\nWhat now? The 22 October is gone and promises were broken and many hopes got disappointed once again. But with relatively high infection numbers, it was easy to justify the change of plan. We know, the promise of lifting all restrictions was just a carrot (and a trick) to keep us simpletons from rebelling, but it still raises the question if there ever can be a situation when ALL restrictions can be lifted. Maybe in May 2022 … or April 2025?<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

As every time before, when new rules were announced, you wonder if anybody in government or in the government departments has any sense of real life?<\/p>\n

Nightclubs are now allowed to re-open up to full capacity as long as “social” distancing can still be maintained. At least when you go to the toilet and when you queue, not so much however on a dance floor or in the normal night club area. When you drink, eat or dance you can be closer together and you don’t need a mask. When you speak or shout over the music while dancing, there is no risk. But when you do the same while standing still, then a mask has to be worn because you are at risk. (And keep in mind that “snogging” is only allowed with mask in a night club!!) And just to be clear, the distance for “social” distancing has been removed from the rules. So you HAVE to still socially distance yourself, but we are not too sure anymore how far.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

The prize winning sentence in the new guidelines for nightlife is “Specific distances for social distancing are being removed, however the sector should ensure that social distancing remains part of the overall infection prevention control measures especially for shared spaces e.g. restrooms, foyers, concourses etc.” Duuuhhh!!!<\/p>\n

If you have any questions, then the PDF here https:\/\/www.gov.ie\/en\/publication\/updated-guidelines-for-nightlife-and-live-entertainment-sector\/<\/a> will explain NOTHING in a consistent and logical way.<\/p>\n

The poor event organisers are meant to make sense of this mess. :-O I don’t envy them!<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

In general, all these regulations are an additional challenge for every business and that combined with\u00a0the fact that even to visit a nightclub now you will have to pre-book a ticket at least 24 hours in advance (it seems that this unwritten rule was not in place yet this weekend, but will be in place from next weekend) will mean that events will be more expensive and there will be less free events. That is not good news!<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\nThe National Gallery is usually free anyway, but in current times you will have to book tickets to get access and you have to enter the building on the Merrion Street side. \nUntil the end of 2021, entry to Dublin Castle is free for all visitors. You will be able to visit the State Apartments on a self-guided tour. There are currently no guided tours and therefore the Medieval Undercroft and Chapel Royal are not accessible. Opening hours are Mon-Sun & Bank Holidays: 09:45-17:45 (last admission 17:15).
