Hi all!<\/p>\n

You know the “duck test”, right? If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck. So based on that test, I think we can call what was announced last night a “lockdown”. Would you agree? Sure, you can still go to work and go to shops, but apart from that the rest of social life is largely locked down again and not just for a week or two, but until 30 January!! :-O You can imagine that with such short notice, I have to assume that ALL events after 20:00 next week will be cancelled.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Just in case you didn’t hear the news, this is it: From Monday, all hospitality (restaurants, bars, pubs, nightclubs) and all indoor events, concerts, cinema, theatre have to close\/end\/be finished by 20:00. Indoor events that take place earlier are told to limit the attendance to the lower of 50% of capacity or 1,000 people. Outdoor events have to be limited to the lower of 50% of venue capacity or 5,000 people. Religious services and business events are exempt. Weddings are allowed to continue after 20:00 but only with max 100 guests.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

So, if you had planned a Christmas event between Monday and Christmas Eve in a pub or restaurant, it is regrettably cancelled! If you thought you could meet friends between Christmas and New Year indoors in a “public venue”, it is cancelled. If you had plans for New Year’s Eve, they are cancelled if it was planned to happen in a “public” indoor venue. So this is a lockdown! If it looks like a lockdown, feels like a lockdown and sounds like a lockdown, then it probably is a lockdown!! UNTIL 30 January!!<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

So this weekend will be MAYHEM in the city centre again. Imagine, the last party weekend before February!!! Looking at some pictures from night clubs on social media, you can see some sense in restrictions, but then I saw neatly arranged, distanced chairs in a live music venue and I remember the option of people dining outdoors (heaters or blankets would help!) which all are forbidden again and somehow the words “unreasonable” and “unexplainable” come to mind again. Interestingly, there are NO limits on the number of people meeting in private indoor events. So what will happen then? Sure, house parties everywhere!!!<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\nFor the 65th year the moving crib is back at the St Martin Apostolate at Parnell Square. It is a whole basement floor of a crib installation and many other scenes from the bible and many of the figures and installation have moving parts. Definitely something for kids, but I enjoyed it as well when I visited the Moving Crib a few years ago. Opening hours are 11:00-18:00 every day of the week from 23 Nov-09 Jan (closed on Christmas Day, St. Stephen’s Day and New Year’s Day). \nTime is running out! Only until the end of 2021, entry to Dublin Castle is free for all visitors. You will be able to visit the State Apartments on a self-guided tour. There are currently no guided tours and therefore the Medieval Undercroft and Chapel Royal are not accessible. Opening hours are Mon-Sun & Bank Holidays: 09:45-17:45 (last admission 17:15). \nFrom 07 Dec to 27 March the Coach House in the gardens of Dublin Castle will be the home of a National Archives exhibition about “The Treaty 1921: Records from the Archives”. \nThe National Gallery is usually free anyway, but in current times you will have to book tickets to get access and you have to enter the building on the Merrion Street side.
