With so many events last week and lots of press releases that all announce some type of events, I totally forgot to ask you what you think of the rebranding of the Olympia Theatre. The Olympia is owned by MCD and MCD signed an 8-year contract with 3Ireland to rename the theatre to “3Olympia Theatre”. What do you think about that? Is that a good name? Or a silly name? Will you call the Olympia Theatre by its new name of will you stick to the old name?<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

What do you think in general about the commercialisation of names? Lansdowne Road Stadium Or Aviva Stadium? Grand Canal Theatre or Bord Gais Theatre? Point Theatre or 3Arena? What will be next? In 2018, Three Ireland signed a 55mio contract with Live Nation (who also own MCD) to keep the “3Arena” name for the Point Theatre for the next 10 years. 55mio!!?? And the 5 year extension to the original 10 year contract for naming Lansdowne Road Stadium “Aviva Stadium” did allegedly cost more than 40mio.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ Open House Dublin 2021<\/strong>
\nOpen House is organised by the Irish Architecture Foundation and it will return on 15-17 October. In normal times, over the weekend there are lots of interesting buildings open in Dublin where architects give a guided tour and explain what the original thinking was when the building was created.
\nI got a completely new perspective of Liberty Hall and Busaras after being on an Open House Tour. Other interesting buildings that I saw over the years: Old Terminal at Dublin airport, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Enterprise, Irish Lights Headquarters in Dun Laoghaire, Conference Centre Dublin, Four Courts, Criminal Courts of Justice and many more.
\nThis year I expect a LOT more pre-booking will have to be done and because the tickets will be released on 28 Sept, I need to tell you about Open House this week already. +++ National Gallery tickets available here<\/strong>
\nThe National Gallery is usually free anyway, but in current times you will have to book tickets to get access and you have to enter the building on the Merrion Street side. Tickets are available here: https:\/\/www.nationalgallery.ie\/visit-us\/book-your-ticket<\/a> The National Gallery also is running events again and because the events have limited number of spaces, they can book out relatively fast, at least before I can write about the events, so check out the events 1-2 weeks in advance here https:\/\/www.nationalgallery.ie\/whats-on<\/a> and then book tickets for them.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ Visit Dublin Castle for free<\/strong>
\nUntil the end of 2021, entry to Dublin Castle is free for all visitors. You will be able to visit the State Apartments on a self-guided tour. There are currently no guided tours and therefore the Medieval Undercroft and Chapel Royal are not accessible. Opening hours are Mon-Sun & Bank Holidays: 09:45-17:45 (last admission 17:15).
