Hi all!<\/p>\n

After 680 days of varying levels of restrictions, it seemingly is all over now….at least if the health emergency listens to the Irish government. ;-) Nearly all restrictions are lifted from 06:00 this Saturday morning, as was announced during a government press briefing on Friday evening!<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

The fact that nearly all restrictions are gone now is great news and it is definitely time to celebrate.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Some might be very surprised about the speed with which all restrictions were lifted, though. In the UK, Boris Johnson did make a similar wide-reaching announcement and there it was called a “publicity stunt”. :-O<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

But no matter what it is in Ireland, let’s be happy about this second “freedom day”. (Yes, we had the first one, exactly 3 months ago on 22 October 2021! Remember?)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

While you celebrate and meet friends, please be aware that the new development will leave a fair amount of people totally confused and discombobulated. Especially elderly people (but not only!) who had a mighty fear driven into them over the last 2 years might take some while to overcome the fear and worry and they could probably do with our understanding, help and support.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

For the rest of us, it is time for a re-learning. Re-learning of “socialising”, re-learning of “going out”, of going to events, of dating, of working from an office again. It is amazing how much you can forget in nearly 2 years. ;-)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

For the Dublin Event Guide it means that the number of events will dramatically increase and that you will have a LOT more to do in your spare time. HOPEFULLY, some venues that did start charging admission fees in the last few months will return to free events again and with some luck we will – despite the short preparational period – even have some festivals in the summer. (It already has been announced that there will be a St. Patrick’s Day Parade this year!)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ Dublin Lunar New Year: Year of the Tiger<\/strong>
\nIt was once called Dublin Chinese New Year, but now has been renamed to Dublin Lunar New Year. Possibly to confuse us all, but more likely because also Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and South Korea celebrate the start of the year based on the Lunar calendar. The next year is the Year of the Tiger and it starts on 01 February. The Dublin Lunar New Year festivities will be online and in-person this year and will run from 28 January to 06 February. +++ Tradfest Temple Bar<\/strong>
\nThis year’s Tradfest will take place from 26-30 January and will consist of Headline Concerts (not free), the Smithwicks Sessions in pubs (free), a Tradfringe programme (mainly not free, but with some free events) and two Tradkids events in The Ark.https:\/\/tradfesttemplebar.com\/events\/<\/a>
\nA range of gigs from the Smithwicks Sessions are listed in the listings above for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. In total there will be 17 gigs in different venues over these three days this week and you can find them all here https:\/\/tradfesttemplebar.com\/events\/category\/smithwicks-sessions\/
\n<\/a>The starting times for these events are from 18:00, but it is possible that the organisers will move the starting times now that pubs can stay open longer than 20:00. Some of the paid events are Sold Out, but this undoubtedly based on the low attendee numbers that were allowed until now. With the lifting of the restrictions, I would imagine that the organisers will re-open ticket sales, so if you missed out on any events, keep a close eye on the website and with a bit of luck you will be able to get tickets for some headline events even at this late stage.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ Science Gallery: The last week!<\/strong>
\nThis is the last week of the Science Gallery Dublin and I am really sad about it! The current exhibition will close on 31 Jan and this week the last two events will happen on Wednesday and Thursday. It is a huge mistake to close the museum and the fault lies firmly with the management of Trinity College Dublin. On their website they claim “Trinity remains committed to the global Science Gallery Network, an international idea that originated with Science Gallery Dublin, and intends to consult with members on how best to re-imagine Science Gallery Dublin in the future.” but that sounds more like lip service and a commitment with no action is worth nothing. Headlined “The future of the Science Gallery”, the website at https:\/\/dublin.sciencegallery.com\/the-future<\/a> outlines when the Science Gallery closes. Not much of a future it seems!<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ The Treaty 1921: Records from the Archives – Exhibition<\/strong>
\nFrom 07 Dec to 27 March the Coach House in the gardens of Dublin Castle will be the home of a National Archives exhibition about “The Treaty 1921: Records from the Archives”. The Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921 is the centre piece of the exhibition. \nThe National Gallery is usually free anyway, but in current times you will have to book tickets to get access and you have to enter the building on the Merrion Street side.
