-American children; Belfast man Revd Frederick O’Neill, who established girls’ schools in China and Scotch-Irish man William Holmes McGuffey, who authored a textbook that sold 120 million copies in the USA.

+++ National Print Museum free for 25th anniversary<\/strong>
\nThe National Print Museum is in the Old Garrison Chapel, Beggars Bush Barracks, Haddington Road, Dublin 4. It is a relatively small, but perfectly formed, museum in Ballsbridge and it shows and explains the history of printing in Ireland. In the past, retired printers regularly explained how the fully-operational historic printing machines work and the museum does a great job in helping all ages to understand how dramatically the world has changed in that area. The museum has re-opened on 21 January and is currently free, to celebrate their 25th anniversary. Guided tours are still on pause, but even a self-guided tour will be very interesting and educational. \nFrom 07 Dec to 27 March the Coach House in the gardens of Dublin Castle will be the home of a National Archives exhibition about “The Treaty 1921: Records from the Archives”. The Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921 is the centre piece of the exhibition.
